I’d say different expectations at the time, and certainly a different AD. Trev likes Fred and wants him to succeed. I think Trev will see the growth and development of the culture of the program and will give him time to build on it. We can lament why it’s taken him to tear four to figure it out, I know I do at times, but like he says, this is indeed a team Husker fans can be proud of.

I think the biggest change to KT’s game was that he’s been allowed to show he’s not just a spot up 3 point shooter. His last layup this afternoon highlights that as a finisher, he’s quite capable. I’d rather have him driving than other guys. I know he wants that one shot I’m regulation back, the one he shorted right before he dropped the 3…

As far as I’m concerned, after what we did in Omaha, Coach Hoiberg bought himself quite a bit of grace. combine that with our style of play and not giving up and fighting and being more than competitive, let’s build on it. Just need one or two knock down shooters- to compliment what we have now. Losing Walker will be a big loss

Absolutely got jobbed by these refs. Tominaga - must play him over Wilcher - not saying start him, but Wilcher is such a non factor when he can’t his open threes -
Last year’s team gets boat raced by 35 in this game. This year’s team made a couple of decent runs that were triggered by a good defensive effort. Could tell TJD scouted Walker a lot. That being said, Walker still had some success on him. Those IU role players getting hot - sometimes it just happens. Let’s get Sam healthy and regroup for Saturday. I think we are going to have to accept the fact that KT will make some mistakes and I’ll advised shots, but is capable of scoring 7-10 points in a row, likes done multiple times this season. WB could’ve benefited from an injury free redshirt year. He is pretty raw. Dawson gives great effort but it’s hard for me to see him belong too much offensively. And where Lawrence is currently makes it all the more complexing that Ramel chose to redshirt. Let’s pack PBA saturday guys!

True. That was more of an emotional post by me. I hope he gains confidence and experience. -

Lawrence is……rough -
I actually applaud Shang Ping for his toughness. During a summer league game he and Joe Dabbert got into it and I was loving every moment. That’s also the game that Ricky Thenarse and Larry Asante challenged Chad Millard to a fight in the parking lot after Chad was jawing too much with Sek Henry. Aww, the good ole summer league days. The one time I got to see Robert Sallie fly in the air and hammer dunk Pierce Hibma…

Totally agree. I would 100% trust KT’s decision making (I’d say his basketball IQ is one of the highest on the team, at least of those who see the court) and combine that with he’s shooting 100% from the FT line this season. CJ made a terrible pass down on our end and then non chalantly dribbles in the paint and either loses it completely or flips it to a CU player. Both of those plays we thankfully overcame with CU’s play…

Ok. I can’t understate how much this game means to me. I live in Omaha and work with dozens of bluejay alums. I hear crap from them year round. They decorate my office with Bluejay stuff and troll me every chance they can get. All day I hear Kaluma’s a lottery pick, Nembhard is gonna drop 30 on you, got a text right before tipoff “42-7 at the first tv timeout” Back in 2014, I started a bet with the bluejay alums that the loser buys donuts. So, I did, every single year except 2018. I did not do the bet this year. Our company has grown so much this past year I’d be buying like 12 dozen donuts, and at close to 19$ a dozen, I didn’t really feel like it. Well, I’m buying red donuts tomorrow and bringing them in, courtesy of Fred Hoiberg and the guys who played their butts off. And I’m not taking the high road. I’ll be trolling them all week, no mercy. Bluejay fans are the most unlikeable fans I know.

Beat them in the NIT opening round in 2004, I was there and lost my voice screaming when Nate Johnson scored the winning drive and then Jake blocked Nate Funk’s final shot -
He actually said Derrick would share if he wanted to. Apparently he doesn’t want to…

I listened to Fred’s postgame presser. Quite a few questions related to KT. To sum it up, he said he was very happy to see his guys were very purposeful in finding him because they knew he had the hot hand. He said “that’s a true sign of a selfish team” and I almost could hear him thinking ‘unlike last year’ He did say Keisei has quite a few tricks in his bag and it’s not just 3’s, it’s the runners and floaters. Said the floater he hit that he bounced it off the top of the backboard - that’s when he knew he had it going…

Ok- first of all - during the first half we were tested and pushed by BC’s hot shooting. I thought it was going to be another close one, KT carried us in the first half. I think at one point he scored 11 straight or something like that. Awesome to see CJ find his shot. His confidence grew and that’s a very good thing. Many are going to say “it’s fun when we make them” but that’s simplifying it a bit. First, our defensive intensity and effort overall was very good. We hustle and give great effort. Those two tenants were not always guaranteed last year. To me, the ball movement and moving without the ball, putting strain on BC’s defense, is what made the night special. This is what I thought a Hoiberg offense could do. We passed so crisp and clean - Even Keita had some nice passes. I said it earlier this season. Gary, Bandoumel, and Dawson are Big Ten level athletes. Sam is a big ten sized guard. We have some interesting pieces. But tonight belonged to Keisei Tominaga. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 23 point effort with just one missed shot. That’s incredible. Unbelievable actually. His offense was much needed, but he had some great assists on cutting players. He even had a steal and caused a couple of other bad passes. Like the announcer said, he’s just a smart, heady basketball player. His energy is infectious and the joy that he plays in the game - loved his postgame interview too. This was a tough, tough day for Husker fans. This game helped me escape for a couple of hours. Finally fellas, Go Big Red!!!

I must say, Tominaga is on fire and playing with his usual high energy and enthusiasm. But his confidence seems to be on another level tonight. I supposed shooting 100% will give you that…. -

Dawson is a great energy guy but his offensive skill set isn’t very high currently. SG is getting blown by defensively, which could be an issue in league games -

There are times, albeit not many, that Tominaga is our best offensive weapon out there. -
Besides early first half turnovers, this was our best all around game of the year, by far. Balanced scoring and efficient on offense. Lots of points in the paint. SG hit some timely threes. Gary played aggressive and attacked the rim with a lot of effort. His dunks are powerful. Someone asked in a previous thread whose minutes Walker takes…tonight it was Keita. Walker is just so much more established and developed as a basketball player. This is something to build on. We can beat BC. They apparently lost to Maine and we beat Maine. I know that’s not how it works, but still… Oh, I need to point this out. All summer when people were saying Kesei was so limited and one dimensional and just a spot up shooter. Well…his ability to drive and make heady plays, 13 points with only one three and no free throws, his scoring 10+ points off the bench, that’s been a nice development.
