basketballjones Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Fact - if Diugherty was 2" taller and not from Nebraska he'd be higher ranked than Akoy, WITHOUT A DOUBT. Has anyone seen him play? How does UNO not recruit this kid but they recruit Nick Billingsley? Amazing... Dougherty is 6'6", 6'7", absolute freak athlete, lefty, handles it good enough. Major miss by the area schools. Also, Lyle Hexom from Omaha South is a stud - what's the story there? 6'8", freak, can face-up, decent stroke, coordinated. Needs some meat on his bones but he's a player. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 If his name were Brad Daugherty he'd be a lot better. Quote
bobcat402 Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 what do you think of dougherty of being a walk on at nebraska? Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Most talented kids like that, unless its their dream to play for a certain school, end up going to a D2 school since they get their school paid for or a juco to get better looks. The juco I went to had 2 players that probably fall in the same category as Brett. Good, lengthy players with some skills. They were tweeners or lacked something else. Both went there to get better offers. One was determined to play D-1 and after his sophomore year got a walk-on spot at Washington. The other settled on a D-2 offer. It really depends on the kids family really if they can help foot the bill, or if the kid wants to be a starter or minimal role player. Lots of factors come into play, much more than in football. In football you see walk-ons getting a greater chance where outside of nebraska, most BCS schools' walk-ons are practice players that get in when they play wofford or NE LSU St A&M tech. Quote
imnothipp Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 I've seen Dougherty and thought he was a possible D1 guy for sure. Very fundamentally sound. Not sure about being ranked higher then Akoy though. Watched hexom tonight, he struggled most of the game. Had a hard time catching the ball. The Harkin kid was pretty good tonight I thought. Centrals defense is so so good. Never seen anyone play defense like they do. Really fun to watch. Quote
basketballjones Posted January 4, 2013 Author Report Posted January 4, 2013 You're correct, imnothipp, I am probably exaggerating a bit -- but Dougherty is a stud. It's a shame he's not the size of a true 4 man or 5 man or else he'd be getting big time looks. I'm also probably compensating for not getting Akoy. Man... Can you imagine our squad next year with Akoy, our transfers, Gesell, Gallegos, Shields, Rivers, et al... Recruiting misses really hurt for a long time! Quote
