Huskerpapa Posted February 12, 2015 Author Report Posted February 12, 2015 I have no clue if the "call" took place, but I can verify huskerbaseball's comment regarding Dan Berstein. There certainly is the probablity that some do not like him, but a majority do like and respect him. He has only has been the co-host of “Boers and Bernstein” since 1999. (If he is not respected and followed...why would he be a major market host for over 15 years?) He also has been named “Best Sports Talker” by Chicago Magazine, he is the city’s only three-category winner of the Achievement in Radio Award (Best Reporter, Best Play-by-Play and Best Talk Show). So one can doubt the validity of the story, but do not attack the messenger... This comes from a die-hard Cubs fan who has reason to know a little bit about the Chicago sports scene. Amen...plus a son who lived there for a few years... Quote
hhcmatt Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 It really only matters from an amusement standpoint over here whether or not it's true. There was an article about McBuckets in this Sunday's LJS. Stated he didn't play defense in college because they didn't want him fouling out. Between his injury and the fact that guys figured out they can back him into the paint for an easy bucket or foul is why he's not playing. I don't follow a lot of NBA but I believe that Thibodeau is defense oriented and isn't that keen on playing rookies. Sounds like he either needs to become competent at D, play for a team that cares more about offense than defense, or become enough of an offensive threat where a coach will figure out how to hide him like in college. Dimes, wasn't there also some speculation within the article that they are thinking of sending him down to the "D" league in order to get him playing time and so forth? Quote

If playing time is the answer that makes the most sense because he's not going to get it for a Bulls team that is winning and has guys in his position playing better than him. As much as a lot of us rag on one of the great Creighton players of all time he's a kid that turned himself from Harrison Barnes' teammate and future Missouri Valley player into one of the best college players that propelled Creighton into a better basketball league in the course of 4 years. To me, the sort of drive and passion that has gotten him this far probably also eventually makes him defensively sufficient to become a role or regular player in the NBA. He very well might not physically hold up over time or be quick enough/skilled enough to be anything more but it certainly won't be for lack of trying or confidence. Quote
