I think that is a great approach. Be positive and support them in every way.
-
Well Kearney man if that's the case we won't have to read any more of your posts. But alas not true.

First of all let me say that I was always a big Connie Yori fan and supporter. I just feel the same as echoed by Sam Mckewon in an OWH article he wrote about Yori's leaving. If I remember correctly he said that in his opinion her progress had leveled off the past 2 years and was starting to trend downward. Maybe by adding Brit B. as a coach/ recruiting coordinator as well as the 5 new recruits she may have changed the trend. At this point we'll never know. What I do know is Coach Yori was paid 3/4 of a million dollars and was in total charge of the program. If there were issues with highly rated players leaving (2 last year and 2 this year) as well as the team chemistry then that falls on her. If we didn't have enough depth and had to play key players almost 40 minutes a game same thing. The head coach is in charge of the program and she made over 1/4 million more per year then our 3 time national championship volleyball coach. I supported Coach Yori and her players when she and they were here and I am supporting Coach Williams and her players going forward.

Heh HB I never said the program was in a downward spiral. I just stated the obvious fact that we were in the middle of the pack. That may be OK for some but not others. As for Theriot and Clark as our point guard and backup I think we we put too much faith in the fact that they would be totally healed from very serious injuries. When both were lost for the season we had no back ups.

Welcome to the forum HoopsNut. I agree totally with the buy in concept. We are obviously going through a transition, but that isn't all bad. The team performance in the Big Ten the past two years (10-8 and 9-9) speaks for itself. I will be interested in seeing what the positive effects of possible improved team chemistry can do over the next couple of years to move us up from the middle of the pack.

Excited to see which of our 12 players rise to the top as everybody gets a fresh start. Will probably have a couple who maybe didn't previously get much playing time take a big step up. Sure hope we can develop some depth with our 4 newbies and healthy returnees.

I'm with you 100 % Silverbacked1.

Now we will find out what kind of fans we have. I think good ones who will help cheer our hard working team on.

Iowa City is quite a bit closer to her home. In the past if we didn't consider Iowa the team we enjoyed to beat we sure will now. Excuse me while I go puke!

At one time it was thought that Alicia may apply for a medical redshirt to get another year of eligibility after her season ending injury. Does anybody know the status?

How about the novel approach of "Let's all get behind those players who want to be part of our program and spend less energy worrying about those who don't want to be". In the end Romeo wasn't forced out but decided there were more advantages to play else where.
-
I graduated from both Univ. of Nebr. and Univ. of Wash. Never could pull for the Huskies. Go Huskers.
-
In my estimation the previous summary of N. Romeo's departure as posted by dirkk was very well written and makes a lot of sense of the situation. Thanks for the post.
-
Good point by redsteve that the new coach will operate some what differently then we are used to under Yori. The idea of getting a fresh start for everyone usually has the effect of one or two players coming into their own that may have not previously. I'm excited to see who it may be.
-
I agree that if there was a chance to keep Romeo the new coach would have had more follow up. Obviously Romeo had issues with some of her teammates and that sort of situation can really wreck havoc with team chemistry. Doyle is still the key in my estimation. We are short on point guards.
-
If she can't coach at this level how did her team just win the WNIT. There were six Big Ten teams in that tournament. Included in that was the 12 point win over Minnesota in an away game. The same team that beat us by 37 points at their house.
-
I agree totally about having another Nebraska player that really wants to be here. Going forward I think having a scholarship or two open at this stage is OK. The new coach needs to first see how our young team all fits together and can be incorporated into her her desired style of play. I wonder if we will still be one of the 16 teams invited to the preseason WNIT.
-
How about we all support those that want to be here and say farewell to those who don't. Team chemistry (something we certainly didn't have last year) is a must for us to be successful. I'm sure that is high on coach William's priority list.
-
One point guard on a team is not near enough. If you want to play a pressure defense you need at least 10 players that can give some quality minutes. Yori lamented the past two years that she didn't have that depth to play that style which she preferred. Sam McKewon noted this in past articles. Not everybody can be a starter but everyone one the team can have a key role.

As far as scholarships available one hinges on whether A. Ostrander applied and received a medical hardship.
-
I heard a lot of similar grumbling when we hired Mike Riley. I liked him when he was first hired and and I like him even more now. I think Amy Williams was a good hire and will prove it over time. GBR
-
Yep. The past two have been interesting as well but from a negative standpoint with all the injuries and transfers. One thing about the future versus the past and that is we still have hope. GBR

We absolutely need Doyle. If she goes to Iowa I will be sick for a long time.
-
I could live with getting Doyle for four years!!! Even if she is the only one of the three.

Sorry HB about not understanding the smiley face meant it was a joke. I'm an old timer not fully trained in the electronic messaging genre.
