Purdue Game Thread: As Sure As Dogs Can Fly

I think DJ Byrd is the guy in the 5 hour energy commercial. -
"Jack and Scott are holding on the line through the break waiting to ask questions. HHC Scott, is that you?" Not me. And I dint know jack ;-) Last time I called sports radio it was in MN and I was crying about the Laettner for Lang trade.

Michigan Game Thread: Don't turn on the lights.....

"I don't see an F on the report card tonight, there's no way we've earned an F in any aspect of the game." Miles' tie? -
Sorry guys I'm sticking with the D on defense. I agree that we played solid defense for a good part of the game but that part was not a half or a run. It was the first 30 seconds of each possession when Wisconsin was just moving the ball around, but I lost count of the number of times we gave away baskets with < 5 seconds on the shot clock. That's unacceptable.
-
If we had secured those rebounds it would have been an A since the Huskers would have won the rebounding battle despite the size/depth deficiencies.

New uniforms for the wisconsin game.

The fact they gave Tom Osborne one made me chuckle. Framed so that his unreadable name was visible. It's like framing a Penn State jersey or putting a sheet of blank paper in a frame. -
OFFENSE: F What offense? 36% shooting. A lack of free throw attempts (five, of which we missed two) Six poor shots by Dylan Talley (two charges, two threes that were way off, and two shots that just were out of any offensive rhythm) Missed layups and tips. Dribbling out the clock on our last possession. In this game a five-six point lead was insurmountable. One positive note was to see Gallegos take a drive to the basket. That shot has been open for him ever since the 20-pt games because EVERYONE's scouting report says overplay off the screen. Needs to happen more. The thing that is funny to me is the talk about the slow-down game, but we had 49 shots in this game and 56 against CMU, so it wasn't the pace of the game, but the difference between shooting 36% and 57%. DEFENSE: D B for the first 30 seconds of most possessions. F- for the last five. 15 fouls for Nebraska to 9 for Wisconsin but Wisconsin's FT shooting was 3 of 13 so our best defensive strategy was to foul the Badgers. Our biggest defensive disappointment was when Shields fouled Evans late, allowing the basket and his made FT. REBOUNDING: B Nebraska lost the rebounding battle 38-35, which is impressive considering the size and depth mismatches but eight offensive boards for the Badgers in a game where possessions were at a premium was a killer. Nice work by Shavon Shields on the boards matching Brandon Ubel's eight boards in seven fewer minutes. BALL HANDLING: C Eight turnovers to four assists isn't bad, but this might be the stat of the game, Wisconsin has eight assists and six turnovers. That's how slim the margin is in this game. Four more assists and two fewer turnovers and the Badgers win by six. Take out the turnovers coming from three charges (Talley 2 and Gallegos 1), replace them with smart passes to the man trailing or pull up jumpers/banks, and both these teams are 1-1 in conference. COACHING: C- What was the play for the last minute? Dribbling exhibitions make for a great halftime show. Not so much at the end of the game. We played close and had a number of chances to take control of the game, but there seems to be a lack of execution by our offense at decisive moments. Poor shot selection, lack of patience, lack of court awareness. No Almeida. No Vucetic. Minimal Rivers. I understand we don't have much depth, but playing just six deep we are shooting 35% over the last three games and we are just two games into the conference. If we are trying to contend for postseason play then Biggs should have been on the floor from game one. If we are trying to build for the future then Vucetic should play and Rivers should play more. Right now, all we are doing is burning out our seniors and wasting developmental time for our younger players. I didn't see anything that Rivers did that made him a liability on offense or defense this game even though some of the players who did get 30 minutes sure did have some lapses in judgment. OVERALL GRADE: D PLAYER OF THE GAME: RAY GALLEGOS 2012-2013 PLAYER OF THE GAME RESULTS: RAY GALLEGOS - 7 DYLAN TALLEY - 3 BRANDON UBEL - 3 DAVID RIVERS - 1 SHAVON SHIELDS - 1 This post has been promoted to an article

" AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE FRIGGIN MAN SKORTS THAT THEY WEAR IN BASKETBALL....DAMN YOU MICHAEL JORDAN!" Are those kid off your yard yet? ;-) I have to say I agree. Nebraska has a brand already and all the novelty uniforms just scream MERCHANDISING (in Mel Brooks' voice) No black unis. No one game only unis. Red white and let's leave the other guys black and blue. Go Big RED. -
Ohio State Game Thread: Hang on to your hopes, my friend....
hhcscott replied to cipsucks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
The unfortunate thing is, based on the way the first B1G game was officiated, Andre was not being penalized for his size like he has in the non-conference, the officials were letting them play, which would have opened up lot of opportunities for a physical post player. If Vucetic has to step in for Almeida, even partially, that physical style would actually be to his detriment. -

The first one I thought of was Steve Henson, but Henson was annoying offensively too. King of the floor burn. -

Aaron Craft is a difference maker even without scoring. I think Peltz could play that role with the Huskers but I don't think he would get the same leeway with the officials. I appreciate Craft's game and if he played for a team I didn't despise he'd be a player I enjoy watching, but please tell me how he is only called for 1 foul in 29 minutes of raking grabbing and slapping at the ball? Don't get me wrong. I thought the officiating last night was very good, especially the lack of ticky tack fouls, but if Craft can play that way without getting a couple of fouls called then the Huskers need to be playing a lot more aggressively on defense. -
I'm submitting this via phone so please excuse the brevity. OFFENSE: D I have to go with the D over the F because you can't blow that many layups without having worked really hard to get in position to blow those layups. The Huskers looked rushed and harried from the opening tip. Dylan Talley's lack of offense and Ubel's struggles in the first half meant we needed two players to step up. Gallegos did his part but the Shields/Rivers card was a bust and the Huskers folded. Almeida had some solid offense but rushed a few shots and never established himself as a threat.DEFENSE: C- Most of the game, the Huskers defense was solid but after falling behind early it needed to be suffocating. REBOUNDING: D Huskers were out rebounded 35-29 and were nearly even on offensive boards. Considering the hot UTEP shooting early there weren't many rebounds to get. Ubel and Almeida are much bigger and stronger than the slender Bohannon who finished with 11 boards while the Huskers were led by Talley's 8. The Huskers were slow to the ball and would get only one hand on the ball when two are needed. BALL HANDLING: B Ten turnovers not bad especially on the road. A lot of sure assists were missed by unsure shots. COACHING: C- Offense got shots. Huskers were close to the Miners in all statistical categories except made baskets. Miles used timeouts to try to stop the Miners. Huskers just could not make any shots early and could not cut the lead the rest of the way. OVERALL GRADE: D Woulda coulda shoulda game. Miners punched the Huskers early and the Huskers just did not have the offense to play better than even the rest of the way. PLAYER OF THE GAME: Ray Gallegos. Works harder than anyone to get open and makes shots when he gets a inch of space. 2012-2013 PLAYER OF THE GAME RESULTS: RAY GALLEGOS - 5 DYLAN TALLEY - 3 BRANDON UBEL - 2 DAVID RIVERS - 1 SHAVON SHIELDS - 1 Click here to view the article

The technical was on a blocking foul when Parker had position and was playing good defense. Miles said "he had position". No profanity. No histrionics. That ref was making poor calls all night. Only thing I can imagine is Miles said something earlier and the guy had one preloaded next time Miles spoke up. -
