Creighton (8-0) vs Nebraska (5-3) Game Thread
Fullbacksympathy replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Jordy plays 30 seconds and we get a 2 ft jumper... missed, but still... I am really baffled about the inability of our coaching staff to see what a literally massive difference he makes inside. This is precisely the game he can be dominant. There is no matchup for him. -

I really don't like Taylor getting minutes in this game. At all. -

We win if Jordy plays every minute Patton plays in the second half. -

We have a lot better front court than they do. We need to take advantage. Guards are a wash... they have better swing players. We actually match up really well. Just needed to calm the hell down. -

Looks like we're going to play the matchup game with Jordy v. Patton. It's clear we have a huge advantage there. That's a good sign for the game. -

Jordy needs to play every minute Patton plays. He's twice as good as Patton. -

If Jordy is sitting after the timeout I'm going to lose my mind. Leave him in. They don't like going against him. They aren't physical inside. Put Morrow in with him and watch what happens. -

Put in Jordy and start a fight. -
I've been noticing that during games, and it's driving me nuts. We could absolutely dominate the paint with Jordy and either Ed or MJ in at the 4. If we aren't shooting well, we can definitely beat people up.

I was hoping we wouldn't be in this position, but I think we have to either beat CU or KU in order for the noncon to be considered a success. That Clemson loss was really tough. I'm still encouraged though--we're obviously a tough out for pretty much anyone we'll play, so I think we'll give CU a game this year. -
I think it definitely should be the expectation. My issue with Gill and McVeigh (and I think Roby and Horne will be in this category) is that they are streaky shooters. You have to evaluate them early on when they are in the rotation and pull them if they aren't heating up at all. Jacobson, to me, has been really underutilized offensively this year because he apparently doesn't think he can get to the rim. But it seems like every time he makes a concerted effort to get to the hoop via dribble penetration, he actually gets there and finishes or gets fouled. He's a skilled player. It's like he's forgotten how much muscle he has put on. That's the difference between he and Morrow right now--Ed knows how strong he is. If Jacobson can't find a post presence or even a dribble-drive presence, we're better with Jordy getting more of his minutes and Ed sliding over to the 4. But for Gill, McVeigh, Roby, Horne, and Jacobson, you gotta be a D1 player and shoot the rock if you're open in rotation, and we gotta live with the results.

Jordy has earned more minutes, in my opinion. I thought he was a game changer when he was in there. I have no idea why we refuse to play he and Morrow together and absolutely destroy other teams inside with physicality. I think Morrow would've had an easier time guarding Blossomgame than Jacobson. I thought Jacobson and Jordy should've split minutes at the 5 last night. More on Jordy: I'm not sure how many are paying attention, but he has excellent court awareness on both ends. He's a good passer and is comfortable with the ball in his hands. He also knows how to clear the lane for guards to get to the rim, and is a mean offensive rebounder. Defensively, he had some nice blocks and shot alterations. Let him foul out for all I care, but let the kid play. He's good.
-
Yeah that might be better. If we're going to have Horne at the 3, he's going to need more quickness defensively. He's a tweener right now, but I love his game. He just needs a little more conditioning, whatever that might mean for his body type.
-
I really hope that McVeigh and Gill can become "heat check" players--ones that we give a green light to when they are in, and pull them if they aren't having a good shooting night. Roby >> McVeigh if McVeigh can't shoot. Turner >> Gill if Gill can't shoot. Jordy occasionally >> Jacobson if Jacobson can't shoot or rebound. I love Horne's potential at the 3, but he needs to lose weight in order to guard someone. I think Tai, Glynn, and Morrow are clearly the ones who should continue to receive big minutes.
