Our defense has a long ways to go, which is a little perplexing as it was our backbone from last year and this is largely the same roster. Not sure if we are trying some different things in these bad non-con games or what? Seems that Molinari is very involved on the sideline when we are on the defensive end, so it makes me think maybe we are trying to implement some of his philosophies. Hate to say it, but Moses Abraham is really bad. I don't see him contributing much at all this year, even on the defensive end or rebounding the ball. Doesn't have any sort of basketball IQ and looks largely uncoordinated. -
Not sure how good Memphis is this year, but Wichita St. putting a whooping on them up 23 with a couple of minutes to play. Game is being played in Sioux Falls.

Hawaii lost to High Point 62-54. Hopefully we take care of business against them, they are really down this year.

Well, part of it is definitely the fact that our team is lacking on quality big men this year. It's a natural thought process to wonder about Agau..Is Agau really considered a "big"? I don't view Agau as any more than a small forward and don't think he would provide our team with anything more than David Rivers brings to the table. That's not a knock on Rivers, it's just that some seem to believe that Agau is this difference maker type player. Sure, he might be nice to have on the roster, but I don't think it would be a slam dunk that he'd see the floor in a starter's minutes role for this team we have now. He most certainly is a big. 6'8 with a huge wing span. Would most likely be a 4 but could also play the 5 with a smaller lineup.

Is he still slowed by the hernia injury from July...or something new? Yes, it's the hernia injury that he was slow coming back from. I know Harrell will most likely be gone to the pro's after this season, but Louisville is stacked in the front court. I just don't see it happening for Akoy out there. Now the question is if Nebraska would still be interested and if he has developed enough or still has enough potential to be a B1G level player?

Injury slowed him up in preseason and now does not appear to be in Louisville's rotation. We still have that one open scholly, just throwing that out there.

Shavon, Kale, and the reliability of Rivals 150
Timmy replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Steph Curry and Kenneth Faried also outplayed their Rivals Ranking. I agree but I see Russell as the biggest in the last 10 years. Curry played 3 years in college and Faried played 4 years. Westbrook was so good as a freshman, a year removed from high school, that he went 4th overall in the draft. I dont see how you could miss out on a talent that good. FWIW, Scout had Westbrook at 66 national ranking and a 4 star in their final ranking. Quite a bit better than Rivals. Isn't Rivals largely considered the worst of the basketball recruiting sites? I know they are usually considered the best for football, but I thought Scout and ESPN fare much better in terms of bball. I maybe wrong. -
It all comes down to draft projection...if he's not projected to go high enough he'll come back for another year. But how much does he gain from coming back another year. Lets say he is going to be a late 2nd rounder coming off of 2015. Given his age and skill sets, does one actually believe anything he did in 2015/16 would move him that high up the draft boards? I don't. I just don't see his draft value increasing by coming back for his Senior season. So, even though he may not be drafted very high out of this year, it would make sense for him to leave with degree in hand so he can start making money professionally.

So we are probably a bit lower due to our 2012-13 season as well as overall poor performance over the last five years? -
Just sizing him up in person? No profile on ESPN or 247. Wonder if offers listed on Rivals are legit. He plays for Sunrise Academy so certainly not for lack of exposure. Something doesn't seem to add up here.

Tarin much better offensively than I imagined. They always talked about him as a facilitator and his scoring averages weren't the greatest in HS due to the team he played for. Shavon was by far our best player during this practice. Thought Terran really struggled, missed almost all of his shots in the live drills they did. Pitchford did work against Moses in the post work. Moses, man the kid is really bad offensively but looked good rebounding the ball. Benny and Rivers doing what they do. Roles will be the same as last year. Thought Rivers looked really out of shape and always had hands over head. Webster jump shot definitely improved. Overall looked like a much more confident player. Fuller can shoot but game is pretty limited to that at this point. White, could tell he is still feeling his way with the team. Felt like he was a little timid on offense and I'm guessing that is due to his newness.

Not sure if he is in the video above, the pictures I've seen of him he wears 42. Michael has a younger brother named Matthew who is 6'8 as an 8th grader and is already suiting up for the Varsity squad. He is apparently every bit of a D1 prospect if not more than Michael. It sounds like both these kids can stroke the basketball but need to work on their strength and inside game to become complete players. It will be a tough pull, Pitino has already offered and has show a lot of personal interest in Michael.

Gabe Levine, who transferred from Loyola Marymount to Marquette after a standout freshman season, has now announced that he is transferring from Marquette. Pretty bizarre, as he just transferred there this semester and was sitting out this year. Would be a nice option for us, but I imagine he will probably head to one of his other finalist schools - Notre Dame or Northwestern.

I thought Barnes was a Husker fan? He used to post on some boards I was apart of. Does he not want his guys going to NU for some reason? -
You are actually wrong on the Iowa comment. They were seeded just about right based off performance and overall resume. Their selection had nothing to do with them hovering around the top 25. As Gumby pointed out, SMU is case in point as well. Everyone had them in their tourney field because a team close to the top 25 in rankings had to be in, right? Wrong, SMU's resume was not all that good when you compared to the other bubble teams and they were rightfully left out.
