3 point defense is also up quite a bit from last year. Currently sitting at 109.

Nearly every team has a hole somewhere. If NU keeps shooting well and they keep having 4 guys hit double figures, they'll win a lot of games. We haven't had that at NU in a long time.
-
9/19, 47.4% last night. 3rd game in a row, 4th in 5 over 40%. Up to 149 in CBB. Jumped 53 spots last night.

Offense seems to be coming around. The first half was really sharp. Defense is still a work in progress. It's better than it was at the beginning of the year, but there's still a long way to go. We need Roby to get back soon. He makes such a big difference for this team. Coach talked about it on the post game show. Copeland's finding his rhythm. His mid-range jumper is smooth. Glynn is good at basketball. The energy on defense is better. The execution isn't where it needs to be, but the energy and effort is much better and for longer stretches. Hopefully that will turn into better production on that end sooner rather than later. They show glimpses of being disruptive defensively, especially on the perimiter and in passing lanes, but they just need to get more consistent. It's largely a mentality thing, I think. Boston College is a bad jump shooting team. They're athletic and can do some things off the dribble, but at least tonight, they threw up some ugly shots from 3. Good to see Thomas Allen back out there. I like what I see from him when he's out there. He's gonna be fun to watch grow over the course of the season. Not sure we really need an in game emcee. There was a while there in the middle of the second half where BC was winning a lot of the statistical categories, except for 3 point shooting. NU pulled away down the stretch, but there was a while there where there was some concern. The free throw shooting makes want to bang my head against the wall. Things get real beginning on Sunday. Let's see how much fight these guys have.

Hope so. You need guys like ET to chip in if we're gonna get to where we want to go. I didn't/don't want to start a fight on this topic. Just noticed we'd been shooting it better lately and need it to keep up.
-
We're getting away from the point. They've been shooting it a lot better the past few games. We need that to continue.
-
Which is a lot less than the 70% he's hitting from now. He'd had two consecutive years before this of terrible shooting.
-
They're not favored. Just some dude or a few people on TV who picked BC.
-
I could be remembering it wrong (wouldn't be the first time...) but I thought part of what he was expected to contribute last year was the ability to hit from 3 along with his ability to get to the rim. Either way, him hitting from 3 is a welcome addition.
-
I know that. But when he came in, that was part of his rep, that he'd be able to hit from deep.
-
On the flip side, Jack's 1/7 from 3. A large reason why his minutes have gone down. Maybe the only reason. If he's not hitting from deep, he doesn't have a ton else to contribute right now.
-
I wouldn't put Taylor in that category yet. He's being left wide open, and when he is, he's showing he can make it, which is great, but he's not a guy I want taking a guarded 3 or trying to create his own shot from deep.
-
A guy who came in known in part for his shooting hitting shots isn't as surprising to me as a guy who had shown to be a pretty poor shooter hitting at a high rate. Having them both hitting shots is hopefully a harbinger of things to come.
-
After starting the season shooting 27% from 3, over the past four games, the Huskers have picked the pace from deep and have shot an even 40% over the past four games. Over the last two games, NU shot 45% from 3. Will need that trend to continue, especially as the schedule stiffens. Vs. LBSU, they went 7/16. I think that's a pretty good range to settle into. The four previous games they'd attempted more than 20 shots from beyond the arc. A really pleasant surprise has been Evan Taylor who is 5/7 on the season.

Expectations for the next 5 games?
uneblinstu replied to FredsSlacks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I mean, we'll be big underdogs, sure, but I'm not gonna get fatalistic about these games. Hopefully the players won't be either. -
Tennessee peeps are pining for the same thing we are. They wan't a former legendary QB who won a national title and is hot stuff in the up-and-coming ranks to come home. All of the signals point to NU or staying at UCF for Frost.

Looks like a great opportunity, to me! -

Well, we don't know yet if Roby will be sidelined, do we? I don't think I'll ever be "happy" going 1-4 in a five game stretch. If they continue to improve defensively and the improved play of Gill and Copeland carries over, we'll have a punchers chance in a couple of those, especially at home. I agree with @LK1 that I think we'll be a real tough out at PBA. Need more from Jordy, too. Sports can be weird sometimes, especially college basketball. No reason we can't knock off a couple of "giants" the next couple weeks. -
I'd be thrilled to get Fuente if it falls apart with Frost.

1st Half: That was as good of a start as I can remember NU getting off to in a very long time. They started the game shooting 72%, you knew that wasn't gonna keep up. Foul trouble to Jordy and Duby was problematic. At least one of Duby's was dubious. Roby's injury is worrisome. If he's out for awhile, that makes the front court pretty thin. He appears to have a bit of a catalytic effect on the team as well. Roby being out for a while would be a big blow. The biggest issue of the season for me is still how they're gonna manage when Glynn's off the court. He's not just the straw that stirs the drink, he's the drink a lot of times. too. If Gill is finding his sea legs, that's a huge piece of the Nebrasketball puzzle this season. He and Copeland have really come on as of late. The last two games, NU's played with a lot better energy. They have to play with that and more when the schedule ramps up over the next couple of weeks. The fast start came on the heals of good to great defense. When that disappeared, the offense struggled, big time. A lot of that happened with Roby, Jordy and Duby unavailable and Watson on the bench. 2nd Half: Out of the break, they found the energy again and found the offensive rhythm again. Our big men have to figure out how to turn post feeds into layups or dunks when they get clear looks at the rim. They expose the ball to smaller defenders way too much. I take that back, NU's front court play is the biggest cause for concern right now. Timely bucket from Allen who I think sat and watched the first 35 minutes of the game before getting subbed in unless I missed it. I assume he's progressing from his fall last week? We can't seem to do anything easy. The goal was two wins this weekend. They got it. Big game on Wednesday that's just as much of a must win as this was. I may have more thoughts, but I gotta run for now.

I didn't get to watch any of this game. Sounds like it was fun and Gill had himself a night. I'm not gonna get too worked up until they do this vs. a high major team. Sunday vs. Long Beach should give the Huskers a good chance to come home with 2 wins. Gotta wonder how helpful these events are if you're not gonna face good teams, could have easily scheduled two home games vs. teams like Marist and LBST. If you want to challenge yourself for that third game vs. a team like UCF, you could probably do that, too. Make it a road game if you want. Seems like if you're not in Maui, Battle 4 Atlantis, or you don't win your event, it's not really worth it.

I only got to watch or listen to spurts of the first half. What I heard and saw was pretty ugly and felt pretty typical of what I've watched the past few years. Second half: They hit a couple shots early and brought a lot more energy. Switched the defense up that got UCF out of sorts. I liked Jordy getting physical with Tacko. NU seems to get out hustled a lot. NU needs to be junk-yard dogs. They're not most of the time. The opponent has been more often. This is the best Jordy has looked all year. Palmer and Watson showed up today. They had a chance to cut it to 4 a couple of times. Jordy missed the front end, then UCF hit a 3 from a dude who'd been 1-8 on the season. Then, NU gets a bucket and a turnover, Glynn takes a quick 3 and then Jordy about killed a dude. Game was all but over at that point. The next two are winnable. Make sure it happens. Nobody's gonna be watching tomorrow and, assuming Marist doesn't shock the world, they're gonna be winless on the season. Gotta end up in that 5th place game on Sunday. They *should* be the best team of those 4 that lost today. Doubtful I'll get to the chatter tomorrow.
