Should have been another foul with how Craft was hanging on Rivers with that last bucket. -

Could not have said that better myself. I like Ohio State better than Michigan, but good grief, with the scumbucket that Craft is acting like in the game, it makes it hard to root for that team. -

WBB: Game #30 vs Michigan State (B1G Tournament Semi-Finals)

Amazing performance so far! Especially considering how long Hooper was on the bench with foul trouble! -
Yeah, that was supposed to be a plus. Sorry bout that 49r.

And for the record... yes, I think we should expect to win this game. But then, I go into every game thinking we should expect to win it, and I think that's how the coaching staff and players approach every game.

Loved the article yesterday by Barfy regarding the comments from Monday's press conference. It's also pretty clear from his, Shatel's, and BR'S columns/stories that if anyone is taking moral victories from the B1G season, it isn't Miles, or even necessarily the players. I think their heads are all where they need to be, which is fighting and scrapping for the next game. I don't see Miles as a guy who gets really big into moral victories. Considering we've held many teams to much below average or season-low point totals, he certainly could be taking moral victories from many of the games. But I just don't see him as that type of guy. I don't think this team will ever stop fighting this season. I predicted 6 wins in conference before the season, and even now, I stand by that. This team gets one or two guys on a shooting roll, watch out. And that's basically what Izzo said in his comments as well.

NU 64 OSU 62 Big time defensive game for the Skers in the first half, hold off a flurry in the second half to get OSU as they miss a 3 at the buzzer. Or something like that. -
Two things: 1. I've never really been able to stand Lee's style or his writing. I think there are way too many times where he takes what I consider to be an old style approach to his writing, where once his opinion turns sour on someone, he hammers away at it. I also think he brings opinion into many pieces that are meant to be/should be reporting. Hands down, I've always felt he's the worst writer in the sports department at the World Herald. 2. That being said, the part I've enjoyed is actually seeing the hourly chat he does. Not because he doesn't carry much of the same bias into that, but his temperment seems to be better, and every once in a while there is actually a nugget there that you might not have seen elsewhere. Overall, I'll read the LJS before reading the OWH.

KenPom 2012-2013 KenPom Rankings Thread
HuskermavfanChuck replied to 49r's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is why I'm trying to figure out how KenPom ratings are such a big deal. You want a rating, go take a look at Warren Nolan's site. He has a pseudo-RPI which has teams in funky spots all over the place, which you'd expect. But he also does what he calls his Nolan Power Index, which to me seems to be pretty on track for a lot of teams. That rating has us just outside the top 100, which is about where I would expect us to be, with the wins and losses we've had. Jacksonville State is actually still a couple spots ahead of us in his ranking, which by the way the teams played the other night, wouldn't necessarily surprise me either. Creighton is at #6, probably a tid high, but they still only have the one loss. Oregon at 36 is probably about where I'd have expected them. You can take the rankings for what they're worth, just that Nolan's system seems to me to be a little more on par than most. warrennolan.com for those interested. Actually, we were a couple spots behind J St when I looked right after the game the other night (updated every 5-10 minutes, I think). It now shows them 1 spot behind, so a few things likely shifted regarding other teams to get those changes. -
He has three of the top recruits in the nation coming in next season, and just scored a top transfer. I think Cook will be fine. I think the new conference schedule and the much bigger grind that this conference seems to be on the team is something that the team and Cook are still getting adjusted to. I think he'll get a handle on exactly what he needs to do to get back to the final 4 and the national championship. Sometimes, it just takes a little of getting the bugs worked out.

B1G to consider another round of expansion?
HuskermavfanChuck replied to 49r's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If the rumors and analysis I've seen are to be believed (and the targets listed make sense, from the sense of being an AAU member (seemingly an important point for the conference leaders) and the eyeballs each target would bring), the list would likely focus on these five (and this isn't saying someone else couldn't come out of the blue, but these five make the most sense from that limited analysis and the rumors that have been circulating out there): 1. North Carolina or Virginia 2. North Carolina or Virigina 3. Duke 4. Georgia Tech 5. Kansas In that order to some degree. the big thing others have discussed, and I probably could see to some degree, though I don't really have any first-hand knowledge of the dealings of the ACC, is that the 'Tobacco Road Schools', i.e. the ones in Carolina - UNC, Duke, NCSU, and Wake, pretty much make up the backbone of the conference, and are the least likely to leave. IF that is the case, then it would seem the most likely targets are UVA and GA Tech. However, if for some reason UVA decided they didn't want to leave either, because they either weren't comfortable or believed a patched up ACC could be made to work, then GA Tech and Kansas would be the next alternatives. I think, from a standpoint of 'prestige' schools along with AAU membership and sheer eyeballs, all of these make sense. North Carolina or Duke for the eyeballs/TV numbers in North Carolina, Virginia for the same reason in Virgina, GA Tech for the Atlanta eyeballs, and Kansas to shore up the Eastern Kansas/Western Missouri corridor. All of these have also had at least some relative success in sports over time. as well. Regardless, the next six months to a year could be very interesting, especially after one conference makes another move, because I think when one moves, you'll likely have the B1G, SEC, and Big XII moving fairly quickly one after another, and the ACC will likely end up as Big East 2, and the Big East could easily end up as a non-football conference rather quickly. (Not saying it will even take six months, but I'd give it six months to a year at the most before we see the next moves made.) Certainly interesting stuff. And for the record, I like the moves. Maryland has been good/great in basketball, Rutgers is an up-and-comer, potentially, in football, and both were having a few monetary issues that they will at least owe some thanks to the B1G for helping them out of. That will likely go a long way down the road towards them wanting to give back to the conference. -

3 Things from tonight's game
HuskermavfanChuck replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I tend to think that a lot of people are making too much of him only scoring one point. Maybe this was what Miles asked of him for the night, to make sure his defense on their best player was rock solid, and not worry about scoring necessarily. Not saying that Miles told him NOT to score, but that his job/assignment tonight was to make sure his assignment didn't score. He'll get his nights and points this year, I have no doubt. But I think we blow it out of proportion too much when we make a big deal about one 1-point night for him. -
