throwback Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 Somebody will know this - last time NU has beaten two Sweet 16 teams in the same season previously? Quote
throwback Posted March 24, 2014 Author Report Posted March 24, 2014 My parents always told me not to ask questions that I was too lazy to look up on my own. Looks like 1997 was the last time - beat Iowa St in OT in Ames and Texas at home. Not the year I would have guessed. We also lost in OT at Kansas that season. Came close in 2004 too, beat Kansas at home, lost tight games at Texas and at Okie Lite. -- Also NU is one of only 25 teams that has beaten at least 2 different Sweet 16 teams this season: 4 Arizona ** - Mich, Stan, S Diego St, UCLA 4 Wisconsin ** - Mich, Mich St, Fla, UVa 3 Baylor ** - Dayton, Ky, Ia St 3 Duke - Mich, UCLA, UVa 3 Michigan ** - Mich St, Wisc, Stan 3 Michigan St ** - Mich, Wisc. Ky 2 Arizona St - Stan, Ariz 2 California - Stan, Ariz 2 Cincinnati - UConn, L'ville 2 Florida ** - Ky, Tenn 2 Indiana - Mich, Wisc 2 Iowa St ** - Mich, Baylor 2 Kansas - Ia St, Baylor 2 Kentucky ** - L'ville, Tenn 2 Missouri - Tenn, UCLA 2 Nebraska - Mich St, Wisc 2 North Carolina - L'ville, Ky 2 Ohio St - Mich St, Wisc 2 Oklahoma - Ia St, Baylor 2 Oregon - UCLA, Ariz 2 Oregon St - Stan, UCLA 2 Stanford ** - UConn, UCLA 2 Texas - Ia St, Baylor 2 UCLA ** - Stan, Ariz 2 West Virginia - Ia St, Baylor ..... 1 Connecticut ** - Fla 1 Louisville ** - UConn 1 Tennessee ** - UVa 0 Dayton ** 0 San Diego St ** 0 Virginia ** ** - Sweet 16 qualifier AuroranHusker 1 Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 And only a 1-pt loss away from another versus the Wolverines... appreciate the research on the double Sweet 16 wins, I would have guessed 1998 as most of the other such streaks have been lately! Quote
hal9000 Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 For some further historical perspective, Baylor is the first Nebraska NCAA tournament opponent to advance on to the Sweet 16. Quote
