The implication I've seen from some corners of the Husker-hating social media universe has been that people just showed up to a Scotty McCreery concert that just happened to have a volleyball game as the opening act. And it makes me wonder does Scotty McCreery regularly draw nearly 100,000 fans to his concerts? Or was this maybe the largest group he'd ever played in front of? A musical act can play whatever venue they want to try to fill. Anything from the Stuart Theater to Pinewood Bowl all the way to PBA. Does Scotty McCreery routinely book stadiums for his concerts? Or does he typically book smaller venues? And if, perchance, it's the largest crowd he's ever drawn, don't you have to wonder if it was maybe the volleyball team that drew the fans?

Don't even try to argue with me. I mean, I guess you can try. But then find another university that could get 92,000 people to show up for a women's volleyball match. You can't. Find another university that consistently gets 15,000 people to show up for a 10-22 men's basketball team. You can't. Find another university that has the nation's longest sellout streak in football. Well, OK, there's obviously only one of those (and it's us) but still. "Oh, yeah, well, some big boosters buy up the unsold tickets every game to keep the streak alive. So there. Nanny nanny boo boo." Really? OK, so which university is in 2nd place and with how many consecutive sellout crowds? Oh, so you can find someone on Twitter or Nebraska Rivals board who said something crappy about our coaches or our players or the opposing team or their coaches. Sure. Great. Doesn't disprove my point. It's not like we have the ability to kick anyone out of the Husker fan club. And anyone can pretend to be a Husker fan online. Besides, they're probably jayskers, so it doesn't really count. And find another university where the fans who sit over the visiting team's tunnel traditionally have ALWAYS given a standing ovation to the visiting team leaving the field, win or lose. Can you find ANY of that anywhere else? Can you find ALL of that anywhere else? Didn't think so. Leave me now and go back to your snooty bar in Dundee with your "craft" IPA that, truth be told, you couldn't distinguish from Bud Light in a blind taste test, you only think you like it because someone told you you should. You know who you are. Bye. Go Big Red. We're clearly the best fan base on earth. Top five in the universe. I'm not wrong.

Let 'em. That's what's great about Keisei is they have to stick to him like glue and it opens up stuff for others. And the nice thing about our roster this year is that, from the looks of things, we have other players who can make them pay.

AC back on. House cool. I wasn't here; don't know what they did; bill was only $250. Sweet relief. -

My brother used to tell me how miserably hot and humid it used to get in Viet Nam. What a pussy. In fairness, I'm not dealing with leaches. Or getting shot at. And Agent Orange is kinda like whatever at this point. -

Sleeping in the basement when your AC is out works well in theory. I'm thinking about actually going in early to work tomorrow. And when I say "early" I mean "right now." They have AC. I'm not at the melting point of structural steel, but I'm at the place where it bends and falls on building #7. -

Was looking online for temporary solutions and found this gem. Cool the Room with Ice Pour a glass of water, dump ice cubes into it, and place your hand above the cup. The air feels cooler here, doesn’t it? You can supersize this cooling effect by putting a big block of ice on a baking sheet or in a casserole dish. The cooling effect from the ice helps keep the room more comfortable until your broken air conditioner is fixed. I feel so ... irresponsible ... for not having a big block of ice on hand for just such an occasion. I mean I must be the only one who failed to do this, right? -

Sorry, not trying to open up any "political door" on this forum, but does anyone else remember during the Democrat primary debates in 1992 when our very own Bob Kerrey got caught on a hot mic telling Bill Clinton an off-color joke about lesbians? I mean, that was funny, I don't care who you are. Not the joke, but the fact he got caught telling it to Bill Clinton of all people. C'mon, laugh. It's better than crying. -

Anyone have any suggestions on how to clean salmonella off a kitchen table? -
What "hole" are you trying to fill?

