  1. Nah. Gives me hope in this hopeless situation. Like I said I know little outside of the Huskers in college basketball. I have started my Google search on Craig Smith because I see his name on here from time to time and obviously the past between us and him. Next I am going to Google "Mid Major College Basketball Coach buyouts" because I don't think "Hot Mid Major College Basketball Coach" is going to get me the query I want. Then I'm going to do the same for assistant coaches. Finally I think the craziest thing is you believe this will be allowed to continue for 2 years if a contract renegotion doesn't materialize.
  2. The threshold has been reached for me. I don't pay attention to much in college basketball outside my Huskers. And we could be hashing out why/what/who/how this thing went off the rails for a while. I now believe there is a chance Hoiberg is not the coach next year. I honestly would like to know who you all think of current coaches we have a chance to get? Who you'd like? Or Who would we actually end up with as our next coach? Just looking to discuss a different topic instead of our current situation. Maybe once we get a consensus of names Norm could do another poll
  3. Let me also add had the metric been the old metric we still would have probably only made it in by the skin of our teeth and quite possibly been in a play in game.
  4. I agree. The narrative had been cast long before the final week. I too at no point during the final week thought they were going to be selected. Every reporter did not feel that way, but they did report what was probably going happen based on the new metric that was being used for the first time that year. Again, revisionist history.
  5. Nope. I agree Miles hit his ceiling and he needed to go. But I will never agree we weren't screwed that year. And I think people that want to argue he should have been let go have more than enough points in their arsenal than needing to use the revisionist history they are using for that season.
  6. It wasn't though. Until I die I refuse to let this narrative live It was a royal screw job not getting selected for the tournament. I believe it was the first year the NCAA change the metric to decide invites. No BIGTEN team EVER before had been left out of the tournament with a conference record/finish we had. Was it down a bit sure. We still should have been in. Also, Lunardi is a doche.
  7. Its rudimentary for sure. I chuckle at the "saved" because how is it saved when its salary being paid to him, but I digress. Point is the number isn't actually 18.5M. Much less. And heck the athletic dept may be in a spot here they just need to eat the loss right now for whatever reason. Its plausible. I just read the Shatel article and I think Its an actual possibility Trev walks into Hoibergs office at the end of season and is like "Fred! My friend! I got a deal for you. 10M and your done." Hoiberg, "Oh thank God Trev. Deal." It could happen
  8. Really its not hard at all. Yes if he is fired this year the number is 18.5M. But thats a sunk cost. That's not what we need to measure. Let's set aside the negotiated contract restructuring that may or may not happen and deal with "knowns". For this purpose what needs to be measured is 3.5M. If Hoiberg stays and is fired next year at a buyout of 15M the University "saves" 3.5M. Is the 3.5M that is "saved" offset by the amount of lost revenue in ticket sales long term damage to the program. I would argue yes which is why I think Trevs hand may be forced if a renegotiated contract can't be reached.
  9. I totally spaced off there was a game today. I realized when I came on here and saw the after game thread. Thats nuts. I am not your average. I don't think many of the people who visit this forum are. If we're choosing not to watch and/or spacing off there is even a game its bad. Really bad.
  10. If I ever make a career change where I ned an agent to negotiate for me I'd probably go to some firm hire some guy or girl at random because how does one even hire an agent? Maybe I'd get lucky and land a sweet gig. But let's be real here. Theres a good chance I'd crap the bed because I work in health care not some field where one needs an agent. Point is if I did work in such a field, and when I did crap the bed, I'm definitely hiring you as my next agent to talk me up.
  11. I know nothing of the situation, but apparently the internet believes he drank, spent gobs of someone else's cash, and had a generally good time while he was in Nebraska. "Nebraskans! Great F#@$ing Hosts!" new tourism idea I had.
  12. I do not envy the position Trev is in.
  13. It HAS to be attempted.
  14. I just don't buy this logic yet. And this isn't directed at you. I just see this posted a lot as the barrier to firing Hoiberg. There seems to be an assumption that is being look at as fact. And that assumption is Hoiberg is going to renegotiate his contract. That actual fact is he has a contract. He gets 18 and some change million if he's fired this year. Next Year 15 mil. Year after 12ish. 18 mil is not being saved If he's not fired this year. 3 million is. Then 6 million. Then 9. Hoiberg can't be oblivious to the situation. At this point it looks like it would take a miracle to turn this around even if he is given every resource he could ever want. I just don't see why everyone is positive this renegotiated contract is coming. ***Looks like a lot of us had the same thought as I was typing this
  15. My hope is because the new guy is filling out his staff.
  16. So coaching ability is a constant that never changes? One can never get better or worse apparently. Amazing!
  17. I agreed with your entire post, but want to highlight this sentence because this is what I would have chose if it was an option. Since we had to pick though I went with Coaching. Lazy play, bad shots, poor spacing, quitter mentality, not calling timeouts appropriately (or at all), seemingly no consequences for continual questionable decisions, your super senior player calling you out on the radio, etc.
  18. Haven't voted yet because I am honestly struggling to determine which of those three is the worst.
  19. I only wish it was Mexico instead of Honduras.
