I almost think you need less "stars" and coach and develop players at a place like this until you can see some success. Then the talent will come based on success and what you have built. Then you can have more "stars" that dont leave after one year cause you've shown development and success. I think Doc tried that but never got enough players to sustain that success. Miles flopped after tourney year and then had too many losing seasons to show the trajectory was on the way up.

Freds job is more daunting based on history, but it is easier or should be to turn it around in bb based on #s. The $, resources, fan support, facilities, etc shouldnt make either one of those jobs that difficult. It comes down to coaching and finding the right person who understands that.

The sample size thus far says a lot from both coaches. Its still early for Fred but 19 wins in 3 years with only 6 power 5 wins isnt looking good. If this year ends bad as its trending, its hard to sell that somehow year 4 will change, like year 5 in fb, running it back. We want both to succeed but its insane to think it will change at least on the bb front unless improvement is obtained the rest of the year.

I mean he had one year where he caught lightning in a bottle and one year in a really bad conference and weak non con. Other than that 10th place or worse and losing records. We can agree to disagree I guess but i feel its false hope in 17-18. Its always hindsight and Tims personality was likeable. If im not mistaken they were only top 25 once in 14-15. Anyway, ive moved on.

I get it but in a sense it was fools gold. Outside of the # of wins that season felt empty as they didnt play a tough enough schedule and didnt win the games that mattered

Ive gone to 2 games this year and dont plan on going to anymore. Ive had season tickets for 10+ years. Doubt I will renew next year. Whats the motivation to drive from Omaha for this when i can watch at home. How will next year be better? Wilhelm, Keisei, Cj, Keon, Andre are the players that may be back. Id be shocked if either Mcgowens is back. Add 4 newcomers and thats 9 players plus 2 that are reshirting. Is that a team that looks like it can take the next step? Im sure some of the returning players are gone. So what is really going to improve in year 4?

The issue is if you run down and jack up a 3 without passing or getting into any type of offensen what is the motivation for playing offense. Players run down only to have to run right back the other way cause someone jacked a shot they could of got at anytime. Its almost as if other players stand around hoping they will touch the ball not wasting energy to get open cause they wont get a chance of having the ball passed to them. The quick contested or step back shots or driving in the lane possession killers need accountability.

I agree but that is a bare minimum. There is no reason this program should win less then 50% of their games every year. That should be an expectation unless some odd thing occurs. I get they havent but the $, resources, fan support should be able to obtain this. Is that so hard to ask for?

Never said that. They didnt work out well when he was here and no one thought this is where we'd be with FH. My point was keeping was pointless as he hit his ceiling and we deserve better.

Come on. Get over Miles. The dude had 7 years and had one good year that even he admitted he caught lightning in a bottle. He hit his ceiling. He was a salesman that the program needed at the time for the new arena and to draw attention. His coaches were a revolving door and so were his players before this whole xfer portal. I liked the guy but he didnt get it done. He sat out 2 years and is now coaching SJSU.

This offense is brutal. Dribble, dribble, dribble, set a pick, drive into traffic, stand around, 3 guys all next to each other, just brutal. Jack up a low percentage shot without passing. Im not a fan of the defense anymore either.. I feel the team scrambles to find the open man on rotations which leads to open 3's and spending a lot of energy. Wonder how this effects the offense. Fred has 6 power 5 wins in year 3 and 5 conference wins total. I see no way this will improve. No pg or dominant big man to get pts from in the big 10. I feel this offense isnt going to work in this conference. I think its similar to Ohio St in football. You have to have freak talent to run it. This is AAU ball with each player just trying to get theirs. The crowd on tv sounded defeated and dead almost the whole game and was even booing. Its safe to say the shine has worn off on PBA with no buzz and for some unknown reason no taps to drink from. Dark, dark place right now which is saying a lot. I have no confidence they will get a win on Weds.

Can she coach 3pt shooting and 3pt defense?