To make myself feel better, I just tried to fry an egg on the kitchen table and it only got a little white around the edges. See? It is NOT hot enough to fry an egg on my kitchen table. -

PS --- I totally forgot the Republican Presidential debate was tonight. I feel bad because I intended to DELIBERATELY miss it; instead, I just accidentally missed it. By the way, this is NOT a political post; this is a specifically and ardently Apolitical post. I'm so done with this nonsense. It's like the two political parties put Steve Pederson and Harvey Perlman in charge of deciding who our two presidential options would be. FFS, THIS is the best we can do, America? Don't answer that. PLEASE don't answer. It's like if they were going to put two new fast-food places into the student union and they COULD have had Five Guys and Raisin' Canes and instead went with Vic's Cornpopper and Dairy Queen. Sorry, Vic's. You deserve a better analogy than that. -
Wish I was kidding. Sleeping in the basement tonight. Unfortunately, COSTCO was already closed by the time I remembered they sell those little room air conditioner units. We cooked outside tonight to make sure not to heat the kitchen. Grilled ribeyes. Unfortunately, the grill ran out of propane mid-cook. (As if nothing else could go wrong.) Fortunately, nothing was overcooked and the steaks turned out a pretty decent mid-rare. But that's only because -- not to brag or anything, but -- I'm gifted. One of the dogs is pretty chill about it all; the other is like WTF it's hot in here. She begged to come inside and I opened the door. She trotted in real quick and then stopped, looked up at me with eyes that said, OK, what kinda sh!t you tryna pull here? On the bright side, if we HAD a bed bug problem, we just nipped it in the bud by superheating the inside of our house to something approximating the surface of the sun. Any AC guys out there? Is it just coincidence that the system didn't blow when it was just 85 and toasty? As opposed to 105 and post-apocalyptic? Just curious. Hopefully we can get one of yous guys out here tomorrow.

I think, objectively, we made some pretty good off-season moves. Ain't nothin you can do about the guys who exhaust eligibility. They're gone no matter what you might wish. But EVERYONE else who left was basically at the bottom end of the rotation and, basically, everyone you hoped would stay did. AND we added some much-needed pieces. But no roster is perfect. Most rosters have a hole at some position or another. Heck, the last time we made the dance, DAVID RIVERS (great kid, by the way) started at power forward for cripes sake. That was clearly our weakest link. Where's the hole in the roster this year? If you had to drag some former Husker off some prior team to complete this roster and make it whole (whole, hole; their, they're; I got this), which spot are you looking to improve? And, to make it interesting, let's say you can only choose a guy who's played within the last 15 years. From Doc Sadler to now, pick one player from a prior Husker roster to turn this year's squad into an NCAA tourney team. Go!

I felt the same way -- and honestly a bit jilted -- when Graham Spanier left for Penn State. That was before he went to prison, of course. -

tcp, Several years ago, you launched into me on here in a way that seemed to me to have been disproportionate and unwarranted. From what you've described above, though, you were almost certainly going through a very tough period in your life at the time. It seems highly likely you had no patience to spare. Of course, I couldn't have know that then. And you no doubt didn't know that, at that particular moment, I felt like I was getting attacked from multiple different directions nearly simultaneously. Death by a thousand cuts, as it were. So, I probably reacted differently to you than I otherwise might have. When you lashed out at me, I probably internalized it too much. I reached out; you didn't reply. So, I put you on ignore for awhile. Maybe you knew that; maybe you didn't. It just occurs to me, when we interact with people, not just on here but in life in general, we see the person we're interacting with in a snapshot at a moment in time. That's OUR perspective. However, from the vantage point of the person in the frame of that snapshot, that moment falls within a much larger context of things going on in their lives. Things we may have no idea are going on. They may be dealing with trials and tribulations far greater than we realize. It's easy for us to judge. It's harder for us to understand. There are things that we don't know about the person we're indignantly launching at in the heat of the moment. And five, maybe six years later, we find out the things they were dealing with at the time we scrapped with them were much larger than we could have imagined. In addition to learning about your story of perseverance in the face of hardship, I hope I also develop the virtues of patience and tolerance. I'm aware I'm not the most tolerant and patient person on this board. I'm aware I tend to not "suffer fools gladly." But my definition of "fools" probably casts a broader net than it should most of the time. My skin may occasionally be too thin. My tolerance level too low. tcp, I regret seeing our difference more than our similarities over the last however many years. I sincerely wish you well. I hope you're around to see our first Husker NCAA tourney win. And, from the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry for what you're going through. May your burdens ease. May your days be filled with abundant joy in spite of the burdens you carry. May friendships sustain you. Be as well as your circumstances allow. Norm -
