Big Win for the Huskers!!

Congratulations to Darin Erstad's squad as three pitchers combined to no hit Dave Van Horn's 12th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks this afternoon. Huskers win game one 3-0! This was the first no hitter since 1993 when the Huskers no hit Peru St. This was the first no hitter threw against Arkansas in the history of their program.

That's the story of sports--as a fan, I was demoralized with losing the Ohio State series at home; especially game 2, which we flat out blew.  Losing patience.  Maybe we just suck.  Then, we sweep Arkansas, including a no-hitter.  Go figure.

I heard a few people start to question the Erstad hire after the OSU fiasco HB, what do you think? I like the guy myself and just think we need to give him time to get this thing rolling again.

One sucky thing with baseball is kids going pro early... A TON of spots compared to other sports... and Kids signing in other sports.  Sometimes they are good at other things than baseball.  But the big thing is the MLB draft and money.  Look at Bubba... doing terrible sadly

I am not sure why anyone would think Bubba is doing terribly.  He is highly rated, has a tremendous amount of raw talent and is sitting in an organization known for building (and yes, not being able to retain) talent:

I  like Ersty a lot, and enjoy listening to him talk about baseball.  I like his intensity and straight-forward approach.  I tend to be patient and realistic about these things, but I admit I was wavering during much of this season.  Not sure what I think of Bolt yet; he makes some strange decisions on sending runners home.  But I like the approach on the other bases.

It's too early to tell if Ersty will recruit well enough.  This team will have big player losses after the season, so there better be help on the way.

It was nice to followup on the Arkansas sweep with a 10-2 win today. Hopfully we'll take care of business the rest of the series.

Starling hit .275 in Rookie league ball, and his batting numbers are not much better this year is what I have heard.  Not even in low A ball yet.  A lot of those places have him a High Risk, with the possibility of being a star.  Great speed and arm, but bad jumps on the ball.  Have heard he can take just about any fastball yard, but can not hit a curve or anything with a break.

It might be because of his .176 average this year and 26 K's in 68 AB's.  No doubt Bubba has tremendous raw talent...and is very young but he has quite a bit of work to do from what I have heard.  Both in the field and at the plate.  Quite honestly I won't be shocked one way or the other if he ends up a MLB All-Star or it five years down the road he is struggling in minor league ball.  If he finds out baseball isn't the sport for him I hope he reconsiders playing for the Big Red.

This staff's first "real" recruiting class is nationally ranked.  As someone who watches the baseball program very closely compared to most other Husker fans id say the most encouraging thing this staff has done so far is on the recruiting trail  We are bringing in some of the midwest best talent and cherry picking some talent out of Texas/Cali.  No doubt a talent influx is needed...thus far, on paper...this staff has done a really good job in bringing in talent.  We have quite a bit to sell as a program and having Erstad has your head coach is only icing on the cake.  I haven't agreed with everything the staff has done and the up and down play this year has been frustrating....more so on the scheduling tactics early on but I may be incorrect on that by years end.

On the 2 non pay RPI sites we are at 32 with a 19-19 record so it has helped a bit.

Would have been nice to win a couple of the early games.

This year reminded me of the "old" days when we are first game was of first time outside.

The weather this spring has been tough on the Northern teams.
