Husker recruit Natalie Romeo has began her last quest as a high school player. She led her 4th ranked Carondelet High School to a 85-70 victory over Sacred Heart Cathedral last night in the first round of the California Federation State Girls Basketball Open Division Northern Regional.

Miss Natalie scored a game-high 28 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, as the No. 2 seed Cougars (28-3) advance to take on the No. 6 seed Miramonte on Tuesday. She also registered 7 steals, 3 rebounds and 5 assists.

"We were actually a little distracted by all the people," said Romeo, who also had seven steals and five assists. "We're not used to a big crowd like that. It took us a while to settle down. Our bench really came through."

Especially in the second quarter when seven Cougars scored during a 24-14 run to take control. That gave Carondelet a 39-30 lead.

Will any of the incoming freshmen be in Lincoln this summer to try and get up to speed on the college game ?

looks like she can go to the hoop with either hand but looks like she prefers the wrong which I like. has some of the same moves that Theriot has the little stutter look away and go to the hoop.

Kaylee Page isn't the only one of our incoming recruits receiving post season awards! Natalie Romeo is North Coast Section Senior of the Year. She beat out some good competition, Mikayla Cowling and Gabby Green who are going to California,  Mariya Moore who signed with Louisville and Natalie's high school teammate Makenzie Cast who's headed to Loyala Marymount.

Natalie Romeo is Prep2Prep's North Coast Section Senior of the Year, has spent the last four years at Carondelet carving up defenses with kick out passes, fakes, crisp 3-point shooting, and unrelenting hustle.

In 32 games this season, Romeo averaged 19.8 points, 7.8 assists, 5.6 steals, and 5.1 rebounds per game. She made two-point field goals at a 52 percent clip, converted 30 percent of her 183 3-point attempts, and finished with a 72 percent mark from the line.

But even in her first two years, Romeo was showing the talent and approach to the game that are the hallmarks of her game today. Right out of the gate, says Gartner, Romeo was a “fierce competitor and phenomenal passer. She saw the floor and played 100 miles per hour.”

Gartner adds that she hadn’t talked to the Nebraska coaches until after Natalie committed.

“I told them, ‘Whatever you think you’re getting, you’re going to get more. She does things the right way and makes everyone better.’”

Can't wait for this girl to get here!
