Shut Up Sipple! - Why Fred Should have at least 5 years
royalfan replied to NUdiehard's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Just a couple things to keep in mind from sort of a devil's advocate perspective an a general perspective . 1. The first year almost should not count towards his record. It was an unmitigated disaster he inherited and would have been an unmitigated disaster no matter who was coaching. The discouraging part for me is that the first bunch arguable played harder than any team since. 2. I am not sure Matt A. isn't ok here, but things need to change. If he is the only guy evaluating the talent and recruiting then obviously something needs changed. He seems to land guys, but we need him to be recruiting and landing guys that actually can play. If they are simply looking at stars for the most part, and just getting the best talent available, that can easily be a flawed approach. You don't end up with anyone wanting to do the dirty work, among other major problems. 3. I am not sure it will ever work for Fred here as you cannot play positionless basketball in this league. It is the exact wrong league for it. You end up giving up too many shots on defense that go against what the analytics suggest you want to give up. Fred likes his offensive analytics which I love, but at what expense? Giving up an even worse ratio at the other end? You cannot always have a choice to either give up easy ones at the rim or double and give up wide open threes. Those are the exact shots we want, but unfortunately the exact shots we give up way more of than we get. -

The success rate of anything good ever happening when Lat dribbles is off the charts low. -

Fools gold in a sense. We are playing harder but the scheme is still bad. -
I suppose it is possible if we find someone competent to organize the defense. It is so much easier to play hard on defense if everyone has a good understanding of what they are supposed to do. Adapting the defense every game to their strengths is not working.

Nebraska (6-15) vs Michigan (10-8) game thread

Can someone explain to me when Wilcher was at line to tie the game, why both Tominaga and Webster remained in the game over Trey and maybe even Mayen. Get some bigger better athletes in there to play D for the love of God. Patience is wearing thin with Hoiberg not understanding the little things that should be so obvious and simple. -

we don't handle adversity well. Verge tries to do too much, then Tre and Bryce also. The more heat the game has, the more we dribble. -

Good point, although I disagree a little with last part. This team needs so much that we need him to become a difference maker on that end too. -

This is an absurd take as far as this game is concerned. He is largely responsible for our spacing looking tremendous and having the lead. -
The fact Derrin Hansen is mentioned here as a possible replacement is a good indication that this is not good. There would have to be several thousand better candidates.

Not exactly a new concept in the covid era. They were remote for the NC st. game also which was a much bigger one than this. -
You might perceive it that way due to your complete ignorance. I did not give my opinion on a single thing that you babbled on about replying to my post. Typically if someone quotes someone they discuss the post. You went off on some idiotic tangent that I didn't even discuss. I simply made reference to the fact they both look worse for wear from when they were hired. You start spewing the differences between football and basketball. Completely unrelated to my post. Obviously reading comprehension is a problem for you. Do better.

We also should have been in the dance comfortably. Conference had a rough go in the non conference. With all the power rankings and computer stuff, you cannot make it up. It completely ignores that the Big 10 arguably has the best coaches in the land. I would argue quite comfortably. The teams in the league improved more than the average league. But it is an equal sum game in league play, so that improvement does not show in the computer stuff. We were victim of a lot of bad circumstances for sure that season. When don't we I guess?

Reading comprehension not a big strength of yours?

Best Nebraska Men's Basketball Coach This Century?
royalfan replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Miles in a landslide. -
You have never been too fond of Smith for some reason. He was a big part of the tourney team so I am a bit perplexed by that. To each his own.
-
Yikes. That would have been dangerous, especially when obvious(in hindsight) how important Smith was to that squad. Hard to imagine after that Wisconsin game that year we are where we are. Bummer he couldn't run with the momentum from that.
-
Me too, as I am guessing he wouldn't be lacking it.
-
So you would not have traded in Miles with a dumpster fire coming back so likely to get fired the next year anyway for Hoiberg if you thought you had a chance to land him? p.S. It is more like the 20th best 2 year stretch in Nebraska history. More games and especially more "buy" games can make your definition of winningest by simply adding up win counts kind of a faulty measure of success.
-
My vocabulary doesn't go deep enough. I do put about 17 or so of them on Miles. There was not any talent whatsoever left behind. But even then, it is hard to fathom or put into words. Hoiberg looks exhausted. It is a very similar story as Frost. Comes in good looking, energetic. Seems like it will work great. Neither guys systems worked well in Big 10 and both very uncomfortable figuring out what does work. Both look beaten down and defeated. Neither likely to have a very happy ending. Tough deal.

Not sure what you call 36-56 in the league since Smith left. I call it an unmitigated disaster. I can't help you padna if you think it is good.
