HuskerFever Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 In terms of fan support/bandwagoners, things are looking up for the program since Miles took over the program. Although last year's record was below modest, it was clear that Miles had a plan and, given time, could do something special for Nebraska basketball. We are still on the edge of our seats to see what Miles has up his sleeves. The question is: if there was no such thing as the Pinnacle Bank Arena, would people be as excited about last night's win (from a long-term perspective), or do the facilities act more as a placebo effect and garner added excitement for the players and fan base? In other terms, is there a difference between: 20-10 record with no new arena vs. 20-10 record with a new arena? I'm curious to see people's viewpoints on this. Quote
No Place Like the Vault Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 The arena definitely increases the excitement about this win, but moreso for the casual fans. The arena is major draw for casual fans and provides a new and exciting atmosphere that is gonna attract more people to the team. Diehard fans would have been just as impressed with this win if it were at the Bob. The team played good on both sides of the court and the upgrade in athleticism was off the charts even with 2 of our quicker guards suspended. I would like to see the place packed for the next 2 games as well but that may not happen due to the weak opponents. However, if the team continues to perform like they did last night, I don't see a reason why PBA won't be nearly full for all games. Quote

royalfan Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 For me it doesn't matter but for most it certainly does. The more casual the fan the more the new arena matters. hhcmatt 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 Royal, I kinda have to disagree with you on this one. Think of the term "dress for success." It may be bricks, wood and paint; but it is also a state of mind. It matters to the players, to the fans, to the nation. I went home after the game and a beer, and watched and listened to the game on BTN. They mentioned how the Huskers are now building to become a national basketball powerhouse. That word gets around. Build it, and they will come. "They" being the best of the best players. Hopefully it is just a matter of time. Quote
49r Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 I agree cwg. It's not placebo, it is real, tangible evidence that there is a will to build a winner at Nebraska. It isn't the end, but it is a means to it. Quote

I think we are talking about two different things. I am strictly talking about our production on the court. It would have made me just as happy doing this at the Bob. However, I am glad we have the new building as it will certainly help us get to the promised land. Quote
