  1. We r adding Taylor back in too who essentially didn’t play last year. — we will add some kids still Be patient.
  2. Losing a kid to a hometown naia school simply means the kids wants to be around family and wants way less time spent with basketball. Will b a 60 percent reduction in hours spent per year with b-ball related team stuff. May well play Volleyball too. Losing a kid to an naia school says way more about the kid that left than the program they left.
  3. It’s a generational thing across the country. Nobody is immune. Wouldn’t be surprised if kids being home all spring with school cancelled doesn’t increase it everywhere when they get extended time at home
  4. Veerbeek is leaving too. Its on facebook. Heading back to her hometown NAIA school. -- Lets be careful judging her or Mershon. People who haven't played or been the parents of a BCS kid don't really appreciate the level of commitment, and both mental and phsycial toughness it takes. You don't get your weekends off and its basically an 11 month a year commitment. May is really the only down time. You get a max of 3 1/2 days at xmas and usually no thanksgiving. its not for everybody. Obviously flip side is an amazing journey for those who want the journey and buy in. Time to move on and find kids that want to be Huskers. GBR
  5. I said realistically projected as next years starters. We might lose one of them but I just said “I doubt it”. That might be different than this years starters. I am just speculating. - yes I agree kids leave for a variety of reasons even if they start — ie homesick is frequent cause for women’s bball
  6. We likely lose a couple kids, but who knows maybe it will help chemistry. I doubt we lose anybody that would have projected as a likely starter next year. It would be nice to get some good fortune from the transfer portal. GBR.
  7. If they cancel the NCAA tourney all the nay sayers can't hold "we didn't make the tourney" 2 years in a row against us because it will only be 1. Just saying.
  8. I don’t have any good leads for u bugs. Sorry
  9. No offense taken HB. I enjoy reading your opinions and those of others. I know 12dozen, actual facts, bugs, redsteve, HUD and others are all frustrated. I haven't said the criticism is grossly unfair or extreme. I do think any reasonable mind should agree year 1 should not be held against the current staff as they inherited a mess caused by lots of factors that they had nothing to do with. I think you have even previously agreed with me on that. I disagree that we were elite in 15-16 season before Theriot got hurt. The transfer we had that year had a harder time adjusting than people anticipated, and battled injuries; and our star freshman was 60 lbs overweight and scored 20 ppg but let it 28 ppg (I am making that number up i have no actual stat) plus she was causing friction with the players and coaches. Our highly ranked soph recruiting class had already seen Kaylee Page and Chandler Smith transfer, leaving just Romeo plus jas, Darrien and a walk on. Re: why we don't have a WNBA kid currently. Probably because there are only about 15-25 annually nationwide and they are darn hard to get. We had a good run and had several, but when you lose the momentum just slightly the current "hot programs" (oregan, oregan state etc) pick them up along with the old guard (uconn baylor etc). You also in the midwest have to get a little lucky and have a few grow up in your back yard and then keep them at home (ie - hooper and shepard) One worked out great for us, the other not so much through no fault of anybody at University of Nebraska. Look at K- states big run when Lehning, Wecker, Ohlde, Koehn etc all grew up in rural Kansas about the same time and went on to WNBA. Kstate was great those years. After that they have been good but not great. its been much leaner for them when rural kansas dried up a little. Traditionally girls don't go more than an adjoining state away to play college nearly as frequently as boys do. Obviously there are numerous exceptions, but per every 100 womens players compared to mens i guarantee you the distance where they play from home is much closer than on the mens side. Coach Yori is and was and awesome coach. I am a HUGE fan or her as a person and as a coach. I don't think she or her staff had BCS/power 5 head coaching experience when they arrived either. The current staff had zero to do with her departure. Any frustration with the transition should be always earmarked for the former AD. I agree we desperately need a PG. The staff has been in the final 2 or 3 schools on several high level ones the last couple of years but unfortunately they have gone else where I am sure the staff is more frustrated than anybody on this board. They have skin in the game and it effects their occupation and families. I agree with 12dozen that the staff represents NU with high class in all they do and stand for. I care about them and really want them to succeed.
  10. Romeo was a very goood player and shooter and nice kid. She was NOT a leader at all. She was quoted in the paper some because she scored a lot so they interviewed her — ironically this thread is using the team from romeos soph year as the model of what we want why complaining about this years team and yet the team from romeos soph year barely made the WNIT and lost to northern Iowa at home in the first round if I recall They had about the same record and results as the current team — the post mentioning how Kelsey hooper Moore could close out games at the end doesn’t factor in that all 3 were WNBA kids. We don’t have one currently. Harder to realistically except same outcome when kids put in that same situation are not WNBA talents. Rather they are Just good quality big 10 players trying their hardest. — cook is an amazing coach. But his program talent wise is the volleyball equivalent of UCONN. Our b-ball roster doesn’t have nearly the talent advantage to other bcs schools as our volleyball roster does — we can all agree we need to get better and do better. We aren’t that far off and I am sure nobody on this board wants it fixed as badly as the staff or players. —-we played in the ncaa tourney 23 months ago (2 seasons ago). Yeah it's looking like chances are not good this year and everybody wants back to the ncaas. . But it’s not like it has been a 5 year drought and it’s certaibly not like we have dipped below 500 or are getting thumped.
