  1. Yep, but even if he were available, I don’t think he would’ve seen time ahead of Cale, Cale was practicing very well since the Iowa game and it was planned to give him more time - just worked out that the smaller lineup was the most effective
  2. I think Gavin was headed to the portal prior to yesterday, but the game last night may have cemented it for both parties, as Cale’s play could’ve factored in. Fred was very complimentary of Cale after the game, I’m not saying Cale is going to start or be a major minute guy, but Fred clearly trusts him to be out there. I don’t think he trusts Gavin on the same level…
  3. Georgetown squeaks it out. They look much more athletic than WSU
  4. Gavin was not suited up but on the bench. Bolis as well. I’m so happy for Cale. The moment wasn’t too big for him and he gave us some very solid minutes, even game changing with his fast break passes and steals. Had a nice box out in the second half that won’t show up on the stats but he just does the right things.
  5. What a strange, yet effective lineup. Cale at the stretch 5. Does the little things that go unnoticed and tonight they were noticed
  6. Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but “angry old man” has never been how I think of when it comes to Coach Osborne.
  7. I don’t like Ashworth at all but man I would’ve traded him for Rollie and Uhlis and a minivan of his wife’s choice
  8. I hate Creighton but man Mac is schooling Pat right now - UL looks lost
  9. I agree. Berke showed a flash or two at the beginning of the year. His shooting is really inconsistent- isn’t super strong with the ball, if he’s our starting 4 or 5 next year I think we are in trouble. Just give me Julian Reese and Dawson Garcia.
  10. Watching the big ten tourney, Grant Hill commented several times how the Big Ten is a Big Man’s league. This was during the Michigan vs Maryland game - both teams had a pair of really talented big men. I know that we all know this, but I really hope in addition to a capable scoring point guard, we grab at least one, but better, two physical big men that can rebound and score. If Dawson Garcia had a Covid year I’d happily take him next to Mast and Berke
  11. Kevin Van Dam and Skeet Reese haven’t broken my heart like Nebrasketball, but your point is well received
  12. Sounds like the players, especially the seniors, want to continue the season and are motivated to make a run. I hope they do. Some good names in this field. I like it.
  13. Will not see an official publication of NIL payouts per player and total spend by team. And no coach is going to come out and say the number. Other schools would jump all over that in recruiting, using that info to their advantage. I know Robin has said the total NIL was around 2.5 million. I believe it was slightly below that, but not by too much. I do know we got an absolute steal with Brice in comparison to his stats, impact, and first team all conference selection
  14. Chucky’s camp was asking more than what we paid Brice and Juwan combined so that puts things in perspective.
  15. Loesner brings the energy. Fred’s demeanor is calm and steady, except when it’s not. Just ask the whiteboards
  16. I think Janowski would’ve helped us this year. To what extent? Not sure.
  17. Robin Washut has stated in writing our basketball NIL was around 2.3-2.5 million. I believe it’s closer to 2.3 - but it should rise w rev share and hopefully a commitment from the peers that be to designate more to be competitive. Even an extra million will go a long ways, most rotational guys are easily commanding north of 250k per year. Let’s just say Nebraska got an absolute STEAL this year on Brice Williams.
  18. Your point is well taken basketballjones. I agree. But I also think increased NIL would’ve given us better players, a scoring and shooting competent point guard vs Rollie and Uhlis. Morgan is a good kid but is just not a tough rebounder. Our big men collectively this year were soft. Trade out Braxton or Morgan for a Queen or Julian Reese and our makeup of our team changes quite a bit.
  19. I have a friend in the inner circle - if he is accurate, Pop, Kalk, and Ashworth alone got way more than our entire team
  20. Fit does play a factor for sure. One player turned down more money elsewhere to come to DONU this year, so it’s not always about the top bid
  21. I’ve always said that we have the facilities, fan support, amazing support staff, and coaching. But we need more money to compete. Numerous targets spent their last season other than Lincoln because of what they wanted NIL wise. Rocco from Notre Dame was a seven figure guy, same with a couple of the receivers that we landed this year. Braden Smith level is 1.8 million. What would a guy like Josh Dix command? Would we pay it?
  22. I forgot to mention that one head coach said they pay 90% of their NIL pool to the top 8 players. Then the other 10% is allocated to the remaining guys. Our NIL pool this past season was closer to 2 than 3, so it really puts in perspective what Coach had to work with and why we didn’t land certain guys who just needed more NIL. I think another thing is this: Gone are the days when you need an ace recruiter. Don’t get me wrong, you need guys who can evaluate talent and potential and fit - and you need personable assistants who connect well. But you don’t need to have some slick salesmen, NIL puts a lot of programs on equal footing to some degree. The facilities and coaches and development also play into it
  23. Just got done reading an article written by Jamie Shaw. its behind a paywall on a different site, so I will recap: He interviewed several power conference head coaches to get more insight into the true NIL cost of a basketball roster. "In this portal, I think you'll need a minimum of $4.5 million," a coach in the ACC said. "And that's if you do a hell of a job evaluating." After talking for a little bit, that same coach added, "To be safe, it'll be about $6 million to be a top-25 team." The author confirms that range was consistent across the board A current SEC coach said “You will need 4-5 million if you want to be in the top 25” A Big 12 coach said “it will be no less than 5 million to be in the top 25” Even with revenue sharing helping out - a current ACC coach said “we will be between 6-7 million to be able to compete” of course, there are outliers as well. Cooper Flagg is near 3.5million alone, and Braden Smith, a name most Husker fans are familiar with, is at 1.8million by himself. So, when Husker fans say we need more NIL, based on the info in this article, yes, yes we absolutely do! In hindsight, we got absolute steals in Gary and Brice, who’s total NIL for both of them is less than what Braden is getting alone. So, we either get the expensive, bug named transfers that will be seven figures, or hope to find another Mast from a non power conference and hope they seamlessly transition to the big ten. Nelson from Alabama is an example - but he may be the outlier. Our current QB gets more in NIL than our entire basketball roster, if that puts anything in perspective
