I know this is highly unlikely, but I think if Tanner did want to live it up one more year on campus and could get a waiver and you are the new coach he is automatically one of the scholarships you hand out. Dude showed me he can bang and knows his role. I will take one more year of that. To add I'll take him and a year older Brady as our bigs next year. All day.

Tim Miles out as Nebraska Basketball coach
cornfed24-7 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Count me in the "I am a big fan of Miles" fan club. With all the college corruption stuff going on... I also think the outside perception of what he accomplished here is greater than the inside Nebraska perception. I think he takes a year off and we see him next next season coaching. I think low end power 5. I sure hope he dabbles in broadcasting his year off cause I'd like to check him out. -
I sure as hell hope this is what hindsight shows. It does fit the narrative of Moos being a folksy cattle rancher good guy the press kinda played up when he was hired.

These are the approximate values of the last 3 1st round draft picks for 2018. He'd be leaving about 3.2 million on the table if he is a late 1st round pick. I posted a lot of reasons in this thread why Roby could stay. What I really believe though is he is gone. Gotta take the money young man. 28 $1,025,30 $1,076,600 $1,127,800 29 $1,017,800 $1,068,700 $1,119,600 30 $1,010,500 $1,061,000 $1,111,600

I also think another year in college would help him get better able to use his body more effectively. He has DRAMATICALLY changed his body since he got here. In the grand scheme of things 3 years is too short, even for athletes, too understand and/or know how to use his body at 100%. And he absolutely needs this knowledge if he wants to make it in the NBA. I also think it will be much harder to aquire that knoweledge in the NBA. Roby at times still looks like a baby deer that is putting it together. The most athletic jacked baby deer ever but still. His best bet to acquire that knowledge is next year in college. 21 is still a baby as far as the human body goes. He looks to me like he could still fill out. He could play HIGH above the rim and DOMINATE nearly all the time if can hone that. Stephen A. Smith has a saying he likes to use a lot when he talks about dudes in the NBA. He says "That dude ain't got no punk in him" And the point of all of this is I think Roby needs to get him some of that and next year in college will be his best chance. By Big Ten play he is dominating. Its a Cinderella season. First tourney win. Roby is a lottery pick. Come guys. Jump on this ride. It'll be a blast ?

I have no idea if this is true or not but I suspect it is from reading years of his articles. Sipple is a mouth piece for the university is the consensus. So if he is actually putting his name to an article with this info I am not concerned. Best I've got .

The NBA does not care 1 lick what the overall team record would be. Unless the player is a lottery pick those teams try to project ceiling. Can they fill a role. Roby would be 22. So if he comes back and would have been a low first round pick high second round pick he can literally look up what his contract would be. His decision is, as far as monetary value for his first contract, will one more year in college increase his stock enough to mitigate the risk of injury? I think yes. I think he can. Assuming no injury he can actually put a number value to this scenario.
-
Ergo his draft stock increases. Its the amount it increases that is the decision here.
-
I think the exact same thing. If he had to go out knowing in the non conference that was his role...I think he meets expectations.
-
Percentages will be ski high when he's dunking over everyone ?
-
But man I could see him doing that and a little more next year. If I am the new coach I run the offense through him early and often in the early season. Sink or swim him. Hold his britches to the fire. It is your responsibility to get 18 and 8 most nights son. I think he responds and dominates ?
-
I mean if he gets this one right too he kind of has be right ?!?
-
Aw more nuanced then I read into it. I should know better ?

Look, I'm the biggest Miles cheerleader there is. I wanted him to win bad. I also get there is a human element to this that completely sucks. There is also a fan element that can can be apart from that. They don't have to be mutually exclusive. I'm excited. There's promise of a new begining. Banners in the rafters. NCAA tourney wins. Hope springs eternal. We can be excited for the future and feel horrible for all the family's and people this affects all at the same time ?
-
My guess is he'd do a hell of a job there. He could keep his transfer model in recruiting and supplement it a lot easier with the solid guys he did't get here. Actually develop a bench. Its a hop, skip, and a jump from Southern California. There are lots of people (myself included) that absolutely would not leave the area for absolutely anything. But might be able to be talked into Vegas for a few years?. He might even be able to sweat talk a blue chipper or two. A hell of a lot easier sell than Nebraska if you ask me (Don't get up in arms I spent 30 years in and around Lincoln)
-
This is what I believe too. It's the most likely scenario. And for the good of my mental health I am refusing to believe its gross incompitance ?
-
No. But what I do think it does is possibly change who the next guy may or may not be. The consensus on this board seems to be a coach with experience that has won. There aren't a whole lot of people that fit that criteria. And the ones that do usually have choices. And one of the factors will always be "Who's my boss going to be and do I want to work for that person?" And its my belief this whole situation makes the answer to that question much more likely a negative check when a candidate weighs if they take this job.
-
But that's my whole point. He doesn't need cover. We all know what this is. What cover do you need if you have all your ducks in a row.
-
Agreed but my confidence in him is in free fall. It's not like everyone didn't know what this season was...Put up or shut up so to speak. And now somehow making the NIT is a factor. Really? I mean come on.
-
I agree. But this statement has me feeling he (A) doesn't have someone in place and (B) is now scrambling to figure something out.
-
I find it hard to believe the masses put any weight into making the NIT as a good thing.