  11. A lot of womens coaches have historically not used all 15 because of chemistry issues. it is really hard to keep 15 girls happy. Remember every girl that plays at college was a star in hs and most of them were full grown by 9th grade so they have been "the star" their entire careers. Most were starters as 9th graders and all conf by soph year and all state by junior year. That is not the case for boys. They grow late and there are way more good players so they are used to jockeying for PT their entire bball career so they handle it better if they don't get to play right away. Girls, and their parents, do not handle it as well for the reason stated above in my opinion. This is compounded by the fact that men practice against men all the time so even the subs are getting lots of reps in practice. With women practicing against mens practice squads a lot of the time it is really much harder to get kids 10-15 reps which can further enhance the dissatisfaction.
  12. They also wear bracelets that monitor their sleep etx. And have special body suits they wear on the flight home to keep Lactic acid from building up at altitude to recover quicker HI tech suff
  13. Totally agree whoop that is a huge deal and I have noticed it too. Not playing after having a big hs career is not easy and she is handling it like a champion.
  14. What a great win. Tough Sr performances by Hannah and nicea with clutch 3 late
  15. What i think a lot of you guys are forgetting is that we have not had the same talent level the last few years that we had in the 2009-14 era. The super great teams have a potential wnba kid, and other potential overseas professionals. Our great teams had a Griffin, Hooper, or Moore, plus oversees level talent like theriot, Luadermill, cady etc. That pattern continued with Shepard being a wnba level kid but obviously that situation was unique and blew up. I have no interest in rehashing how or why that happened; but both the old and new staffs had a difficult time getting her to buy in so i don't think we can blame either one for it. However, we have not had any overseas professional level talent in the upper classes for several years either. Kate has a chance to be that level, and probably Nicea does physically also. But without a wnba level kid with them its hard to be a 23-25 regular season win team. What this staff has done with the talent level we have had has been a very good job. Making the ncaa tourney 2 years ago with that weak of a roster was incredible coaching actually. This years team is the best we have had in a while because we have several freshman and soph who have the potential to be overseas professionals, but we still don't have that great wnba type kid to go with them. We are more talented than we have been since the 2014-15 season and we are winning more because of it. We just had the hardest 2 game road swing of the year, and we didn't play great and lost. We need to play well the rest of the way and i think we will. Trust me the staff is recruiting their butts off and they are great. I see them in the gym everywhere watching high level kids. They are going overseas looking also. Yes they have had a couple near misses with good quality kids in the last 12 months, but i would rather them be in on top kids and miss sometimes than be chasing kids that aren't as talented. We have a nice team and a great staff. Enjoy it.
  16. Slightly off topic but saw destiny Pitts at Minn quit. Got disciplined for bad body language so quit. Hats off to Lindsey Whalen for trying to help a kid be better and not enabling bs. I am a die hard Husker but will always respect Whalen for doing the right thing on this regardless of the outcome. My guess is her program will benefit from it in medium to long term because the acceptable culture has been set.
  17. I got a chance to watch the ladies v minn in person yesterday. Was a great game. My thoughts: 1) it was very well officiated 2) we competed harder than we have all season 3) we have a chance to be really good if we always compete that hard and stay healthy 4) Leigha’s defense has improved a lot since last year 5) verbeek’s shot selection has improved a lot since last year and she worked hard to make herself way more atheltic 6) Sam likely will never be a pure shooter but her shot is better this year and makes her a perimeter threat which prevents teams from sagging which makes her more dangerous as a driver 7) Kate has probably lost 20-25 lbs since last year and is moving way better and can play more minutes without being exhausted. She was a beast yesterday. Cudos to her 8 ) we had a great crowd yesterday 9) trinity could be a huge piece for us in the coming years and could fill nicea and Cincore’s roll as our wing lock down defender but she needs to commit to getting herself in shape and losing some weight like Cain and verbeek have. She would be way more atheltic 15-20lbs lighter. But she has great natural feel for the game defensively and probably more offensive tools than jas and nicea did at the same age
  18. Silly comment Carl. Connie is a very good coach. Coach WIlliams is doing a good job building her program her way. Silly comments like that add nothing to the development of our program. We are 11-2. Sky isn’t falling
  19. It’s not a talent issue. It’s a toughness issue. Some kids need to hate losing more than they do. Means not being soft with the ball. Means getting key rebounds. Means not settling for mediocre shots or 3s when u can cut harder or post harder and get a better look. That said overall we r still very young. We are really close. I like our team
  20. This is certainly the most talented and versatile team coach WIlliams has had at Nebraska and if they play up to their ability should clearly be the best team she has had also. The 17-18 team wasn’t nearly as talented but had exceptional grit and toughness. If this team can harness some of that toughness they have a chance to finish top 4 in the league and make a round of 32 appearance in the NCAA tourney and possibly a sweet 16 run if they get a good draw. They have a lot of work to do but it is certainly possible if they continue to improve and stay healthy
  21. Yes she can redshirt She played few enough games that she definitely can
  22. Congrats to the players and coaches. Good win for the program.
  23. Creighton just knocked off no 23 West Virginia. Maybe they r better than I thought they were
