That's what a lot of these camps are. No defense and they'll take you as long as you can pay. They're to produce highlights and that's pretty much it.

2019 PG Markese Jacobs - DePaul
Jacob Padilla replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
DePaul. -
Michael Lewis deserves a mention in that sentence.
-
They weren't first rounders when they got there. And my mind automatically went to Shereef on the prep school comment because they actually did suggest that to him, rather than to Khyri Thomas who you were actually referring to. Khyri didn't really have a choice. Prep school was an academic thing for him, and the military lifestyle there made a huge impact on him and the player he eventually became. I've made this point elsewhere. Brady has made some very noticeable progress since he first got to campus, but I still believe this as well. Not sure he's going to get that chance though.
-
I'm not quite sure what your question is here but the reason is because that's what was best for both of them. Patton wasn't ready to play at all when he got to campus; that redshirt year made a huge difference for him. As for Shereef, he's young for his class and still has some physical development to go, plus it gives him separation from Marcus Zegarowski, the point guard they already had committed in the 2018 class.

It's always conditional and depends on the kid. Some are kids you take no matter what, some you slow-play depending on what else you have going on. Sometimes kids commit but you encourage them to look elsewhere later on (like Markese Jacobs and Kansas). It's certainly a balancing act. I'm not so sure that that's some change, though. Recruiting has always been a cut-throat business.

Their local kids both left early for the NBA.

Well, Nebraska's the only one who has offered him at this point so it's them by default. He's 15 years old. He still has a long way to go in his recruitment.
-
From what I've been told, it's one of these four and it's on the road. That's my last hint.
-
It's 6'8.25". It seemed like it might be a possibility just based on the other recent commits leading up to his official and nobody else jumping into the mix, but he never gave any sort of indication to anyone that he was planning on making his decision over the weekend. There really wasn't a reason to expect a commitment and therefore there isn't a whole lot of significance to it not happening. He's a different kind of player than Adams-Woods and Green, and it's not like Nebraska is in tight with a bunch of guys considering the number of their offers that have come off the board recently to other schools. I'd have a hard time believing Miles wouldn't accept a commitment from Arop at this point.
-
It's not Marquette either.
-
Part of that is because he hasn't been cleared to practice fully yet. That hip injury severely weakened one of his legs so they've been trying to build that strength back up. He has a good frame and a smooth stroke. I don't know if he'll be able to beat out any of the guys ahead of him for playing time this year, especially with how far behind he is right now. But I think he'll be a good player down the road. I touched on him and all the other newcomers in this section of my in-depth roster overview I rolled out this week at Hail Varsity. I will say I think Dedoch was a little hunched in that picture plus Cope's hair makes him look a little taller than he is, but Chan is definitely a little smaller than you'd like to see as your back-up 4/5 (he said he's working mostly at the 4 but has practiced a bit at the 5).

I can tell you right now that it isn't Kansas.

I stopped by the OSA/Creighton Prep Fall League in Council Bluffs this morning before the football game to check out some Nebrasketball targets. Here's a few highlights if anyone is interested. The last clip of Donovan Williams is him hitting a 3-pointer to tie the game plus a foul, and he hit the free throw which proved to be the game-winner. My favorite play I saw this morning was the up-and-under lefty scoop by Chucky Hepburn. Kid is ridiculous.

2019 SG Jervay Green (Juco) - LOI

He didn't specify, but considering he's doing two years at WNCC I'm guessing it was probably for academic reasons. -
2019 SG Jervay Green (Juco) - LOI
Jacob Padilla replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I talk to a fair number of coaches, and they don't all talk about their players the way Fehringer did about Green. My first question was "What kind of player is Nebraska getting?" and he honestly wasn't sure how to answer the question because he didn't know where to start. I'm sure there's a little hyperbole in what he said, but the enthusiasm he had for talking up Green isn't something you find every time you talk to a coach. Anyway, here's the story for those that are interested. -
You're right, I didn't have the timeline laid out for when Aguek decommitted, others committed and transfers left. Was just looking at final numbers.
-
Aguek was a 2017 recruit, so he would have been on the team last year. I don't consider putting Borchardt on scholarship "landing anyone else" with it. Nebraska only had 12 players on scholarship heading into last year even after the late addition of Thor. Copeland was on the team already before Aguek's scholarship would have kicked in. The reasoning for asking him to spend a year at prep school was that the coaches thought he needed another year of development, was it not?
-
Pius is solid but I think Bellevue West looks like the preseason No. 1 team. Omaha Central will push them as well, but they lost a couple kids to late transfers which hurts their depth. Millard North should have been good last year but went .500 for whatever reason. It looks like they have three D-I players now, but all three are perceived that way for their upside more than what they're capable of doing right now. it will be interesting to see how that team comes together.
-
Khyri didn't play in Nebraska in 2014-15 just like Shereef isn't going to play here in 2018-19. I wasn't referring to which recruiting class they ultimately ended up in but rather to their final year of playing high school basketball in Nebraska. As for Shereef vs. Akol, I like Akol a lot but I'll take Shereef. As for the prep school thing, I think the difference is that Creighton recruited Shereef with the understanding that he'd reclassify the whole time, considering his age and size among other factors. I personally still don't understand asking Aguek to reclassify (especially when they didn't end up landing anyone else with that scholarship) but then turning around and offering Akol. They have slightly different strengths, but I don't think Akol is dramatically ahead of where Aguek was at the same point. They're both moldable balls of crazily athletic clay that need some development but would play hard and compete on defense if nothing else early on.

2021 SG Hunter Sallis ->Gonzaga->Wake Forest
Jacob Padilla replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Offered as expected. -
2021 Millard North wing Hunter Sallis will be on campus this weekend. Expect him to get an offer.
-
He participated in Nebraska's elite camp earlier on Saturday. Chucky Hepburn was the only one at the camp who currently holds an offer, I believe.
-
He did cover the team when he was at Land of 10. We were actually sitting together on press row watching on his laptop as Kansas beat Texas in football a couple years ago. Good times.

2020 PG Ty Berry -> Northwestern
Jacob Padilla replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
No. Donovan played for MOKAN Elite, not KC Run GMC.
