  1. If Southern Miss fires Doc Sadler this year, they'd be making a huge mistake. He inherited a lot bigger mess from cheater Donnie Tyndall than most people realize. They're still under scholarship limits until '20-21. Doc's program has shown improvement every season. And he's done it clean. This year, they reached 20 wins and finished 2nd in their conference and they're on their way to the CBI. Why in the actual heck would Southern Miss let Doc go?
  2. I'll tell you this: Tim is NOT going to be unemployed next season unless he chooses to be.
  3. Because if you're going to keep him, he needs to know and so do our recruits and potential recruits. If you have someone else lined up already, THEY need to have some time to hit the recruiting trail. There's a difference between him finishing out the season vs. coaching in the post-season. We're in some uncharted territory, here, because as fas as I'm aware we haven't fired a coach who made a post-season tournament in the history of the program.
  4. If Moos retains Miles, that will send the absolute worst possible message about the status of the Husker basketball program and the leadership of Moos: "I don't really want you, but I couldn't find anyone better (and believe me I tried), so I'm stuck with you. For now. But, go out there and give it the ol' college try, killer. You have my full partial lukewarm fleeting support."
  5. Boy, that's a comforting observation. Woohoo! Let's hire a guy who has zero personal relationships with people connected to high level prospects.
  6. We can't. We just absolutely cannot do this. If this is Moos's plan, it isn't a plan. It's more gutless than his non-announcement announcement. You either commit to Miles and say he has your FULL support (which Moos did NOT do) OR you commit to finding a new guy. It is NOT good for the long-term health of the program to have a coach coaching for his job and wondering about his status at the end of every season. Fish or cut bait. One or the other. Don't try to play some hedging kind of bullshit game for the 4th year in a row.
  7. If you're going to fire the guy, I don't see what good it does to wait. And your Machiavellian proposal to get some more work out of a guy you're intending to fire would seem beneath the dignity of the University. It's like if you were a restaurant and were going to fire your kitchen manager and decided, no, let's wait until AFTER he cleans out the grease trap and THEN fire him.
  8. Ruck, thanks for saving me the trouble of trying to look up who you were. By the way, Ruck, you're either NOT the guy I'm talking about OR you've deleted a number of your prior posts. Thanks for also reminding us why we didn't miss you when you ran away all those years ago.
  9. How many of these guys do Big Ten games? Like all of them?
  10. Lamont Simpson. Totally agree on this one. Whenever I see him on the floor at PBA, my first thought is, "oh no, not him again." Expect a lot of inconsistent whistles from one half to the next.
  11. Back when Miles was in his first couple of years here, there was someone who joined the board who claimed to have some sort of connection, like a friend of Miles' family from South Dakota or something, who claimed to know that Miles was interested in various potential job openings and expected people around here to sort of kiss his ass about all the hot, inside info he could potentially provide. No one bit on the invitation (so to speak.) The guy got all huffy about the fact he wasn't being treated like the hotshot he expected to be treated like, and he disappeared. I don't think anyone misses him. Or his inside scoops.
  12. If Miles was going to be retained, Moos would have said so in his announcement 45 minutes after our B1G tourney loss to Wisconsin.
  13. That's the one. Built like a tank.
  14. This is a very excellent point. The PROGRAM cannot afford to wait for the NIT to play out. If Moos is going to retain Miles, he needs to announce that forthwith so that Miles can continue recruiting efforts. Who is going to listen to an offer from a lame duck coach? Nobody, that's who. If Moos is going to can Miles (in which event he hopefully has a replacement already lined up) THAT GUY is going to need to be installed quickly so that HE can get busy on the recruiting trail -- including re-recruiting the guys Miles signed last fall. This is fish-or-cut-bait time. Time is of the essence. Moos needs to show some decisive leadership and make the call one way or the other.
  15. So I took advantage of the time between NCAA selection and NIT announcement to get my smoker all cleaned up. Firepot vacuumed out; cooking grids gleaming; everything ready to roll. Now, just need some meat to smoke. Thinking brining some spatchcock chickens for next weekend. Or maybe some pork butt.
  16. I knew if anyone could fill in the gaps in my memory on this one, you'd be able to do it. Thanks for the correction. I had the right state, at least.
  17. Nee wasn't horrible but he had some significant limitations, both personally and professionally. Mike Montgomery was a better coach, IMO, and probably a better ambassador for his program. You have to wonder where we might be today if the Bobfather had told Nee to pound sand after he initially rejected us and had hired Montgomery instead.
  18. Actually, Mike Montgomery went after us. Devaney wasn't interested and hired Danny Nee instead. And, as I recall, Nee made it clear we weren't his first option and he slow-played us to see if he could get an offer from, I believe, Kansas State. But that job went to Lon Kruger and Devaney held the offer for Nee even though Montgomery actually wanted the job as his first pick. That might have been the most unfortunate hiring decision of the Devaney era.
  19. That's an entire calendar year, people.
  20. I am also in this camp. It took the guys a while to adjust to not having him. They eventually figured out how to win again, but that was a process that was going to take some time.
  21. The 5 losses in Cope's last 7 games (if you include just over half a game against Ohio State, in which we were tied at the time he went down and lost by 10): loss by 2 @Maryland; loss by 9 @ #25 Iowa; loss by 6 against #6 MSU; loss by 7 @ Rutgers; loss by 10 against Ohio State, a game in which we were tied when Cope went down.
