The most positive stat of the night. 7 different players finished with an assist. And finished with 15 assists on 26 makes. Need to build on that. -
uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 14; ed 3 - vs. Creighton

For the first time since Hoiberg has been here, I am confident in our free throw shooting, and saying getting to the line 9 times is not good for us. We went the first two games, making 49 free throws, while the opponents attempted 30 free throws. Doc needs to go to work with Verge and Bryce. They play way too straight up on defense. If brfrad sees it, the coaches have to see it. That needs to get addressed. It was no surprise they got beat off the dribble. The game was lost with 16 minutes to go when we are down 1, and get the ball. We get an offensive foul on Bryce. We let Creighton have 3 shots the next trip, finally grab a rebound, miss a shot. We have 2 chances to take the lead, and fail. After 3 1/2 minutes, we go down 6. Edwards had one of the poorest decisions I have seen, and no surprise he gets 0 minutes in the 2nd half. We have the ball with 23 seconds left in the first half, down 3. We have a chance to go down 1 or tied at half, and he decides to shoot a 3 with 15 seconds left. My starting line-up is: Kobe Verge Bryce Wilcher Andre Kobe needs to be our main PG and Verge needs to play off the ball. Verge is NOT a PG. Bryce was bound to struggle. Needs to figure out how not to force shots. Backdoors should have been the name of his game, all night. I am not given up on this team, yet. We need to win these next 4 games by double digits. -

I was listening to the Iowa Minnesota game last night. I am still perplexed on time management by both coaches. Minnesota has 1 time out remaining and has the ball with 2:20 to play in the game. 4th and 17 from their own 3 yard line. Down 2. I'm thinking you should punt the ball. Use your 1 time out. Try to stop them from getting a 1st down. You should get the ball back with around :40 hopefully around the 15 to drive for a game winning field goal. Fleck decides to go for it and fails. Now, Iowa gets the ball at the Minnesota 3 with 2:18 to go. All you have to do is get 3 yards and go ahead by 9, virtually sealing the game. They play super conservative and go backwards 8 yards, and try a field goal with 0:41 left. Minnesota gets the ball back after the kick-off goes from their own 29 to Iowa's 39 until Morgan gets stripped sack and time expires. Now, imagine if Minnesota had punted and ended up getting the ball to Iowa's 39. You get to try a 56 yarder to win it.

There will now be at most 2 teams who have failed to make a bowl game since Frost has been here. Nebraska and the loser of Maryland and Rutgers. Maryland has Michigan and Rutgers. Rutgers has Penn State and Maryland. Both teams have 5 wins. Just need 1 more. That shows how far this team has fallen.

16 offensive rebounds given up, but tied them in 2nd chance points with 14. Difference was at the free throw line. NU 26 - 36 SHSU 8 - 16 I thought defense was good for the most part. Flagg took 22 shots to get 31 points. To contrast, Bryce took 13 shots to get 29 points. Flagg tried to keep them in the game. Flagg was 12 - 22. 5 - 10 from 3. The rest of the team was 12 - 42. 4 - 20 from 3. Verge played a little more unselfish tonight. Still had his moments where he dribbled around without a purpose. Have to shoot better from 3. Can't go 0 - 15 outside of Bryce going 4 - 7 to win many games, especially in conference play. On to Creighton, who squeaked by Kennesaw State last night. -

We have to start hitting outside shots. Bryce was 4 - 7. The rest of the team was 0 - 15. I thought Verge for the most part, played less selfish tonight. He still had his moments where he would dribble. I wish we had a Watson with this team. -

Yes. She was hired when they went in-house. I don't know what she does. -

Good plan. We lose a bunch of games to start the season, and then when Big 10 season rolls around, we start actually playing, and get the other teams to be overconfident. -

This team better figure it out in the 2nd half, and get this crap turned around. -

I thought the same thing, but then remembered we would have to rebound the miss. What was the lowest percentage? Them making 2 free throws, them missing the second and getting a rebound, or a 7 footer making a 25 foot 3? -

Nebraska 80 Sam Houston 65 I got to believe Fred is going to get it turned around. This team is too talented to be a 7 win team. -

A silver lining I was trying to think about. I remember an Iowa State team beat a Division 2 team in OT their 1st game. I looked it up and it was in 2000 - 01, they beat Morningside 102 - 97 in OT. They went on to make the NCAA tournament as a 2 seed. In Nebraska fashion they lose in the 1st round to Hampton. But, I will take an NCAA tournament trip this year. I don't see it happening. -

Here's another stat. Western Illinois was 7 - 31 from 3 in the first 39:40, and 2 - 2 from like 25 feet in the last 0:20. Ohio State is ranked 17th, they find a way to beat Akron on a last second shot. We have a 4 point lead with 0:20 to go against Western Illinois and lose. That's Nebrasketball in a nutshell. Nights like tonight make me think we are never winning that NCAA tournament game in my lifetime. -

The sad part, is that we saw more effort and focus in the EXHIBITION games. Can someone please tell me why that is the case? -

The first 39 minutes of the game. 21 - 25 from the free throw line. Last minute 2 - 6. Verge needs to stop dribbling the ball into the lane with nowhere to go. He attempted way more than 20 shots, and no way had 5 assists. Teams are going to crash the boards. So many bad things out of this game, it's hard to find a silver lining. My expectation was at least finish .500, but if we don't start moving the ball, this team will be lucky to reach 10 wins this year. -

That's some inaccurate stats. No way Verge had 5 assists. To get an assist you have to pass the ball. -

16 shot attempts is not good, though. Way, way, way too much dribbling by he and Verge tonight. Need to move the ball.
