  1. I said Glynn Watson was a little better than expected only because I expected he'd be really, really good and he's even better than what I'd hoped. That's a good thing; a very good thing. These players that represent the future of Husker hoops show that we're in very good hands not just for down the road but in the immediate present as well.
  2. I voted that Andrew was a little better. Might even have gone a lot better. His career 3-pt accuracy from playing at KU was not the greatest and I had some worries that he wouldn't translate to prime time as one of the featured players. That fear has been put to rest. He's not quite as skilled with the ball as I had hoped, but he's a better rebounder and he gives us some beefiness on defense that we'd otherwise lack. So, in spite of the hype, I actually think Andrew is maybe even a bit better than advertised.
  3. For Ed, I voted that he's about what I expected. He hasn't put up a ton of points yet, and I am somewhat disappointed in his freethrow shooting, because I think he is better than his FT results so far. But he's playing out of position and doing yoeman's work on D1 posts. He's every bit as athletic as I hoped and has every bit the motor that I hoped he'd have. I knew he wasn't a scorer coming in based on stats and other things I'd seen/read. But I think he could be a huge offensive weapon IF: 1) he plays the power forward spot; and 2) he works on some post moves. With his quickness and athleticism and long arms, he has the ability to gain separation from defenders to get shots in the paint, provided he doesn't try to turn and face the basket every time he gets the ball. I think in time, he'll be more of a scorer. However, for right now, he's pretty much the player I hoped/expected he would be.
  4. Just curious. Vote based on what you honestly expected from these players before you saw them on the Spain trip. I'm curious as to whether what you've seen so far has lived up to the hype or been a disappointment to you. Too many times we've worried about over-hyping a particular recruit. And the general consensus has always seemed to be that players were over-hyped and most of the time failed to immediately live up to the expectations that were set based upon that hype. I know it's really early -- 7 games into the season -- but 7 games in, what are your impressions? So far so good? Or jury still out? Or ... are you harboring some disappoinment? Let's hear it.

  6. Bump. Any new thoughts, seven games in?
  7. FWIW, I think we beat Miami.
  8. If I had to guess on the explanation for the no call with Hammond, it looks like on the first replay that it wasn't clear whether contact was made. On the second replay, it was much more clear that there was actual contact. But if the officials only looked at the first replay, they would not have seen clear contact and might have decided it was a no call situation.
  9. This is basically what we used to complain about with Terran taking bad shots. Yes, he was our best player; and yes, we were winning games. But he was still taking bad shots and it was a lot of one on one stuff. I agree with you, Dean, this style that we're seeing from the huskers this year is so much more entertaining. The ball movement is so much better and sharing is so much better. The only problem I see is that sometimes we still don't take open shots and pass up opportunities instead. There are still a couple of guys who are not confident enough to launch an open three when they catch the ball in rhythm and are open enough to shoot.
  10. Has RPI Forecast reconsidered their prediction for Miami after this last few games?
  11. 2 more boards by Jake and he'll have his first career double-double.
  12. And Shields and White have 2 points combined. Eight-point halftime lead. 36 of our 40 points will be back next year.
  13. jake has been solid offensively, but tennessee's biggest guy is 6'7. So? Actually, they have a 6'9" freshman. And 8 and 8 against in the first half against a Power 5 conference team (#78 per Kenpom)? I'll take it.
  14. There was a stretch there where I was trying to type my post and about the time I hit the "post" button, Hammond would put up another stat. Had to edit it about three times as he kept getting more boards.
  15. Jake Hammond on pace for a double-double: 8 pts; 8 bds with 3 minutes left in the half.
  16. Tai has 17 tonight. Morrow playing like a freshmen. Hammond has 7 tonight. Parker I don't think should be out there.Tai can't shoot 3's - and he's giving up wide open looks that absolutely kill your flow and spacing. I can't find the stats, but he hit his first 2 3's tonight, plus got fouled shooting a 3.My points more to the fact that we were desperate for outside shooting towards the end, and he's giving up wide open looks off of great drive and kicks - and we didn't score when we needed to. Did he have a great game? Absolutely. But we've gotta get shooters out there. Just my opinion of course. I agree. Last year"s squad was worse but this is a regular complaint of mine. We get guys open looks where they can catch and shoot in rhythm and they just pass the ball. We need shooting guards who will shoot when they get open looks.
  17. Difference in the game: Cincy, 16-24 FTs; NU 10-11 FTs
  18. TimSmiles, when you get the chance, edit the topic title so that we keep the volume/edition stuff straight. That's been going on too many years here not to keep it going. Good job to Tai showing up tonight, especially when the refs had a little thing for Shavon tonight (boy, wasn't that frustrating to watch.) See the bench shortening tonight. That's probably what it's going to be going forward. Other than the remaining cupcakes, we're probabaly looking at 9 guys. Basically the same 9 we saw tonight. Nice effort especially with Shavon sitting with foul trouble most of the night. Hell of an effort against a ranked team. Encouraging watching that. And I totally agree with what the announcers said about the youthful Huskers growing up tonight.
