Huskers End Non-Conference Campaign with Oral RobertsThe Nebraska women’s basketball team returns from celebrating the Christmas holiday with family and friends to close non-conference play against Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tip-off between the Huskers and the Golden Eagles is set for 2 p.m.

Nebraska is coming off a 87-53 thrashing of the South Dakota Coyotes where every player on the Husker roster got into the scoring column. Jordan Hooper lead the Huskers with 19 points followed by Tee Laudermill’s 15, Little Sadie Murren’s 11 and Emily Cady chipped in 10. Sadie also led the team in rebounds with 8.

The Huskers have somewhat hit a nice stride and have averaged just under 82 points a game the last three games while Oral Roberts has struggled offensively, averaging just 61 points per game through its first nine contests.

Nebraska will recognize former All-America point guard and current WNBA champion Lindsey Moore during the first half of Sunday’s game. Zeroes will be in Lincoln while on holiday break from her professional team in Italy.

Coach Misti Cussen brings her Golden Eagles to Nebraska with a 1-8 record. ORU, which won the Southland Conference and earned an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament, returned three starters from last year’s club but has dropped eight straight games against primarily major conference opponents including Northwestern, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Marquette.

Christian Key ranks 19th in the Southland Conference in scoring, with 12.0 points per game, while Sarah Shelton ranks 5th in the conference with 8.7 rebounds per game.

Nebraska leads the all-time series with Oral Roberts, 5-0. All five games have been played in Lincoln and all five have been decided by double digits.

Jordan Hooper needs 27 points to catch Kiera Hardy at No. 5 on the Nebraska career scoring list. Hardy scored 1,930 points. Hooper enters the game with 1,903 points. JHoop now has 930 rebounds in her career.

Hooper ranks No. 8 nationally among all active NCAA Division I players with 1,903 points. She ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten in scoring this season and is tied for No. 45 nationally.

Emily Cady is nearly averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds. She owns four double-doubles this season.

Rachel Theriot ranks No. 2 in the Big Ten in free throw percentage (.933) and No. 2 in assist-to-turnover ratio. She also ranks No. 4 overall in assists (5.6).

Over the last five games, Hallie Sample is averaging 9.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Nebraska ranks No. 8 nationally with 50,764 fans at home this season. The Huskers rank 12th nationally with an average home attendance of 5,640 per game.

Everyone needs to have their game on this afternoon as playing time minutes are going to be there today for them to show the  improvement they've made going into the conference season next Thursday. Control the boards, limit the turnovers, defend the three point line and show hustle and grit every play like Sadie Murren did last week.

Huskers win it 89-53 on Lindsey Moore Day! The rest of the league couldn't like what they saw out of the Huskers tonight. We looked and played like a top 10 team this afternoon especially the first half.

 

Don't be fooled by the score it could have been much, much worse. Up 62-25 at the half the Huskers tried a variety of different combinations the second half limiting the scoring quite a bit. Granted Oral Roberts isn't that good they ain't that bad either.

 

We had bets going if JHoop would have a double/double by halftime. She missed it by one rebound. Big game out of JHoop even with limited minutes. She finished officially with 30 points and 11 rebounds but actually she had 12 rebounds they forgot to give her credit for an offensive rebound the first half.

 

5 players in double figures in scoring led by JHoop's 30, Emily put in 15 and Tee, Rachel and little Sadie Murren each had 11. Still too many turnovers but most of them were by bench players. Allie Havers got into foul trouble and that hindered her play somewhat. Still she got some good minutes getting ready for B1G play. The Huskers hit 12 three pointers JHoop had 4 and Sadie put in 3 of them.

 

Huskers got out to 24-0 start and never looked back. Good crowd today as 5811 was the count.

 

Shame on the handful of fans that didn't stand up and give Lindsey Moore a standing ovation when she was introduced to the crowd. That girl has done more for this program than anyone can even imagine and to not stand up and give her her due is just bad!

Kudos to Hallie Sample, although she didn't score much today that kid did a fantastic job on the boards tonight and played a great defensive game. Allie's got to stay out of foul trouble we're going to need her come conference time, she's still making freshmen mistakes.

Right before we got out to the 24- 0 lead the first half it looked as if their coach just sat down and quit coaching and decided to watch the shellacking. This I thought would have been a great game for her to coach and teach especially her younger players.

With her 30 points this afternoon JHoop moved into 5th place on the career all time points scored list passing Kiera Hardy. She's got 1933 career points and well on her way to 2 grand.

Kudos to Hallie Sample, although she didn't score much today that kid did a fantastic job on the boards tonight and played a great defensive game. Allie's got to stay out of foul trouble we're going to need her come conference time, she's still making freshmen mistakes.

I was going to mention that it look like Sadie had a lot better rotation on her ball release and it looked like she has been working on her catch and shoot skills as well. The team just looked fresher today than they have for some time.

Yeah, I know I'm probably posting to much, but the way the Huskers performed the first half has got me a little over-anxious for the start of B1G play. Had we played that way in our two losses we might not have any losses.

Well I put the WSU game as a fluke not much you can do when they shoot lights out from behind the arch. And the NC game well that was just a melt down.
