  1. I get that. It may be a change in mentality more than anything else. The last two games we have gotten steals and get down the floor. It may be more the desire to get out in transition than a total philosophy change. It also has to do with allowing the young athletes to remain in the game despite making a mistake. Maybe that is more out of necessity than anything else since Gill went down but it's allowing our athletes the freedom to just go out and compete rather than trying so hard to play mistake free within a strict system knowing they could get yanked.
  2. Agree with this. I think I said this in another thread after the southern win but I'll say it again. I do believe the talent is being unleashed and it's exactly what needed to happen. When Molinari came on board with his gum it up style and pack line defense it seemed we went away from the trapping and transition game. I believe the gummy style is a necessity when you're at a lesser school with lesser talent. You really need to mess the game up to give your lesser athletes a chance in games. We have athletes. We went toe to toe with Indiana and Maryland. We have players. I'm glad this staff seems to have realized that they just need to let our athletes go out and play.
  3. So say we continue what we are doing and win a bunch more games. Would the wins count positively toward the growth of the program? Or would they be downplayed with the "just got hot/Lightning in a bottle" phenomenon? Also, if the young team hits a down portion of the rollercoaster and loses a couple that we now think should be won, is that better because future shortcomings won't be perceived as poorly? Just wondering. Go Big Red!
  4. Edward. F-ing. Morrow. Junior. 12 points 10 rebounds (6 offensive) 5 blocks 1 steal he is a man
  5. Yeah I say we try for a win against Maryland too. Seems like a good plan.
  6. Lets get more wins. Would that be okay with everyone? Ok. Sounds great.
  7. And just to keep this going...Molinari has very much a gum it up and make the game ugly style. It's what he had to do in order to give his team a chance in games at Western Illinois. He had a lesser athlete and that's how he had to play to give his teams a shot. Well guess what? We have the athletes now. I'm betting this team would do better if they were turned loose to do their athlete stuff. How about a "go out and play" mentality? We have the athletes here. We have some players. We no longer need to feel inferior. Just go out and compete.
  8. Remembering back to pre-Molinari. We would double team, trap, jump passing lanes and get out in transition. Am I making this up? That 2013-14 season, the first in PBA, we would try and create a little more havoc on the defensive end. Once Petteway or whomever would steal a pass in the lane, we were down the floor in transition. I think we need to get back to doing that. I might be inventing the Molinari correlation in my mind but it seems like he brought a different defensive philosophy with him where trapping is disallowed. It's more about sagging off and cutting off driving lanes. And then we just don't push the ball as much any more. Somebody with more basketball knowledge chew on that a little bit and let me know I'm right about Molinari.
  9. We've seen this game before. UMBC with Doc, Miles had last year with Samford. The real question is where the season goes from here. One game doesn't decide anything.
  10. Wouldn't it be funny if we beat Kansas? Had to type that so I can come back to this thread and see what happens in the off chance we win somehow.
  11. Your last point about Eichorst making a CEO type hire is the exact reason we can't be so quick to get rid of Miles. Fans really need to remember where this program was with Collier/Sadler. Some of us forget quickly and other fans seemed to come on board or re-board with the Miles hiring and lack a little perspective. Nebrasketball was not a mentionable thing (at all for any reason whatsoever) under Collier or Sadler. When Miles was hired we had instant national attention due to Miles' personality and connections to various people. There were suddenly articles, national articles written about Nebrasketball/Tim Miles. They followed his recruiting and wrote about our first class facilities. Attention was brought to a program that nobody mentioned for at least a decade. Miles brought in what were celebrity status recruits for visits within the first month of being here. The Chicago guys, etc. Remembering back, I couldn't believe any of the things going on were actually a real thing that was happening. It was all like a weird dream. Now, I'm not saying with certainty one way or the other on Miles. It's still very much up in the air. However, the point about who we could possibly get if Miles was done is a good one. And the point about Eichorst making another CEO type hire ala Mike Riley has me very worried. The way I see it, the Miles hire brought the Nebrasketball name to the forefront. The hire gave life to a program that never really had any. But the program still has yet to really do anything. Football, with its tradition here at NU gives the more business hire in Mike Riley a chance to work. I really can't see this working out at all in basketball. A poor hire from Eichorst could propel us right back to a Collier-Sadler-esque program. We'll see.
  12. Yes. We finally have a team full of smart, capable players. It's been awhile since we had a team that wasn't handicapped in certain area(s). We seem to have guys who play smart and share the ball well. We have multiple guys who are capable of carrying the load offensively, when needed, but none who appear like they have to be the guy (forcing things). I like this team.
  13. Speaking of the great Runza, any Italian Runza fans on here? They're back but you've got to eat as many as you can while they last. I remember a time when the Italian was a standard choice. You had original, cheese, or Italian to pick from when you ordered your #1 large sized with a diet whatever.
  14. I could be wrong but I believe coach mentioned Morrow here: https://twitter.com/RobinWashut/status/783735260785745920 I've said it and I'm going to keep saying it. Morrow is going to be an absolute beast for us this season. We saw maybe 35% of what he can do last year due to injury. 10 and 10 would not surprise me at all and that is with Jordy down low and Jacobson in the mix too.
