Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board
royalfan replied to hhctony's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
What is really annoying to me is this tier nonsense. The selection people cant just look at the schedule and see who you beat and lost to? They need to lump it into the really arbitrary tiers? Why is 25th a cutoff point other than it is a nice round number? How about 50? Is there something significant to that? Yes, it is a round number. These tiers just simply dumb people down. I cannot even believe they are really a thing. As if beating the 25 team is remotely the same as beating the 1 or 2 team. And the difference between beating 51 and 50 is not significant. Sure as hell not deserving of being recognized as being the same as beating 26 and 74(or wherever the hell the tier 3 cutoff is). The entire this is asinine and really annoys the hell out of me. That's all. Back to discussing how we are going to get screwed if we aren't perfect. -
how secure is alabama?

Norm is right on there. Although I don't personally think Illinois applies due to youth and seemingly continuing to buy in. -
The reason I feel we wanted Penn St is simply because we play them twice so double the impact of their performance on our resume versus Michigan St.

I am in this camp but do respect the though process of Cookie. I think he may be slightly overanalyzing this one though. Maryland beating a team like Purdue on the road give the selection folks a hell of a reason to put them in over us if it comes down to us for one of the last spots. Need to eliminate bubble teams IMO. Obviously, there are scenarios that can play out where it would be better if Maryland wins this game. But we have to go by what we know now to a large extent when determining who to root for today.

Miles is far from perfect. But to his and the staffs credit they have been coaching pretty well of late for the most part. Better than I would have guessed by a decent margin. They have really picked it up since very early in the season. I wish more of our players got better due to great coaching development. That, and a late game "it factor" that cannot really be taught, are the biggest concerns I have. Not sure we could do much better, without really spending a lot, or getting a fair bit lucky on a hire.

Ordered by time, how to watch, the line and who we want IMO. Penn State (108) at Michigan State (24) 5:30 BTN Michigan St -13.5 Want Penn St. since we play them twice and Michigan St. just once LSU (81) at Tennessee (14) 5:30 SECNetwork Tennessee -9 I think we want Tennessee to help eliminate LSU. Correct me if wrong Pitt (183) at Miami (FL) (17) 6 ESPN full court/watchespn/espn3 Miami -17 Want Pitt in case Miami collapses Louisville (20) at Virginia (1) -- 6 ESPN2 Virginia -10 Pry don't matter but Virginia better Houston (49) at Cincinnati (16) 6pm CBSSportsnetwork Cincinnati -9 We badly want Cincy here Providence (37) at Seton Hall (19) 6pm FS1 We want Seton Hall here as Providence closer to bubble West Virginia (29) at Iowa State (116) -- 6pm ESPNU LIkely doesn't matter much I suppose Iowa St slighly better? Florida State (35) at Wake Forest (127) -- 7pm ESPN full court/ESPN3/watchespn app Florida St -5 We need Wake Forest here Syracuse (34) at Georgia Tech (141) 7pm ESPN full court/ESPN3/watchespn app Pickem We need Georgia Tech here Maryland (60) at Purdue (8) 7:30 BTN Purdue -15 We need Purdue Mississippi State (70) at South Carolina (53) 7:30 S. Carolina -4 1/2 SECNetwork I am not sure which is best but seems like mayb Mississippi St. slightly? Virginia Tech (74) at Boston College (69) 8 pm ESPN Full Court, ESPN3 Watch espn app Va Tech -2.5 Need Boston College since we played them Missouri (46) at Alabama (27) 8pm ESPN2 Alabama -5 1/2 We want Alabama here UConn (82) at UCF (68) 8 pm CBSsportsnetwork UCF - 5 1/2 We want UCF since we played them Butler (32) at Marquette (47) 8 pm FS1 Marquette -2 I think we want butler to knock Marquette closer to us in RPI etc. Texas (38) at Texas Tech (18) 8 pm ESPNU TT -7 1/2 We Want Texas Tech here Arizona (13) at Washington State (164) -- 9 pm pac10 network Don't matter barring epic Arizona collapse.

