If we attempt 60 FG per game ...
Huskerpapa replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Perhaps our opponents are respecting our 3 point shooting ability, and are coming out strongly to defend, thus opening up our 2 point shots? Just to add, I am very concerned with our ability to finish at the rim. We seem to miss an alarming number of our bunnies. -

Yep -
Yet he seems to get along with the referee's. He chats with them coming out of time outs and so forth. Heck if I was Keisei, and I was angry, I would simply speak Japanese and the refs would have no clue if I was angry.

uneblinst's postgame chatter: vol 16; ed 4 - Stony Brook

I haven't heard anything, so I am hoping that Sam is okay. He took a nasty fall towards the end of the game and was holding his hip when he came out of the lineup. Typically, the players high five everyone on the bench when they come out, in this instance he simply waved his hand and gingerly sat down. -
Hard to change a kids personality. Keisei is adored by the fans. I believe he brings those that are somewhat passive at games, to their feet. I also believe that the coaching staff either pushes or supports Keisei's reactions. I have no issues with any of the players emotions so far this year. Although, Boogie never likes to come out of games...and that can be okay IF he doesn't show up his coach AND he supports his teammates.

Not 100% convinced that the starting lineup needs fixed or adjusted. I do believe that the rotation is clearing up a bit. If you divide the players into groups, it kinda/sorta looks like this: Front court: Josiah and Mast Swing: Gary, Williams, CJ, maybe Eli, Back court: Lawrence, Keisei, Sam, Boogie I look at that grouping and can anticipate who loses time if we go to an eight man rotation. No need to go there; yet we can all make our guesses. I know Blaise and Lloyd may come back sooner or later. Perhaps they can unseat a player if their practice habits stand out. But that will be hard to do since December/bigger games are right around the corner. -

Stoney Brook played hard last night. I commend them for their effort. We started slow and gained momentum throughout the game. We need to relearn that 40 minute mentality that "we got" during the lader half of last season. Offensively we launched some quick shots; but generally there weren't very many bad shots. A few yes, but not many. Spacing was good, and we had some good movement. Some bad passing occurred but I still think we are building chemistry. It simply looks like we are trying to force things at times. If I have angst, it is with the struggle we seem to have in finishing at, or near the rim. Sheesh. Defensively, we looked okay. We lost the shooters on occasion but man, they drilled some long ones which you really can't do much about. Keisei may have missed more free throws last night than he did over any ten game stretch last year. -

Free throw shooting practice is a necessity. -

I will give the Stoney's credit, they are working hard. Hopefully we will pull away in the 2nd half. -

Welllll, technically he never really said he was playing tonight. So a bit of a loophole. -
They are good seats...and that is where I will be as well

How do other women's teams approach the walk-on process? Is the Husker method unique? I truly do not know, so I am just asking. I just went and checked and the huskers do have 13 scholarships filled if you include Maggie. Sooo. Injuries happen, I don't believe you can blame those on the coaches. I mean Jaz simply rolled her ankle. Right?
-
We had a discussion on the walk-on topic last night at the game. The men's team leverages walk-ons to run scout team and sometimes one or more of those walk-ons get playing time (Sam Hoiberg). Instead of walk-ons, the ladies have a stable of young men that they practice against. So the need for walk-on players does not exist. I am not sure that is a correct assumption; but it seems to make some sense. That said, the lack of a full roster really bites when the injuries hit.

Offense struggled all night. No rhythm/continuity. Defense played well. No issues jump out. We handled pressure okay, but it may have created issues getting into the flow of the offense. Rebounded pretty well. Hustled pretty well. Good free throw shooting. Good to have Keisei back, but no way he was 100%. Finally got it going late. Half of those who played struggled. The good news is the other half sort of picked them up. Rider was a decent team. We played through the offensive struggles for a win.

Hope they get to sit by me.

A bit of a trap game so to speak; but Us 81 Them 61 -
I thought the same thing. That said, I thought she called a good game. If I'm not mistaken, she called the block and insuing technical on the Rider player. The block call looked legit. She was starting to make the call and her head jerked around...I assumed the player used a "magic" word at that moment. On offense, it looked sort of like we hadn't practiced in awhile. Spacing looked decent for the most part. We went from hero ball, to quick shots, to forced shots and then forced passes often. I will opt to look at the glass being half full. Most of the mistakes can be used as teachable moments. The team needs to be good students.

Yeah, this should be a more competitive game tonight. They have a couple good players, but seem to lack depth. I sure hope we pull away at the end...
