Mascot: Rams
Conference: A-10
Shirt color not to wear: blue/powder blue
When you think of Rhode Island, you think of Lamar Odom. While the current Laker helped the team to make the NCAA tourney in 1999, the school made his former high school coach, Jerry DeGregorio, the head coach after Jim Harrick bolted for Georgia in an attempt to convince Lamar to stay for another year. Instead the Lamar-less DeGregorio drove the program into the ground for the next 2 years until Rhode Island replaced him with noted rebuilder Jim Baron.
While Baron has not led the team back to the NCAA tournament, the Rams have enjoyed four 20 win seasons and four NIT appearances. While Rhode Island is playing in a typical up-tempo fashion and scoring 90 points a game, the young Rams are also 0-2 and basically rebuilding. Nebraska should be able to hold the Rams to one of their lowest point total of the year and probably dominate on the boards. If the Huskers continue to turnover the ball in an un-Sadler-like way, the Huskers might be in for a long day. Look for Juco-transfer Dylan Talley to contribute largely in the game given the Rams really won't make you play a lot of defense.
Prediction: Huskers 82 - Rams 70 with a 1% chance of Runzas
Opposing players to watch: Jamal Wilson
The 6-5 Senior started 8 games last year and averaged 5.1 ppg for the season. Given all the graduation from last years roster, Wilson has filled the void by putting up 38 on George Mason and 24 on Texas while averaging 20.5 shot attempts along with 1.5 assists. If you see the ball in Wilson's hands on offense, the next stop is somewhere towards the basket.
Opposing players to NOT watch: Transfers Billy Baron and Andre Malone
Rhode Island will have Baron and Malone on the roster starting in the 2nd semester of this year. Virginia transfer Baron projects to slot into the point guard position and 6-6 Auburn transfer Malone was a projected starter at Auburn who is known for his scoring ability. Roughly translated, this should be a better Rhode Island team in the second half of the season which makes them the sort of opponent you'd want to play in the first half for your RPI.

Other takes
-
While Nebraska isn't playing on air craft carriers, they're also not playing enough teams to qualify them for the SWAC championship this year
- The Huskers are going to run and gun the ball?!?!?!?
- Seems like the Daily Nebraskans also think the Huskers are going to score big on Sunday
- Rhode Island U preview of the game
- A Rams message board doesn't make much note of the Huskers. I think they're also waiting for those transfers
