This Husker team has a mindset I haven't regularly seen. Oh, there have been years where the drive was there. Always a monkey wrench thrown into the season. Something seems different about these guys. Maybe it's just me thinking at age 61, I only have 30 or 40 more years to see this program win an NCAA Tourney game.

In my 50+ years of following this program, I've never been more anticipatory for a .500 Nebraska team playing a conference foe on an eleven game losing streak in late February. We're in unchartered waters. Let's kick some butt!

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I think this thread is as appropriate as any. The all-time leading scorer in Nebraska High School basketball passed away over the weekend. Bill Holliday was 81. He scored 2748 points over his high school career. I know there are people on this board who not only knew him, but possibly played for him at Aurora. I had the privilege of playing with him on a town team league for one year.

You have a point. Here's how I look at this: I know we have probably 20 games losing to Colorado at home in the first round of the Big 8 Tourney in 1981, to every one game where the fans are dancing on the court to New York New York just two years later. (I was dancing). This year has a different feel for me. I have a 1986-87 gut feeling. Once Hoppen went down, it took the team a few games to adjust. This team losing two players, when you look at the records, has adjusted better than the 86 team. I'll be the first to say Hoppen, at that time, was worth at least two players value to that team. That team, of course, was the first Nebraska team to reach the NCAA Tournament. I look for this team to go farther. It won't be easy. The B1G wants their blue bloods in the tourney, so we won't get calls home or away. Screw 'em. I have a feeling we have a Japanese Road Runner on our roster that'll beep beep their asses!

I do. I sit in my office listening to the game while the TV is on in the living room. The 3 second satellite delay works in my favor. I can catch any play I want to see by sticking my head out the door. Gotta move quick, though. A lot of times I'll do the same with football. I'm sure it's a generational thing. Growing up in the 60's and 70's, you only saw Husker football games on the tube 3 times plus the bowl game each season. Basketball, you'd get to see them only on Saturday afternoon Big 8 games. So maybe 4-5 times. I absolutely cherish Kent. He and Jake work really well together. Great chemistry!

Not sure if we ever won both. I knew we had OT games under Iba. 79-80 season we had 3; UAB, in their first D1 season, we won in 4 OTs. 12-22-79. Oklahoma State, we won the game 74-73. 1-23-80. Kansas State, we lost, 64-66. 1-26-80. I got lazy and did no more research.

There's an 8 man player in Ainsworth that just got an offer from Nick Saban. This is a tough venue to challenge the talent of smaller class athletes. My prayers are with you having a child in OPS.
