uneblinstu's postgame chatter: Vol: 10; ed: 14 - Del State
uneblinstu replied to Huskerpapa's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Thanks, @huskercwg. Ran into some friends after the game and didn't get home til later than expected. Not our best effort and we put up 80+. -
I don't think 10-8 will be enough. Think we need more than that. 11-7 minimum, probably 12-6 with where the B1G is this year. And I'm not chalking Purdue up as a sure loss.

Oh, the Mavs and Bulls both eclipsed it, too. So they would have dropped 3 spots. You're lucky day, UTSA. -

Man, Andrew Wiggins had a good game. He'll be disappointed. Only one team made it above 94 points that day, so really the Roadrunners only would have been bumped one spot, not two. -

Are we counting the NBA exhibition? -
Beating Creighton and/or Kansas would have helped, too.

That's the question. And you know what, it may not be this year. He's got 2 1/2 years left. It's not uncommon for a season like this to be part of the learning curve. I think he'll be a stud here by the time he's done, but it may not be this year. I'm just hoping he can regain the form he had at the end of last season. Just that would be a huge boost for this year. -

He's always done the little jump thing. But I though his shot looked really flat, too. Looked like Miles got on him about it after he took him out after one of his missed free throws. Hopefully it was just a bad game. We'll see if they get that fixed for Friday. -

Meh, ticker on BTN said it was a school record... But the record was in 1954. They attempted 60 vs. KState on Jan. 11. That said, we made more today than we did that day. -

Turns out it's never happened, at least not at NU. This was a new program record. Also, career highs for Gill and Palmer. Nice night all around. -
? We knew UTSA would let if fly and boy, did they! Fortunately, the Roadrunners rep for not playing any defense was also true. NU finally broke the century mark under Miles. In fact, it'd been 12 years since it last happened. That's kinda ridiculous, actually. NU attempted 50 free throws. FIFTY! When was the last time that happened? We needed them, too. Had a nice game from behind the arc, too. The crowd was flat, which was to be expected. But man, pregame it was...woof... Thought the team came out with pretty good energy to start. I was worried about that. Wasn't necessarilly the case in the 2nd half, but to start the game, it was good. Gill was really good tonight. 21 points and is really coming on strong lately. Good to see for many reasons. Glynn's spur to start the 2nd half was huge. Jordy's unplayable right now. His confidence is shot. It's time to make the transition to Roby. Roby didn't have a great game, but was pretty solid defensively. Evan Taylor had a nice night, too. Had a tough assignment covering Jackson who was hitting everything from everywhere. He was 5-10 on the game, but it felt like 50-10. Palmer had himself a night. He led the team with 25, but it honestly didn't feel like he was having that big of a night while the game was happening. I was concerned about this game after the gut punches of the last couple. I think it was pretty big that they were able to find a way to get this win. Let's get another on Friday.

I had to miss that game. Don't remember why. But I was pissed when I saw this happened and I missed it.

Look friends, tonight was special. In a game like this, you can dissect it a thousand different ways and come up with a different outcome. I don't really feel like doing that. This team played its guts out. They've proved to me they can play well enough to make it to March. They need to carry this forward. I think they will. Heckuva time for Thomas Allen to break out. Would have liked to see him a little more at the end. Coming into this four game stretch many on here said if they went 1-3, it would be a success. Well, we did that and it feels like it could have been so much more. They were a whisper away from being 3-1 instead. That should show them they're good enough. Hopefully the end of this one doesn't linger. Personally, I wish they hadn't brought out Coach Frost before the game. I wish they'd have found a different time for that. I thought it took away from the moment for the basketball team. The crowd was awesome tonight. Really great. It seems like the AD is re-embracing the "Husker Power" chant during intros. There were a lot of hidden 1997 gems in the playlist tonight. Props to Chris Pankonin. It was cool to watch the end of the volleyball match after the game. A good number of people stuck around for the end of game two. I'd say half the crowd. Then half of that crowd stuck around for game 3. And probably by the end of the match, we were down to about 1500 people, but they let out a good roar when they ended it. We may not have a night like this that doesn't involve football game in a long time. I hope you can appreciate how cool tonight was, and it was a hair lash away from being a night that would be on the short list of greatest nights of Husker Sports. It still might be with some room for hindsight. -
I think these are supposed to be our main home unis. I say that only because our red roads mirror these. But we have several other white/cream alternates that we've worn more than this. Almost all of them are better than these, IMO. We don't really have a red alternate (at least not that we've used so far this year). The one Bobcat mentioned were great, but I don't think we've ever busted them out for a road game. I think we wore that in the conference tournament, IIRC.

It seems to me, too, that he gets up too far away from the basket. I haven't broken down film either, but it seems like he gets the ball 8-10 feet from the rim way too often. That makes that shot a lot harder than it needs to be and opens him up to offensive fouls. Maybe that's partly on his teammates for where they get him the ball, too, IDK. In contrast, Azubuike on Saturday, was getting the ball directly under the rim, or just a couple feet out, regardless of who was on him. That made it impossible to set him up for the offensive foul, much less defend against the dunk. Part of me thinks he should be setting himself up in better position, too. Again, those are very amateur observations, so maybe there's a component I'm missing.

Expectations for the next 5 games?
uneblinstu replied to FredsSlacks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Yes, I think we should avoid a winning streak so we won't have the pressure of ending it in the tournament. Lose a couple, just for posterity. -

Eh, not sure about that. Purdue is gonna be really tough to beat in their building. We're fortunate we get them over Christmas break. -

Yep...we were a whisper from having a really great stretch. Instead, it was merely acceptable. We don't need to go on a long winning streak, we just need to keep playing hard and getting better. The rest will take care of itself. We shouldn't need to run the table in February like we basically did in '14. Just keep playing hard. If nothing else, I hope they took that away from these past few games. -

Gotta have the next 3. Can't lose focus. Stealing one of those roadies would be huge. Had someone in the program tell me yesterday that UTSA doesn't play a lick of defense. Should be a lot of points scored in that one.
