preseason polls starting up

Lindy's magazine came out with their preseason top 25 last week. Huskers not in it.

 

And College Sports Madness started their preseason top 44 team countdown Sept 26th with Creighton coming in at #44. Each day a new team will make their debut in the poll counting down to the number 1 team which will be announced on the opening day of the season and I'll try to update their poll when I can. They also predict which position they will finish in their respective conference.

Here's a B1G poll from Full Court saying the Huskers will win the conference!

 

The 2012 Cornhuskers were the Big Ten’s youngest, but ultimately one of its best, teams. The squad consisted of two seniors, only one of whom played significant minutes, one junior, five sophomores and three freshmen. This year’s team adds three freshmen to make it again one of the league's youngest, but still one of the league's best.

After 31 days of counting down the top 44 in the College Sports Madness women's basketball poll, the Huskers come in at the lucky #13 spot! And picked to finish 1st in the B1G!

 

Nebraska is enjoying one of the best stretches of basketball success in school history. Last year, the Huskers made their second-ever Sweet 16, also their second in four years. Nebraska brings back a lot of experience this year, as four of last year's starters return and four other letter winners also come back. In their two years of Big Ten play, the Huskers have compiled a 22-10 record and finished second last season with a 12-4 record.

 

 

The Huskers will most likely be the class of the Big Ten and will rely on its dominant size in the frontcourt as they look to make it past the Sweet 16 this season.

That second quote is ridiculous.  We no more have dominant size in the front court than the man in the moon.  We don't even have a true center.  4 pak of Hooper, Cady, Simon and Havers aren't close to "dominant in size" for upper D1.

ESPN-W came out with their top twenty pre-season poll Sunday and the Huskers received their highest ranking of the pre-season yet, coming in at #10.

 

Defending NCAA champion Connecticut was a unanimous pick to lead off our preseason top 25, as voted by espnW.com's Charlie Creme, Kate Fagan, Graham Hays, Michelle Smith and Mechelle Voepel. The Huskies were also No. 1 in the Associated Press preseason rankings. Creme provided the analysis for each team below.

 

 

Here is his analysis for the Huskers.

 

The nonconference season will be about filling the leadership void created by the graduation of point guard Lindsey Moore. If that happens, the rest of the season will be about the Cornhuskers setting the pace in the Big Ten. Senior forward Jordan Hooper is one of the country's most productive offensive players. If junior Emily Cady and sophomore Rachel Theriot take that next step, so might Nebraska.

Husker should set pace in Big Ten

 

The roles have changed slightly, but the storyline remains the same in the Big Ten. Last year at this time, Penn State was the league favorite with Nebraska the primary threat. That is exactly how the regular season played out, the Lady Lions outpacing the Cornhuskers by two games. This time around, it's Nebraska, with four experienced starters back, that enters the season in the pole position. Penn State, with eight new players, assumes the role of chaser.

 

 

1. Nebraska (25-9): Lindsey Moore is tough to replace, but more than enough returns from what was probably the second-best team in school history. Jordan Hooper leads the parade of four returning starters. Emily Cady is a great No. 2 scoring option, and Rachel Theriot should be plenty ready to assume Moore's point guard spot. Winning the Big Ten and at least getting back to the Sweet 16 will be the benchmarks.

 

Rachel Theriot, Nebraska, sophomore: It is always a bit of a risk putting too many expectations on a team without a proven commodity at point guard. Lindsey Moore was one of the best players in Nebraska history and shepherded the Huskers during the most successful period in school history. Theriot can put any of those apprehensions to rest with solid point guard play early. If she does, Nebraska could be looking at a special season.
