Donkey Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 While I took this thread as simply an amusing topic, it is not uncommon for great athletes to do well in both sports. North Carolina had Julius Peppers playing on the hard court. Antonio Gates played on the Kent State Elite 8 squad. George Mason has 6'7" Jai Lewis at Center in 2006 who tried out for the NFL. Great athletes play sports. They may favor one sport over the other but that does not mean they cannot play anything else. Btw, Matt Davison wanted a basketball scholarship. Football was his second choice. Quote
HuskerFever Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 I can't tell if this thread is serious or not but ill add my two cents. This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I used to play basketball back in my school days so I should be added to the roster too. Depth would be nice...if the depth you're adding are basketball players that can contribute something positive for the team. I don't see the point of adding additional bodies that would just add empty numbers. I mean we already have Kurkowski and Vucetic who can't see the floor. If Tim had to he could just play one of these guys. These guys, although not really fit for B1G play, are actual real basketball players who train to play the sport of basketball. As for the football players "being 300# and in shape" they are in shape to play football. A few seconds of burst at a time. I have the feeling that despite everyone's opinion of Almeida's conditioning, that he would run circles around the 300lb football players running up and down the floor. I know there are a lot of breaks in basketball games as well, but it's still a completely different type of conditioning that is needed. Lastly, I hope I just spent the last 10 minutes of my life responding to a joke. I can't tell if this post is serious or not but ill add my two cents. This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Sorry, I had to Quote
bobcat402 Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 ik cwg started this as a non serious but wishful post and I gave my two cents about it, however ik a few posters have said how out of shape they’d be and couldn’t make three trips up the floor, and I will agree basketball shape is different than football shape, however let’s not act like these are not world caliber athletes, as a former collegiate lineman I can tell for 6-10 seconds it’s our job to push other 300lb lineman 4-5 feet off the line of scrimmage, than if we have completed that task we find a linebacker or cornerback 5 yards away. And with today’s fast paced offense its not 40 seconds of break its more like 10 -20 tops, now realistically if they joined the team they’d be a last resort and play maybe 10 minutes a game but that’s it, not starting and being contributors just last ditch effort helpers.
