  1. Optimism had nothing to do with my decision. Quite the opposite. Aside from our buyout obligations, creating a downward spiring coaching carousel at your university isn't quite the most attractive job opening to take. We're just over two years in a program (that isn't going well whatsoever), but I'd at least like to get to the point of "Okay, you've fully instituted your system and recruited your players. Now no more excuses." He's getting to that point, but 2 seasons isn't enough to right many ships. Nor is it great messaging to any future coach who has to look at this job as a historical desert, overrated expectations for its history, and you only have 2-3 seasons to turn it around.
  2. Also: TREV: We need to find a way to fill the stadium again. We could really use you. NORM: I'm busy, but maybe there's another way to do it? TREV: Is there? I'll do anything. NORM: Stop treating adults like kids and serve some beer at the games already. TREV: Well, but... NORM: ...and NyQuil.
  3. He is. In that all he does is shoot three-pointers. He may not make them... but nobody ever asked what it meant to be compared to Steph Curry (Actually wanted to verify my thoughts before sending... He's #1 on the team in 3pt attempts, #2 is more than 10+ attempts lower, 74% of his shots are 3PA, and he averages 7.9 pts a game.)
  4. Miles' first year: $1.4M Hoiberg's first year: $3.57M Let's go back to 2019 one more time just so we have some context from that time: This salary was higher than all but 10 coaches, nationwide, and only 2 coaches in the Big Ten had a higher salary Hoiberg was getting paid more than Archie Miller and Shaka Smart The Big Ten average was $2.7M Nebraska basketball and football combined coaching salaries was $8.57M The only coaches making more than Hoiberg at the time we're: Calipari, Krzyzewski, Izzo, Bennett, Self, Mack, Williams, Wright, Huggins, and Beilein The bigger the pay, the higher the expectations. It's one thing if Hoiberg was getting paid $800K. It's another to be paid (at the time) as the 11th highest paying coach and you're in Year 3 with an NET ranking of #219 out of 358. Meanwhile there's a guy making $700K at a school in San Jose sitting at #226 in the NET. At some point, you need to decide what kind of athletic department you want to run. Fortunately, Nebraska has a budget to work with. But at some point after many failures, we might not have that same luxury of trial by failure.
  5. Adding in the average number of conference opportunities during the entire tenure (Hoiberg will be at avg 19.67 after this year): Miles: 3 seasons to get to 21 conference wins (avg 18.2 opportunities per season) Sadler: 3 seasons to get to 21 conference wins (avg 16.3 opportunities per season) Collier: 4 seasons to get to 22 conference wins (avg 16 opportunities per season) Nee: 5 seasons to get to 27 conference wins (avg 14.6 opportunities per season) Iba: 3 seasons to get to 25 conference wins (avg 14 opportunities per season) Cipriano: 3 seasons to get to 22 conference wins (avg 14 opportunities per season) Bush: 5 seasons to get to 24 conference wins (avg 13.1 opportunities per season)
  6. Does the Courtyard have free food? @Silverbacked1 might apply.
  7. And it assumes everybody sticks around, which isn't the reality in college basketball.
  8. I can send you my resume if you need an assistant. Not real strong in the recruiting area, but that has been the case for a while now. I might do it just for the courtside seats! I'll take the former role of either Bobby Lutz or Marc Boehm. Sounds like a comfy job with big pay.
  9. M biggest concern with Moos, even while he was in charge, was exactly that. He was on a massive spending spree not only with coaches, but staff, facilities, etc. And I was worried we wouldn't get the ROI out of that spending. And now it seems like he treated Nebraska the same way he treated Washington State. Spend, spend, spend until there's no return and you run away to something else.
  10. Fred currently has 5 conference wins in about 2.25 (conference) seasons. With 15 more regular season conference games this season and 40 more coming up over the next two seasons, he needs to start winning 27.3% of all remaining conference games to get to 20 total conference wins. His first two seasons were 10% and 15.8%. Miles: 3 seasons to get to 21 conference wins Sadler: 3 seasons to get to 21 conference wins Collier: 4 seasons to get to 22 conference wins Nee: 5 seasons to get to 27 conference wins Iba: 3 seasons to get to 25 conference wins Cipriano: 3 seasons to get to 22 conference wins Bush: 5 seasons to get to 24 conference wins

  14. And it might go without saying, but those prior coaches had about 22 or so games to get those 7+ wins. This era, you have 30+ games.
  15. And yet he's breaking program records, both coaching and on the court, for how terrible of a program this is right now all while having the greatest talent in the Rivals era that we've ever had. Say what you will about where this program was when Fred took over it but it's very clear, at this specific moment in time, that it's worse than it's ever been in recorded history. The last time we had a 7-win season or worse was 1963-64 (Joe Cipriano's first season). Before that, Jerry Bush had 3 of them. That doesn't mean there's no hope for this coaching staff, but it certainly isn't started off in any sort of positive direction.
  16. Here's his old bio: https://redstormsports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/matt-abdelmassih/23
  17. It's saying something when you're like "we could've won that game had Iowa shot 58%."
  18. I can't wait to see Caitlin Clark again on January 16...
  19. Turnovers and steals seems to be the only reason we're in this game right now, with Iowa's shooting.
  20. Games like this, you need the hot shooting opponent to simmer down. Then you're right back in it. Let's hope that's happening right now.
  21. Iowa hasn't shot 60%+ this entire year. And even their 3P% is 60%+. Of course it would happen against us.
  22. Starting to see what shooting 68% looks like and how that can take over a game against good teams...
