The Huskers' annual exhibition with UNK tips at 2:05 p.m. Nebraska-Kearney comes to Lincoln looking to rebound from an 8-19 campaign in 2011-12. The Lopers battled their way to an 8-14 record and a 12th-place finish in their final season in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) a year ago. Third-year coach Kevin Chaney leads UNK into its first season in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 2012-13. The Lopers will be Nebraska's second MIAA opponent of the exhibition season, following a 78-34 win over the preseason No. 2 team in the MIAA Pittsburg State. UNK brings a relatively inexperienced squad to the Devaney Center, as the Lopers return a trio of starters but just six letterwinners from last year's club. Nebraska-Kearney looks to replace five seniors off last year's roster, including their top two scorers, Shelby Zimmerman, (a 5-10 junior forward from Tri-County High School), is UNK's top returner. She averaged 6.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game a year ago. Zimmerman played 25 of UNK's 27 games with 21 starts in 2011-12. Nebraska will face Nebraska-Kearney for the 12th consecutive season in exhibition action when the two teams meet Sunday at the Devaney Center. The Huskers have won all 11 exhibition meetings. BirdsOnTheBat Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Split Squad game? From huskers.com Senior forward Meghin Williams did not play while nursing a foot injury, while five Huskers sat out the game because of a decision by Coach Connie Yori. "We hold our players to a high standard of accountability," Yori said. "We expect our players to live up to those standards. They did not play today, and as long as they live up to the standards that we have set for our team, we do not expect to have any issues moving forward." Quote
Bugeaters1 Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Ah so there is still fallout from WoodBerry getting kicked off the team Quote
Row6Seat10 Posted November 5, 2012 Author Report Posted November 5, 2012 It only took six Huskers to take care of UNK 68-38. It wasn't pretty but they came out on top in the end. Hooper put in 32 and Moore had 19. Major cudos to both freshmen Sadie Murren and Courtney Aitken. Each played 40 minutes and looked good for only their second game. Both their arse's were dragging come the end of the game though. Kearney is twice as good as they were last year but it still might be a long year for them. Theriot wasn't wearing her boot as she was last game, but she didn't get off the bench either. Would have liked to see her play and get some sort of experience before she gets thrown to the wolves next Friday. Quote
