  1. Adia Barnes was named the Arizona Wildcats' head coach Monday
  2. pretty cool, emily-------pretty cool! congrats! some good news out there, finally. That is awesome. Can't think of a better diversion and get-away from the other stuff than this. Emily, I'm jealous; going to The Masters is #1 on my bucket list, and you got it done before you're out of college. ***************************** Couldn't happen to a nicer family. They come up to Lincoln to see every game. Wonder if the Texan can hold on and win another green jacket...
  3. Norm, you're right I am a cherry to Nebraska WBB. I can't name the four previous coaches. I can't name one. If there was a time in grade requirement I didn't know... You stated... "...you can't just expect them to walk away the next day and not have a lot of questions they'd like to see answered." Unless there is a court case I'm betting we will never really know the dirt behind the decision. Maybe it's better not to know. The old adage... Don't ask the question if you don't want to know the answer. Why damage a great university? Let's just say, for the sake of argument, the reason for the resignation is embarrassing to the university... Why let that info out? We don't want ESPN running a disparaging story about UNL. I'd argue, and I like to argue, that it's more beneficial to look forward. But if you're asking for answers... be careful what you ask for... you might get it.
  4. The larger problem, Schlautman said, was a lack of “player leadership” and an “unwillingness” to be coached. He described situations in which a player refused to run back downcourt on defense after made baskets, and another in which a player, after several prompts from the coaching staff, wouldn’t raise her hands on defense. Wonder who that was??? You'd be surprised who that is... I'll leave it at that... I'll just leave it at that.
  5. Yes, you don't get the highway just because your tough in practice. That can be fixed in a couple of meetings...unless the coach say's that's BS and I won't change anything..... and that's not Yori. There's indefinably more to the story, and we may never know the whole truth. My own thoughts...but Eickhorst (sp) may have more to with this that we can guess. He has taken a lot of heat over Riley's hiring. May be gun shy to make any more mistakes....before his boss gets changed pretty soon. My wife told me to stay out of this, but I can't... I understand the emotion I see in some of these postings. Coach Yori did great things for Nebraska’s WBB program. She put Nebraska WBB on the proverbial map. Her recruiting is stellar. That said... I recommend some folks step back and look at the situation from a more analytical point of view. I think Redsteve & Norm are “on course and on glide path.” i.e. Right on target... There is... "…more to the story, and we may never know the whole truth." One thing is certain… The coach who has the most wins in Nebraska WBB history and who has been in the saddle for 14 years isn't released due to a few players complaining about hard practices. I see no logic in arguing otherwise. I’d argue that anyone who seriously believes the current players' complaints were the catalyst for this action has no experience in leading any type of unit, team, or group. Every leader knows that a certain percentage of the troops/players will always complain… Regardless of what you do/don’t do. So players complaining about how hard practice would be greeted with a full cup of... shut the heck up. Next slide... The only facts we know: There was an investigation (We don’t know what initiated it). Players and staff were questioned. None of us know the results of the investigation. Assumptions: The investigation uncovered a problem. It was a serious problem; otherwise, you don't fire/release an extremely successful head coach. Only a very few people know the results of the investigation. As stated earlier, none of us know. My girl is on the team and she doesn’t know. During the investigation she was called in to answer questions. I’m not sure what was asked, but I know my girl. She answered honestly. She reported what she saw and experienced. She harbored no grudge against Coach Yori. I know she never felt abused during practice. She said that practice was hard but certainly never abusive. Connie Yori was always nice to me and my family. I have no bad words to say about her. On another note… Rachel sent me a screenshot of an extremely nasty tweet that someone (weather 69 or weatherman 69) sent to one of her teammates. That type of thing is beyond reprehensible. Fans can be such jerks. One day we might know the investigation’s results. Maybe the university will get pressured in to letting the public know what went down. Until then, this wound needs to begin healing. The “new coach” thread is probably where we should be concentrating. That is the 50 meter target that, it seems to me, needs to engaged quickly and decisively. Our worst nightmare is some of our girls leave due to this action. We need a quality coach who can assuage any player angst. Bottom Line: The Coach Yori era is over. Was it fair how it ended??? We don't know. We do know that life isn't fair. She did fantastic things for Nebraska WBB. We wish her Godspeed moving forward in her life. Moving Forward: Let’s get a great coach… We’ll need one… In just over 200 days we play UConn.
