Keeping up with the offers/visits

I don't want to sound like a broken record (actually, I don't care if I do) but one way you could moderate this lack of roster continuity in the age of free transfers and the portal is to give everyone 5 years of playing eligibility. If they get one free, no-sit transfer and they use it after 2 years, the next place gets to have them for, say, 3 years. Which is enough time to get to know the player, get behind them, watch them develop, etc. Like Derrick Walker. -

OK, so now we get to see if he's a good son who honors his father and his mother or if he's whipped. -
Whoa. Has that ever been done?

10:15 a.m. every Wednesday morning is just testing for Chucky Watch.

Norm is JUST a little faster.

So. Just a little bit of basketball strategy talk here. If you're going to score all of your points in the first 30 minutes, you should probably give yourself more than an 8 point buffer over your opponent. Off Wisconsin. On North Texas Mean Green. Will Chucky now enter the portal?

I think what he was trying to say here was they all needed to stay on the same plantation. -

Three first-time Final Four participants for the first time since like 1970. The second highest average seed in the Final Four in NCAA tournament history. First time ever that there wasn't a single #1 seed remaining after the Sweet 16. I could go on. This season has been marked by parity. And, just on a hunch, I looked at San Diego State's roster. Know what I found? Four of their rotation players, including their overall leading scorer, have played five seasons of college basketball. Some of them might be 6th year players, I don't know. But four of them have played five seasons. I said it before and I'm repeating it now: Five seasons of playing eligibility is the best equalizer to offset against the teams who get all the one-and-done talent. We'll have another couple of years of this before it filters all the way through. But I think the NCAA should make this the rule. Give players six years to play five. Just one extra season. It will improve the game. It will tend to level the playing field between the recruiting haves and have nots. It will probably result in some greater roster stability, which the fans want (e.g. we get 3 seasons with Derrick Walker after he transferred from Tennessee.) And it would reflect the reality that college tends to be a 5 year gig these days. I would love to see this happen. Can anyone think of any downside?

Creighton players have been schooled on how to grab and pull in ways that aren't easy to see. They had to go to the video to nail Kalkbrenner for a Flagrant 1. But, watching the replays, you saw them doing stuff like this all game long. -

I just think about how they cheered when Tim Miles got ejected in our last NCAA tourney appearance and I'm just happy they lost in the way they lost. Ef them. It was the right call. -

When that time comes, I will still hate Creighton. -
Nard got beat off the dribble and grabbed his defensive assignment as the guy was going up for a shot. It would have been wrong to not call it just because time was running down. You don't want the ref to call that? Then move your feet and stay in front of your man.

Is anyone else who is watching this tournament struck by how profoundly bad Big Ten officiating is in comparison?

This has probably been covered somewhere, but the combined total of all the seeds in the Elite 8 were as follows: South regional: 11 (5 vs. 6) East regional: 12 (3 vs. 9) Midwest regional: 7 (2 vs. 5) West regional: 7 (3 vs. 4) We already have a 4 seed and a 9 seed in the Final 4. And, if Miami wins today, the national champion will be no better than a 4 seed. This year shouldn't count. Whoever winds up holding the trophy, it should go down in the record books with an asterisk.

You say this again, and I'm going to rip the nuts out of your snickers bar. Do NOT make me get violent with you. THAT team is NOT going to win the national championship. Don't even say it. -

I better get my exorcism going.
Norm Peterson replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I mean, that's close enough. And I'm legit doing an exorcism on it. To me, the Sallie situation is the quintessential Nebrasketball curse example. Probably the most sought after, highest-rated recruit we'd had in a decade, maybe? And he's putting out on social media encouraging comments like "we're going to turn this shit around." And we're all like, yeah, finally we have a potential difference maker. And then, all of a sudden, the NCAA decides to get tough on prep school kids with OUR guy. I mean, lowly Nebraska. Just let us have our recruit, please. And they want more than just his test scores; they want to see copies of his homework. For real? I mean, who keeps that stuff? But it didn't stop there. NCAA drags their feet on approval (they might have just said no, and we'd have moved on, probably), but instead they drag their feet until we're in a spot where, if we don't get him started taking classes, he won't be in school and won't be able to play. So, we admit him. And he starts taking classes. And then the Big 12 comes in and says, guys, sorry, but if you admit someone before they're cleared for eligibility, we have this little provision under Rule 42, Section 27(q)(4)(viii) subparagraph 3(b) that says if you admit him before he's cleared for eligibility, the player is *permanently* ineligible to play for that school. And it was like WHYYYYYY? Why couldn't you people just let us enjoy this one little victory FFS? What did we ever do to you? And people on the board at the time will remember that this was something that really bothered me for a long time. I mean, I practically couldn't say the guy's name for a year. And now I have something with his name on it that might have belonged to him had he ever actually been cleared to play. And I'm going to do what any sensible person would do in my situation: I'm going to perform a fricking exorcism on it. I'm going to drive out whatever demon has haunted this program for the last couple of decades. And if we win a game in the dance in the next couple of years, the only thanks I'll ask is that you raise a glass and toast to me in your victory parties after the game. Deal? -
NCAA Tournament Needs (Building a Team)
Norm Peterson replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
To be fair, CJ is not without his own merits. He had a down year this year, but otherwise, he's been a fairly solid perimeter shooter over the course of his career. He'll never blow your mind with his athleticism, but he has a knack for disguising that weakness as much as possible. Reminds me a bit of Ryan Anderson, just not nearly as good of a shooter.
