I don't think Fred got a T after the 3 shooting foul (and soccer kick) before half because the ref knew it was a sketchy call in the moment. I've done that officiating/umpiring, thinking to myself, "Yeah, that might have been a bad call", and I let the coach have their word without much resistance from me. I know our "other friend" got KT with the T on the other side of the floor, which he earned.