  6. Hello to Nicea Eliely's dad (Actualfacts1)... Welcome.
  7. I'm happy for her... I'm more happy for Husker BB... I wish all of MD & OSU would declare too. Money is way overrated. Ya think UConn wins tonight????
  8. NC State was 10-6 in ACC play. They tied Miami for 5/6 place. When healthy we beat them soundly.
  9. I was very wrong about Stewart's HS recruiting. Geno seems like the character Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket...hard but fair. Uber-hard. People respond to that leadership style when they see great results. He has a deep talent pool to choose from, but he's earned it through his hard work and success. It's about having standards and holding players accountable. Example: You have a test and a player either meets the established standard or doesn't. If she didnt, she doesn't practice. No exceptions. Players are like soldiers... they know if standards are compromised for some and not others. That hurts morale. My point: Geno probably sets the standard bar high. I'm betting that in his world when players drill/test they are either a go or a no-go. The player either meets Geno's standard or she doesn't. That way a player is competing against the standard not her teammate. I'm rambling...sorry.
  10. Regarding Geno: If I were a women's BB coach I'd pay at least $10K in order to talk to a UConn former player/players and/or an assistant coach. My intent would be to do everything I could to discover exactly how he conducts operations... how does he conduct practices, recruit, pre-game, post-game, weight training, motivate players, discipline players... As we all know, he has broken the code on how to win. I wonder what his percentage is with respect to (WRT) girls he targets and the ones who commit. Stewart is leaving but his 6'3", #33 (don't remember her name) was the #1 recruit (if I'm not mistaken) from last year. She came off the bench against us and was draining 3s and making a significant contribution. She's probably not Stewart, but she's no slouch. If I understand correctly, Stewart wasn't widely recruited in HS (maybe I'm wrong), and obviously Geno saw rough talent and made her into a star. That kind of recruiting conversation coupled with national championship rings makes it easy for Geno to get talent. But Geno earned that by executing his system. That's why I'd pay big money to get intell on how he does business.
  11. 43 had a non pre-existing foot ligament sprain
  12. So is it a knee cap issue dlffk? Yes, it's pain on both knee caps. The pain is concentrated in one spot on both knees. MRI shows no other problems. Check out Tenex.
  13. Regarding #43: The procedure will be in Lincoln by a doc associated with the University. We met the surgeon's colleague, a University doc/surgeon, after a game in January. He was very impressive and very optimistic about resolving Rachel's chronic patella tendonopathy. It's out-patient, and it's set for 29 March. We'll see how it goes.
  14. It will be interesting how things move forward. As you know, that was a very disappointing loss. They were 12/40 in 3s. They got hot and made some clutch 3s when they had to... Rachel was in a lot of pain. She said it was the most pain she ever played with (and she's played with pain for a long time). From my "homer" perspective she showed a lot of guts to play through that much pain. I saw her moving up and down the court pretty well. She's coming home for the break and will be getting worked on very soon. We're very optimistic about getting the knees pain free. We'll see. I'll let you know. Don't know why Washington didn't play. Rachel said Washington was the best post player in recent practices. Maybe there is something else going on. I was surprised at the lack of crowd. Somebody said a lot of things were going on...
  15. Understand #22 had a great game. Didn't understand why #43 sat out 19 minutes and 56 seconds of the second half. #43 could have gone in for a minute here and there in order to give #22 a rest and drink. Then, with 3.9 seconds remaining #43 is suddenly good enough to go in and set a screen. She wasn't hurt. She wanted to play. I guess she pissed off somebody. but... OK, got it... next slide. I do know the Huskers blew a 9 point lead in the 4th quarter. I know #43 plays aggressive defense, and nobody on that team plays harder defense. Granted, she's not much of a threat on the offensive end, so maybe that's why. I will admit that I don't know much about basketball, and I'm not a coach... However, as a fan I have several questions regarding a very young team in a big game and having two timeouts that are as puzzling, to me, as the Kennedy assassination. But I guess we're "Rounds complete, end of mission, out." Unfortunately, the target wasn't destroyed.
  16. As soon as the proceedure is finished I'll let you know the deal. She doesn't care... In her world, it is what it is...
