In regards to the Stauskus quote about the hostile atmosphere, is it possible that we're under estimating how raucous other places are?  We're not Duke or KU or in the elite or anything, but is it possible that fans all over the country sit on their hands as much as they do here?  TV isn't always great at accurately portraying the atmosphere in the venue and often make it look a lot more hostile than it really is.  I know I've thought more than once after watching a replay of one of our games that it seemed more hostile on TV than it was in person and vice versa.  Because when it got loud last night, it was really, really loud. I'd love to see the fans (and I'll admit to being part of the problem, I'm not a big screamer during games...) be more active for more of the game, but is it possible that other places aren't as rowdy for every game than we think.

I'll take a stab at this, uneb.

Probably the reason why you get the impression that every other arena is raucous from tip to the final buzzer is because the games that are going to be on TV (and, additionally, appealing for the average viewer to watch) will be the higher profile games against teams competing for something.  Like a conference championship.

But in reality, a lot of times, crowds are disinterested and sit on their hands a lot.  If you watch practically any Missouri game you'll see a sparse and quiet crowd more often than not.  Pathetic if you ask me, with a top-25 program and a new(ish) arena to play in.

I think our crowds are pretty good to be honest.

That's kinda where I fall on this, too.

I think one of the problems is that the new arena has drawn a lot of new "season ticket holders" who aren't really "fans" of Nebraska basketball. Tjhey are more like "observers" at this point. The people who sit in front of me are family who have never been season ticket holders before and they basically just sit on their hands (or text on their phones) the whole game. And this even includes two teenage boys! In fact, everytime I or anyone in my group stands up to yell or cheer, they look back at us like we are complete dorks and snicker and "whisper" things to to one another like "geez, its only a game." I usually am impervious to these types of things, but after a while it wears on you b/c they actually make you feel like you are complete idiot for cheering and yelling during games.

We had 4 of them behind us last night. They were younger and were more interested in trying to impress each other where they had been at different games. That was the 2 boys, the girls, clueless. If they had been to all these other games you would think they would know to stand and cheer. Or just stand to see over my row.

There are four of our six in the front row of 322, that make reallllllly good doors but baddddddd windows. Two are 6'4" to 6'6" and weight around 210. the other two are 6' and weight in around 300+. So we are standing at the 6 min. mark and I hear kind of "I wish I could see the foul," in a snarky voice. So I told my boys and I to sit down because these people behind us can't see, in a snarky voice. They didn't get it.

So it not always the blue hairs that don't get it.

Also my row has said that we need to have something to start the second half. The crowd and team is just dead. There is no music, no highlights, ect... I think it would help,if they did something to help the "reluctant" fans more ready to help.
