  1. "I do see great potential here. There's no question about that... if we can get the kids on campus, there's a lot to sell here... we expect to get some high level kids in here (to visit)."
  2. "We lose a lot... I think the world of Palmer... Tough blow with the injuries... we'll see what happens with the transfers and the portal." "I don't know what the roster will look like at this point... I didn't take this job unless I was confident I could turn this program around consistently."
  3. Lots of questions about Iowa State and Iowa today.
  4. How long to get program to success: "I don't know. I met with the players for the first time today... met with a few of them on the phone... Didn't have high expectations or limits on the players (at Iowa State)... I'm going into this thing with an open mind... high expectations... (heavy) schedule going before spring break."
  5. He enjoyed yoga and Price is Right and debated sitting out this year to see what opens up in the NBA next year. But once the Nebraska job was officially open, they were interested.
  6. Hoiberg: "I think the world of Tim Miles... I talked to Tim two days ago... It really was hard for me to see the rumors out there... I did not want to be disruptive of that... Let's wait (with Moos) until this thing is over (to have a conversation)."
  7. What to say to ISU fans: Hoiberg: "I love the direction of Iowa State basketball right now. We played a big part in that success... I'm proud of what we did there... It was a great run. I loved everything we did. I love going back... I'll always be a fan... I hope they can support the situation that I'm in now."
  8. How quickly to get up and running: "We just want to get the best talent possible on the floor, whatever way that will be (transfer or 4-year players)." "We gave our team a chance to be successful and play at the next level."
  9. Hoiberg: "We try to play with great pace... (pick-and-roll/pick-and-pop or spread the floor out; depending on the players they have)... One thing that's consistent is the fast pace."
  10. Hoiberg: "I'm a lot better coach now, with the years in the NBA, than before I got there... When you coach at the different levels, I've seen it at different levels. I've seen it as a player... as a front office executive... and now coaching in college and the NBA. I take on all those experiences."
  11. Hoiberg: "We want this to be our last stop."
  12. Hoiberg: "I did talk to some other schools... Didn't see anything that excited me... Came to the decision 4 days ago."
  13. Side note: March 4 was the day before the game at Michigan State.
  14. Moos cont... "Learned about Fred... During that time, I was supporting my coaches...in a bit of a slump... Cataloged that in my mind and went about my business." Met March 4 in Chicago.
  15. Timeline of first contact: Moos: "We have a great fraternity of coaches here. Fred joins some other very gifted coaches... Mark Hankins brought Fred's name up to him (classmate, great friend, and roommate in college)."
  16. Met with the team just before the press conference about the opportunities we have moving forward. "I challenged them...the amount of effort it takes... The hardest worker... Demand that from our players." Starting with workouts the week right after the Final Four.
  17. Watched a lot of basketball these last couple of years because of Jack and MSU.
  18. Long term success here: a lot to do with the facilities here. Notes his time here for an NBA game at PBA. These facilities are as good as any in the country. Fans the best, second to none,
  19. Spending the first 5 minutes talking about his ties to Nebraska. "We have great ties to this state... to this University..."
  20. But we're on a Nebrasketball message board talking about Nebraska basketball! Not Iowa State!
  21. For this... I do miss Miles.
  22. Hoiberg introduced as 28th MBB Coach "We want this to be our last stop" - Fred Hoiberg Just starting a thread for today's press conference notes, comments, opinions, and other chatter. Full Presser View full article
  23. Not all superheroes wear capes.
  24. I'm just glad what's happening to UCLA didn't happen to us: https://www.bruinsnation.com/platform/amp/ucla_basketball_coaching_search/2019/4/1/18291347/is-panic-starting-to-set-in-at-ucla-over-hiring-of-a-new-basketball-coach UCLA has a hyperinflated view of the state of their program. They shoot for the fences trying to poach Calipari. Kentucky responds with a lifetime contract. Then panic sets in and the program locks in on Cronin (Cincinnati) and Dixon (TCU), meanwhile the fanbase is holding out for Tony Bennett (Virginia) thinking he's actually a possibility. "If UCLA is insistent on hiring someone whose team isn’t in the Final Four by next week, it will be certain that they hurried and made another mistake in a long line of poor hiring decisions by Dan Guerrero."
