Missing out on those football players didn't hurt as badly because our program was nationally relevant without them. Same me can't be said about our current basketball program.

I suppose that could be part of it. But I'm not sure that would explain his difficulty in making put-backs or most any other shot of close proximity while in traffic. And I'm not sure they would have wanted him putting on the kind of weight he did if they simply wanted him camping out at the three-point line. That muscle was for working in the lane.

Dude works hard, for sure. And I like him. He's just disappointed me this year. He hasn't progressed like I hoped he would have. He's giving very little on offense, and I haven't seen him as a good defender this year.

Jacobson might be my biggest disappointment so far. He's been terrible offensively (even when he's not shooting threes). He's not been a particularly good defender that I've seen (I have not watched every game). He's too slow to guard smaller guys, and too short to guard bigger guys (even with his added muscle). He did have a nice block in transition the other day, though. He does box out well, generally, which is good, and I don't know enough about his passing abilities to consider him excellent in this capacity (though I'm not sure there's a guy on our squad right now I'd grade to be excellent in passing the ball, but I'm also not sure what scale we'd be grading this on). I suppose he's a better passer than Ed, who rarely ever passes. If Jake's minutes were cut, I wouldn't complain. It saddens me that I see Jake in this manner. I had high hopes for him this year (obviously too high).
