If we’re being fair and honest, and looking at this from an outsiders perspective - did he/we almost get in? I know it felt like we were due to how things were when we were an inflated 12-2. But we finished with 17 wins, 1 more game than 2 years ago, where we definitely weren’t “almost in.” We didn’t make our own conference tournament. In a couple years it will be hard for me to consider this a team that “almost made the tourney.”

That doesn’t matter. You guys are all insinuating coaching/X’s and O’s just does not matter anymore. Spend the most money = winning. That’s what you’re all saying. Even by all your logic who are so obsessed with NIL/1890/Spending money - we should have, at the very minimum - been in the big 10 tourney. I doubt we’re bottom 3-4 in spending in the conference. Especially if you do any “cost of living” adjustments. I mean, if we are, then F me I guess. But I don’t think we are.

Does NIL money help first team all conference players make their free throws or stop them from late/over helping off 3pt shooters in over time with a lead? Or does it stop coaches from teaching doubling non threat posts and over rotating to non shooters to leave open shooters? Does it help put a 7’1” freak lob catch guy by the rim and not 25’ from the hoop trying to dribble?

Where It Went Wrong (Maybe) -- Some Stats

He, unfortunately, has "best player on a bad team" written all over him. Like if you said we're gonna create this thing around Berke - he could probably thrive but it'll be relatively inefficient and won't make anyone else better. What I have noticed as the biggest flaws in his game are that he just does not know how to "GO" and how to instantly take the angle he was given and maintain it with physicality to attempt to finish. He wants every drive and every move in the paint to be 100% clear/open. Almost like he wants everything to be a "trick/gotcha" to the defender so he ends up with an easy/uncontested shot. Instead dudes just stay in front, stayed on the floor, and he ended up pivoting around like an idiot into nothing. He's gotta develop a more decisive first step and learn how to, without hesitation, take what was given to him and handle the physicality that comes with it. -

Agree. If you are only getting a guy for a year you're are only - at best - getting what they have previously done. Often it is worse as they make the adjustment to the new team/conference. If you can get a guy for more than 1 year, that is the only way you will ever get "improvement" over their last contributions. -

I agree very strongly with these two points. Rollie might go down as one of the most disappointing Huskers we've ever had. I truly felt he was "the answer" to nearly everything I'd wanted in a Husker PG. Big, strong, versatile defensively. I thought he was going to get into the paint at will and cause smaller guards absolute fits. Getting to the free throw line frequently. Then hit a 3pt shot here and there. Instead he turned it over, could absolutely not finish at the rim, didn't shoot near enough free throws, and couldn't hit a 3 to save his life (was expected tho). The bigs were super disappointing. I felt Meah was used very incorrectly and that is on the coaches, 100%. Morgan needed to give us like 70% of what Mast gave us as far as role in the offense and instead we maybe got to about 49%. And then Berke just could not put it together. I do feel Berke was also used incorrectly by the coaches. You can't have him on the floor with Meah and Juwan at the same time (which he was often to start the year). To me, Berke is closer to Mast than anything else (a small ball 5). I still think Berke has the most potential out of all of them. -
Yes, depending on the match-up they could go deep. Problem is I've seen them matched-up with teams like Louisville in that first round - which would cause them fits.

Yep. With Mast, Berke, Connor, Gavin - you need to pair that with an athletic, aggressive, paint hunting dawg. Then you need to try to replace Gary with some kind of versatile, athletic, defensive presence. Last I think you need an athletic 3&D guy. 5. Mast 4. Berke 3. Versatile athlete, chaos coordinator 2. Athletic 3&D Guy 1. Paint hunting, aggressive/athletic point guard. Bring Sam, Connor, Gavin off the bench and hopefully another versatile big and shooter. Break out the check book this off season or break out the check book next off season to be buying out a fired coach.

I think with the transfer portal you have two options. Try to find freshman and sophomores who are looking for a fresh start/it didn't work out at their last place. You hope to hit on these but mostly you know you're going to have to continue to develop and find guys who fit the culture you are looking to build. -- or -- You gotta pay for straight up mercenaries. One year left, full-on dawgs, ready made to win right now. I don't think Fred has the option to go with the former. It's win next year or he's gone.

So, to clarify your thesis in words that make sense to me, in your words - College Basketball is not won by having a "Kobe Bryant/Michael Jordan," but won by having a "Derrick Rose/Russell Westbrook/Ja Morant?" I am not sure I agree with that or if the stats back that up (I honestly have zero idea, not saying I disagree either). But I would agree that Nebrasketball has long missed out on having a disruptive guard - 6'2" - 6'4" hyper aggressive ball handler who gets to the paint at will and creates for others or has a high foul rate. My only "argument" against you wouldn't really be an argument, but more saying that *insert "why not both?" meme* Zero reason outside of poor roster management, recruiting, and budgeting that we couldn't have both Brice and a disruptive ball handler. -
I’m sorry but we will need to absolutely flip this roster and pay major $$$ to compete next year. We lose 6 guaranteed, I can’t see GG staying, and I just have a guess based on history one of our redshirts will leave. I could also see guys like Bolis and Jacobsen leave (just seeing writing on the wall and wanting to actually play somewhere). We’re gonna have to bring in a minimum of 8 guys imo.

I’m not gonna lie - I have absolutely no idea what you’re saying here. Can you clarify? -

I feel like everyone generally understands the year after you make a change can sometimes be a step back. -

Nebraska men’s athletics, summarized in one tweet. Truly, truly do not know how anyone can support this staff at this point. One “good” season. -

Bye Fred -
I’m not saying it wasn’t a bad no call. But especially given his position that’s a tough angle. Almost wonder if it shoulda been another refs call. But it’s missing the whole point. We aren’t getting screwed. We suck because we have shit talent evaluators and terrible roster management. Combined with poor NIL/1890 support. Add in some coaching malpractice I’ve discussed, and this is what you get.

Good lord even I am not that much of a sadomasochist -
Has horrible body control. Needs an entire off-season dedicated to getting his legs under him, developing his core strength, and balance work. Plays too high, bad knee bend and hip flexibility. And as far as skills goes, he desperately needs to learn how to "violently go," and not try to finesse/sneak his way into everything.