  17. Sleeper is a good thing for the Huskers... She played with Rachel on an AAU team for a time. They also faced each other during a HS game. I talked to her dad during games... He's a great guy who played football for KU. His dad was the head coach for KU football. When I saw her play I'm pretty sure her dad said that (at the time... 2 summers ago) he didn't think she'd be able to play at a Power 5 Conference team. If I remember correctly, he said she wanted to be a Jayhawk. Bonnie probably ignored her. I don't know about the new guy in Lawrence. Obviously, she worked hard and it has paid off.
  18. Frustrating to watch my girl foul in such an undiciplined manner. It was Infuriating for me to watch her lack of discipline and intelligence. It is very much not like her. I expect much more from her. Physical mistakes are acceptable. Even a few mental errors are certainly acceptable, but to repeatedly not play intelligently sets me on fire. IN was 11 for 19 on 3 point shots (57%). That's a serious difference maker. I'm not basketball expert, but I watch the Huskers when they're down by 10 with 3 minutes remaining in the game and we're bringing the ball up the court and burning the clock as if it's the 2nd quarter. From an outsider... It seems dumb. The officiating was worse than I've seen in KS HS basketball. It was stunningly bad.
  19. Last time I was in Afghanistan I wrote a letter to Ms. Coale. I wasn't a fan of how she treated a then HS junior. I was extremely polite and respectful. I volunteered to come down to Norman and give her a class on leadership. She never responded to my letter or my offer. I was disheartened by her lack of a response.
  20. Like most parents would be... I'm a "homer" for my girl. The Big 10 announcers were talking about Rachel's injury and how she's fighting through the pain. During another part of the game the announcers say she's the Game's 6th Man... She's not a big fan of that role... https://www.flickr.com/photos/14052752@N04/24575075873/in/datetaken/
  21. https://www.flickr.com/photos/14052752@N04/24829910889/in/dateposted-public/ Please let me know if this link is inop. If it works... Take a look at this very short clip... Purdue's #24 cuts through the Huskers' on-court huddle. Rachel gives #24 a push and lets her know, with a few choice words, that cutting through the Huskers' huddle is unacceptable. She also got into it with Purdue's #13. Rachel tripped and almost fell. #13 found it funny and laughed out loud. Rachel said she gave #13 a nice hip check at the next opportunity. She was saying at dinner how she'd love to hear the other teams' locker rooms and what they say about her... "B" word and so forth... She imagines it's very disparaging. She's good with that. The other day she watched ESPN's 30 for 30... "I hate Christian Laettner" She plans to mirror Laettner. She knows she'll have to do much better at the offensive end of the court. With respect to (WRT) that... The players have off-hours access to the practice facility... Saturday night she was there and practiced shooting.
  22. Regarding the link... Let me see what I'm doing wrong.

  24. I agree with "HUD" If the NCAA tournament is a "no-go" (and it seems to be a no-go) then it seems logical to me that why not "plant your seed corn" now (i.e. let Ms. Simon start). That way you'd assess where she needs to improve over the summer. Simon scored 8 points and was 2-4 in 3 pointers (in 14 minutes). But that's why I'm here and not making $700K+. MN shot 55% (FGs) Huskers shot 36% (FGs). I haven't watched that much women's basketball, but I think last night... MN could have competed with UConn. MN was hitting nothing but net with our girls in their face. They would have at least given OSU and MD a run for their money. Did you see the MN coach's short interview at the half? She basically said that MN's strategy on defense was to guard Shepard & Romeo... that was it... She inferred... We (MN) don't fear anyone else on your team. I'd argue that her statement is telling. When the enemy doesn't fear you or only fears 40% of your force. It makes the enemy's job easy. I saw a stat last night saying MN played with 5 guards for 23 minutes. Is that true or did I misunderstand the graphic? If it is true, I'd say... What the heck! How can we not make them pay if they have 5 guards on the floor? Maybe I'm wrong. I thought we'd win that game (I'm a homer). I never thought we'd get embarrassed. My girl played 10 minutes. My wife and daughters were there. We could tell Rachel was pissed at taking that beat-down. If the team wasn't pissed, that would, in my opinion, be a big problem. I didn't see any quit in our girls. That's a great sign.
