uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 9, Ed 8 - South Dakota

tough but typical filler game. just take the W, be glad McVeigh finally did something, and get ready for the last tough stretch here. We've lost our share of these games the last few years, so I'll just take the win and move forward. But if we don't play anything but our absolute best, the Jays are going to obliterate this team. -
White's definitely going to be the difference for this squad this season. I agree with student: I think only UCLA beats us with him, and that game becomes really close. But he's gone. And at least the kids that are here want to be here, and they get along better. That probably means zero to fans, but it's a good thing for the players and staff. White's never going NBA--not with his ridiculous skill limitations--so you'll get the last laugh.

Nebraska (4-2) vs. Clemson (3-2) Game Thread
tcp replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If that's what you're expecting, then you're right. I'm not. I'm seeing a team whose likely ceiling is a borderline NIT bid--not because they can't play better, but because they'll be too inconsistent to beat enough teams in a tough conference. I tend to focus on what makes a team better in terms other than wins-losses and postseason bids. Those are good, but these guys have more fundamental issues to address first. -

this one hurts. But hopefully it just motivates these kids to keep working as hard as they can and get better. if we can just get one more player to emerge as a real threat in the next two months, this is a salvageable season. this is a nasty stretch to have for a young team like this. but they're at least proving competitive, They'll be pretty tested going into the conference, and hopefully we'll get those two players we need to emerge by then. -

so we're still searching for players #4-?. Clemson pulling away now, but an opportunity blowing by. Young teams. Sigh. -

14-5 on fouls. sheesh. grim. -
it's fine to have that expectation, and to be disappointed, and then to grouse unhappily. that's the fun part of being a fan. You can be as reasonable or unreasonable as you wish. Two years ago we were grousing about the lack of big men and a front court. that's been pretty seriously addressed. Can he get one break? White was supposed to be on the team this season. he quit late in the process. No coach can control that. No doubt his loss is going to hurt from outside, but hopefully someone else steps up. I mean, almost no one familiar with the NU situation seriously though this wasn't a full blown rebuild and that it might take as long as 7 years. I expected a 7 year project, at least. And Miles is still in it with this cohort.

Gill should hold the pole position for a starting spot as he slowly catches up. We'll need him. McVeigh had a miserable tournament, but I've been watching this stuff long enough to have seen much better players have worse tourneys. Let's just see how these guys bounce back (or not) after getting back into a normal rhythm. The team I'm seeing so far is likely not to have a steady starting rotation for large chunks of this season. I think there's going to be a lot of streaky play.
-
Nothing, really. We're a young team trying to find it's primary rotation for a difficult learning season. There's nothing to do but let this extended audition to occur and hope that a couple of the young 'ens click and are able to get solid, reasonably consistent productivity out of their minutes. We've got 3 players I'm comfortable with right now. But there's more than enough talent to add 3 or 4 more to that mix this season, so we'll just how it goes. Tourneys on the road are awful places to make long term judgments about anything.

No argument from me. for sure. And I think 7 deep is a bit generous at the moment. I hope we get to that point by the time conference starts, or we're going to have one very exhausted starting rotation. But if this is going to be a close but no cigar kind of year--which is basically what people were expecting from us going in--then yeah, let's work on the highest upside guys first. I still have hope for this team as far as competing for an NIT spot. I think they have the talent to do it. But they're going to have to learn fast. And this schedule is not favorable to a young, learning team.

Crappy ending to a weekend with so much possibility. It's become an old song at NU, and it appears we're still going to be singing it. -
well, we've pretty much concluded that this team right now is a whopping 3 deep. Until we find that other two--and also don't take critical games off because our heads are still at Disneyland--we're going to have some problems with solid teams. Disappointing showing today, which is a shame. This tourney held much more potential. Oh well, the rpi leaves fairly okay, and that's at least a decent consolation prize.

these guys are going to regret this performance down the road. oh well. young teams frequently learn all the hard lessons. and this will be a hard one for them to learn. You have to show up, empty gym or not. And this schedule ain't gonna get any easier. -

well, get out with a lead, so that's good. hopefully timmeh has a nice light up speech for the half. these guys need to understand how big this game is for them.
