We recruited this kid, and I have heard that he left Utah State.  Would you take him?

THIS SEASON:

Has a good feel for the game... Must gain strength to be a successful Division I big man... Has made huge strides as a player and will continue to grow because of an excellent work ethic... Has good hands and all the ingredients to become another in a long line of great Aggie post players... Fits USU system and comes from a quality family that gave him the character he needs to excel at the Division I level.

He is making a visit to Minnesota this weekend and going to the Gopher game tonight.  He is a local kid from the Twin Cities area.  He wants to move closer to home.  Utah State wants him to stay.  He committed to Utah St. early in junior year, I believe.  He had offers from the Huskers, USC and Utah among others.  Reports say several D1 schools are interested.

By the way, Wisconsin's roster consists almost entirely of players from Wisconsin (x4), Illinois (x3), Ohio (x3), Minnesota (x2), Iowa (x1) and California (x1).

(I can't quite tell who the walk-ons are but I suspect it might only be 3 from Wisconsin who are actually on scholarship.)

The point of this is that they are not drawing from far and wide.  Their footprint for recruiting doesn't appear to be as broad as ours is.  And they've managed to build a program that, until recently, wasn't as good as ours.

And what are they ranked now?

Wisconsin wants him?  If this was 20 years ago, that wouldn't be a problem.  But it ain't 20 years ago.

I probably should have clarified that a bit more...these would be the teams that he would probably prefer geography-wise though that doesn't mean there is any mutual interest.

Reports out of Minnesota is that he wants to go there. Question is will he get a scholarship or walk on.

Looks like "wants to play close to home" was code for "wants to play close to home".

Almost official, waiting to be admitted to Minnesota. Will walk on with a chance to earn a scholly. Would be eligible next January.
