They announced on the news last night that Chatrice White has been selected for the McDonald's AA game.  Congrats to her.  One of only two players committed to the Big 10 off that list.  And, of course, they showed some highlights of her playing.

No sour grapes, but I honestly was not tremendously impressed.  She did a few nice things in the few minutes of clips -- which is obviously not a lot and I'm not saying it is -- but she does not look like anywhere near the player that Jess Shepard is.

Anyone who's watched the two of them more extensively able to comment on that observation?

What I saw of Chatrice in that admittedly short clip was a girl with some skills but who looks like she plays a little soft, a little too finesse.  One clip, she starts with a nice fake left, drop step right, but instead of using her frame and size and going up strong, she brings the ball low and does some sort of underhanded flip thing, turning herself from a 6'3" center into a 5'3" center.

The rest of it was pretty pedestrian:  wide-open, point-blank shots and stuff like that.

She must have done really well on the AAU circuit to garner that kind of honor.  And good for her.  But I've watched the McDonald's AA game before and she's going to have to bring more than what she showed in those clips in order to make any kind of impact there.

Were the clips from AAU games, or were they HS games?  She goes to a very small school and the competition from the other schools in their league is seriously lacking.  Would have been interesting to see how she did against class A competition in this state.

Brother-in-law has coached against her and says she has vastly improved her strength, and will be a nice player for Illinois. Her competition is not too great at the high school level.  Didn't sound like she really wanted to go to Nebraska and wanted to head out of state.  Good luck to her.
