Going to go watch Ja'Quan Newton, a Husker 2014 offer, tonight as well as some other studs

Getting off working in 2 hours to go watch some high school hoops. Theres a tournament here locally that brings in some great teams, some years better than others, and always fun to attend. Going to see ja'Quan Newton tonight of Neuman-Goretti out of Philly. He has a Husker offer as a 4* guard in the 2014 class. Should be some other good players to watch as well with Aaron Gordon the #6 2013 player in the country, Kris Jenkins a Villanova commit, and a few other 2014-2016 prospects to watch.

red sweatshirt with the block N, and a red hat with the block N. I always go for the extra $5 for front row seats as opposed to GA so I have leg room and also hope a player sees it. The best was 2 years ago when Dana Altman has just got the job at Oregon and he got seats 2 down from me. We had a good talk. Dana joked if I was only a few years younger he couldve used my size at Oregon.

I'll give a little on each of the players I saw that look like D-1 guys.

Gonzaga College Prep D.C.:

Kris Jenkins- signed Villanova: very fluid post player with a little bit of touch. Probably a step slower due to some "weight" that could be transformed. Definitely a round mound of rebound.

Bryant Crawford 2015 4* PG: flashy is how I'd describe him. No look passes, dikembe mutumbo stare downs on blocks, finger rolls and hard slams. Extremely cocky but for the most part every facet of his game backed it up. His defense especially for a young player was very good. Could shoot the 3 effectively but very slow release with a cock-eyed elbow. Would want though at NU.

Archbishop Mitty:

Aaron Gordon 2013 #6 5*: he is a poor mans Blake Griffin. Fluid, powerful post with amazing hops. He had very good hands and brought the ball up often. His team lost in overtime. I blame his coach for not starting him, wtf, and blame Aaron for not knowing what a free throw was. The other team did the hack a shaq method and he showed he was worse than Shaq and Dwight Howard combined on their worst night. He was 3 of 14 from the line. Some awesome talent there to be had though.

Neuman-Goretti:

Ja'Quan Newton 2014 4* Nebraska offer: He is a combo guard imo that tends to lean toward slasher. I left after 3 quarters because it was already 9:30 and had to get home so I missed his best scoring outburst apparently in the 4th. He was explosive with the ball though and had some great handles. Also showed a great prowess for rebounding. Reminded me of Jason Kidd earlier in his career with his style of play.

Lamarr Kimble 2015 guard: interesting prospect. Couldnt find anywhere saying if he was related to Bo Kimble but I know Bo is from Philly. He and JaQuan both basically swapped the role of pg, similar to what I think miles wants to have with combo guards. Had about 12 points I can remember and had a nice jumper.

West Linn:

Payton Pritchard 2016 pg: hes a local kid that was invited to tryout for Team USA. Only stands about 5'10'', maybe, but for a freshman against a good team in Neuman he seemed to hold his own going against Newton. I saw about 6 points but he was in on a lot of assists. Saw he ended with 10 and 8. For a freshman I thought he looked pretty good. I will have to continue watching him through the years to see where he ends up.

Awesome. Thanks for the writeups, Kam. It's cool for you that you live in an area where you can go watch this stuff.

I love it. Its all due to Nike though. Which surprises me that Adidas doesnt try more tournaments since they have their US headquarters here too. Nike though has the Les Schwab Invite for high schools, the Nike Hoops Summit with USA vs the world, and the Rose City Showcase for AAU. Sadly they took the Global Challenge from Portland to DC. That was the best one imo. High school gym, maybe 50 fans in the stands, and the top 30 high school players in the US split into 3 teams going against Cananda, China, France, etc. Some great hoops action to be had for 3 days. Thats the one Atewe played in this past summer for Team Canada so sadly I missed out on him.