Order of game time with line and who we need IMO. Rhode Island (9) at Umass (204) 5:30 RI -9 1/2 CBS Sports network Don't see much relevance here but I suppose Umass in case RI has epic collapse and misses dance w/o tourney win UNC (11) at Clemson (6) 6 pm UNC -2 ESPN Doesn't seem to matter but will root for UNC as Clemson probably the better chance of epic collapse Indiana (116) at Ohio State (22) 6pm ESPN2 I can slightly see arguments both ways. Outside shot of passing Ohio St. Seems unlikely enough, I have no problem just having them win to help legitimize league in peoples eyes and help wipe Indiana off the map Rutgers (193) at Illinois (165) 6pm BTN Illinois 6 1/2 Don't feel it matters much, but since road wins are important and we have one over Rutgers so maybe them? Florida (38) at Georgia (62) 6pm SECNetwork Florida -3 1/2 I think we want Florida(edit after Actuary straightened me out) TCU (24) at Oklahoma State (93) 6pm ESPNU TCU-1 We want Oklahoma St here Xavier (3) at St. John's (104) 7:30 CBS Sports Network Xavier -4 We want St. Johns to make that loss a bit less painful Minnesota (102) at Iowa (152) 8pm BTN Iowa -4 1/2 We want Minny to win here as we play them twice and Iowa only once so better for RPI etc Auburn (7) at Ole Miss (84) 8pm SEC network Auburn -5 I think Auburn nearly a lock so we want them to help eliminate Ole Miss Vanderbilt (123) at Kentucky (12) 8pm ESPN Kentucky -9 I think we want Vandy here on off chance Kentucky melts down but this one likely doesn't matter much Arkansas (21) at Texas A&M (36) 8pm ESPNU Texas AM -5 Best with Arkansas to keep AM reeling back towards us Baylor (91) at Oklahoma (10) 8 pm ESPN2 Oklahoma -5 1/2 We want OU here to help eliminate Baylor from the equation.

uneblinstu's postgame chatter: Vol: 10; ed: 25 - @ Wisconsin
royalfan replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
8 HUGE rebounds by Palmer. For us to operate with the small lineup he has got to be a man on the glass. He was in this one. We need him to keep hammering the boards hard, as he also can start his own fast break. -

Just because they have that sheet as a reference to lean on, doesn't mean they don't have other print outs etc that could easily include things like standings. -
For me it is similar to the Maryland game yesterday. Michigan is a team we are directly competing for a spot against right now. I want it to be very hard for them to be selected and us not be. Also think road wins are huge, and the better NW ends up, the better that road win looks.

Anyone get any more to provide on this front? I haven't seen much of them since we played them. This could be pretty key.

Reordered in time order with lines, how to watch and who to root for(in my opinion at least) Notre Dame (78) at Duke (4) 6pm Duke -14.5 ESPN Want Duke Northwestern (100) at Michigan (38) 6pm FS1 Michigan -7.5 Want Northwestern Nebraska (65) at Wisconsin (135) 8pm Wisconsin -4 BTN Want Nebraska Kansas (7) at Kansas State (56) 8pm Kansas -1.5 ESPN Want Kansas
-
Sharp bettors more likely. The market has been off by a couple points all year on Nebraska, so hopefully it is again.
-
this stuff is not fun discussion. Quite a buzzkill. As one that know the accuracy of Vegas in the long run, this hard line move Wisconsin direction is not fun either. up to 4-4.5.

Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board

I think the coaches need to have a conference led discussion about scheduling and what the best approach is for the league to have the highest ceiling and floor in the most important measuring systems. With the brilliance of the academics in this league etc. the league should not be getting outgamed in this key element. -

Things like Rutgers being 348 in KenPom non conference strength of schedule just cannot happen. It is pathetic and weighs the entire league down. -

Plus when you consider that the Big 10 has elite coaching the teams get better, the league gets better. Too much reliance on those early season games would be a big mistake and I agree the selection folks are somewhat unlikely to make it. The prestige of the league in general, will give some benefit of doubt when human nature is involved. No matter how you slice it, it would sure be nice if we won the Penn St and or Kansas game. Flip side, we are in deep trouble without buzzer beater win. -
Between 2.5 and 3 point dogs tomorrow. It is going to be a very tough game to win for sure. Some factors not in our favor.

this is nice to see. Happy the program has a pulse this quickly under Williams. I wondered if was ever going to work at the time of hire.

Computer rankings will go down with the Michagan St. loss for as as well though. We play them each once.

Iowa (11-11) vs. Nebraska (15-8) Game Thread
royalfan replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Yeah I know what sarcasm is. Poor use of it if that is what you were going for. Absolutely nothing to suggest he was trolling. I like new posters. Bullshit like this is what keeps them away. -
Would take or want a Maryland win? I root for one thing or the other.
-
The problem with this viewpoint IMO, is that if it come to be that we were to pass Michigan St. in the league, we are going to be in the dance anyway. As far as strictly making the tournament is concerned, I see very little to no logic behind a Maryland win being helpful in that endeavor.
