Lincoln Gopher Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 He is making a visit to Minnesota this weekend and going to the Gopher game tonight. He is a local kid from the Twin Cities area. He wants to move closer to home. Utah State wants him to stay. He committed to Utah St. early in junior year, I believe. He had offers from the Huskers, USC and Utah among others. Reports say several D1 schools are interested. We recruited this kid, and I have heard that he left Utah State. hhcmatt Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Depending on how close he wants to be to his home, we're behind Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa St, and Wisconsin in pecking order. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Wisconsin wants him? If this was 20 years ago, that wouldn't be a problem. But it ain't 20 years ago. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 By the way, Wisconsin's roster consists almost entirely of players from Wisconsin (x4), Illinois (x3), Ohio (x3), Minnesota (x2), Iowa (x1) and California (x1). (I can't quite tell who the walk-ons are but I suspect it might only be 3 from Wisconsin who are actually on scholarship.) The point of this is that they are not drawing from far and wide. Their footprint for recruiting doesn't appear to be as broad as ours is. And they've managed to build a program that, until recently, wasn't as good as ours. And what are they ranked now? Quote

I probably should have clarified that a bit more...these would be the teams that he would probably prefer geography-wise though that doesn't mean there is any mutual interest. Quote

Almost official, waiting to be admitted to Minnesota. Will walk on with a chance to earn a scholly. Would be eligible next January. Quote
Lincoln Gopher Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 It now appears that Shanks will not be going to Minnesota, was not admitted due to grades or ACT. He is reportedly going to university of North Dakota. Quote
