AuroranHusker Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 Even if you gave them four foul shots...they will still foul, to speed up the game...one and one free throws will shorten the game. Do you mean they will still foul to lengthen the game when behind? Pretty sure if teams were given 4 FTAs at, say, the 15th foul of the half that the opponent would likely not be fouling their brains out unless there it was pure desperation w/ the shot clock off. That thought may actually speed up the game, but it's not too likely to ever happen. The 3-to-make-2 could be possibility, but again not too likely to be considered. When did the NBA quit doing that and the 2 for 1's on a shooting foul? Early 80's... Always interesting to discuss differing scenarios. Quote

Yes, if behind and time is against a team, they will foul...and I think that is one of the best parts of the game...the last two minutes...why would we ruin it, by changing the rules...to make it harder for teams to come back. Sometimes it ruins a great game to see a hack-fest in the final minute. A good example of a non-hack situation is Michigan nearly frittering away a 'sure' win against Tennessee even though it had very little to do w/ a free-throw shooting contest in the last minute. Michigan only got to the bonus on that very last attempt w/ 2 sec left. There's always two sides to a coin, and similarly, every "issue" seems to have a differing viewpoint. Quote
