No. 15 Huskers Head to Utah to Face Second Pac-12 Opponent

The Nebraska women’s basketball team hits the road for the first time in 2013-14, when the Huskers travel to Salt Lake City to take on Utah on Friday night.

Tip-off between the Huskers (2-0) and the Utes (1-0) is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Huskers are coming off a 2-0 season-opening weekend at their new home in Pinnacle Bank Arena. NU opened with a win over then-USA Today No. 25 UCLA, before working its way to a win over Alabama.

Senior All-America forward Michelle Plouffe leads a talented Utah team that advanced to the WNIT Championship Game in 2013. The Utes, under the direction of fourth-year coach Anthony Levrets, ran to a 23-14 record last season, including a 5-1 mark in the WNIT. Utah battled to a 9-11 Pac-12 mark in 2013.

Utah leads the all-time series with Nebraska 2-0, with the last meeting coming in Honolulu, in 2007

Probable Starters:

Nebraska attracted almost 15,000 fans to Pinnacle Bank Arena in its season-opening weekend. The 14,674 fans over two games nearly matched the 15,221 fans who attended Nebraska’s eight home non-conference games in Coach Connie Yori’s first season in 2002-03.

Michelle Plouffe was an Olympic teammate of former Husker Chelsea Aubry for Canada in 2012.

Rachel Theriot comes away with B1G player of the week sewed up imo. Rach had a Lindsey Moore type game with 28 points, 7 points, 4 assists. 8 for 8 from the line and clutch free throws when it mattered. Again trying to take JHoop out of the game was the Utes game plan. Hoop still finished with a double double scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 boards. Emily got into foul trouble and sat much of the second half only fouling out when getting with around 3 minutes left in the game. She finished one rebound shy of a double/double grabbing 9 boards and having 13 points. Allie Havers to the rescue! The young freshman delivered with EC sitting on the bench!

Michelle Ploofe Utah's all every thing finished with a double double herself scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds. Big, big road win in a tough environment even though only 949 fans showed up. Good experience for every one that played.

Even though it was an ugly game (purely just from the sounds of it since I didn't watch or listen), this will bode well. I think it was a good chemistry builder with two starters getting into foul trouble, J Hoop being held somewhat in check (by our standards), the altitude factor, and by the sounds of it, not being able to stop Plouffe (sp), all while on the road. That's where team chemistry is really built IMO.  Showed some of the other players what it's going to take to win this year. Pleasantly surprised with Theriot scoring that much while having to run the point, good sign.

Being held is an understatement.

And Creighton got beat yesterday by Kansas in Kansas. When I turned the TV Creighton was down around 10 I  think North Carolina is freaky fast and have a guard that can lite up the 3. They did have a couple of injuries one where a player got poked in the eye and you would have thought she was dying the way she was carrying on out on the court and the other injury was an ankle. Both were top line players.
