I think the skepticism on Nico is fair. Especially at a place like Minnesota where resources are and have been thin. I think Devries is legit. And he’ll have no shortage of resources at Indiana. Plus his kid is pretty damn good and gives him a very nice building block

we obviously need 5 to 6 players just to fill out the roster. But ultimately, I agree with this you’ve already got a bunch of spots at the bottom of your roster with players who aren’t very good filled. You need to spend heavy on three guys. If you don’t get them, you’re in a lot of trouble. I’m not exactly enamored with the thought of taking the guy from Italy, but I suppose that’s a decent lottery ticket to take if it means you’re saving money to spend on three bigger fish.
-
We might not even have that.
-
Assuming we add a decent major conference team in Sioux Falls, That’s a better non-con than we had this year or last.
-
I didn’t actually want him
-
8th time is the charm!
-
Meah isn’t a loss. Worster would be nice to have.
-
An uber athletic 4 who can help protect the rim alongside Mast is my number 2 want. Berke’s ideal role is off the bench as the 6th/7th guy who can play both the 4 or 5 depending on opponents.
-
Their guard play was still bad. And It’s been their downfall for 3+ years
-
This.

Indiana’s guard play was as bad as it comes.

This
-
Reneau would be ideal
-
Does he need too given the past?
-
Harper is legit though too. But the fact that this team as it was constructed was even close to being in the conversation is a testament to Brice. Juwan would’ve played for a lot of teams. No one else is in the top 7-8 for one of the 8 tourney teams from the Big Ten.
-
35% is a stretch for a guy who has yet to shoot 30%. If you can find a guy with multiple years who is legit….that’s fine. But when you turn over 60%+ of your roster each year and your high school recruiting/retention is non-existent, it seems odd that you waste your last year of Bruce and Juwan in favor of an extra year of Berke down the road.
-
He’s legit. Maybe it’s my lack of respect for the Big East and the rest of our roster this year that pushes me towards Brice.
-
I agree. But there’s a lot of teams in there who have been more mediocre and against worst conference schedules.
-
I certainly don’t think we’re great. But it’s a mediocre field. And we very well might have the best player in the tournament.
-
Were his stats trending up? He had the one good game vs Ohio State. I wouldn’t call that a trend. I’d also argue that worrying about his future production is somewhat off base as well. We had an opportunity to build some success with Brice and Juwan coming back. Being successful in the moment is and was more impactful than what may happen down the line. Especially given Fred’s complete inability to do anything in the high school ranks, future roster building has relatively but nonexistent. I don’t see why we’re all the sudden worrying about it now with a mediocre player in Berke.

We need to be dropping the bag on a legit point card and an explosive power forward to pair with Mast. A season can be a good role player in the starting lineup. And wings are relatively easy to find. A legit point guard and a legit power forward or two things that we have never really had consistently under Hoberg, and that’s where we need to spend. You add those two things to go alongside Mast and you’ve got a very nice core. Berke isn’t a focal point. He’s a role player at best. And he can be a nice role player because of his ability to be somewhat effective at both the four and the five. He’s just not good enough to occupy one spot or the other. He can still get 20 to 25 minutes per game in a backup role.
-
I understand that. But we should’ve known what was out there and what we needed. Open the purse earlier and it saves you what you occurred. You had Brice at a good cost. You wasted him by being cheap early. We went all in on Rollie way too early as well. He was never going to be in high demand. You basically had Ulis on board for being your shitty shooting, turnover making distributor. and I don’t think Rollie was a terrible add. But not as early as we did. Especially given what we paid for others and what Chuckie reportedly got paid. could’ve been a top 10 season in school history but you pretended Berke and Meah were good because you misplayed things and got desperate
-
Is it really hindsight though? Both of those bigs have been nothing but mediocre for their college career. that’s not to say you can’t bring them in….but if your dropping over a mil on them…..you screwed up. For that money, you should be finding significantly better options.
-
It’s horrible roster management if it’s true. You should be able to find a pretty good player for $500k+. Again, if the rumors are true on that. We supposedly didn’t/couldnt write the check for Chuckie, but we spent over a million on Berke and Meah. That’s a very poor choice.

Right now, I think us or Boise play USC in the final
