Huskerpapa Posted May 5, 2023 Report Posted May 5, 2023 In my narrow little mind, we lost a good player in Wilhelm yesterday. He had a "unique" style that I respected, mostly because first and foremost, he seemed to respect a team first attitude that is sorely absent all too often in the game today. But hey, he is gone, we now move on. So this thread is not about him. Rather, the focus is on team play, and the intangibles that are sometimes seen, but oftentimes are missed; with the focus more on the visible measurables, such as points, rebounds and assists. Intangibles include stuff like attitude, effort and communication. Could also include leadership; on the floor, academically, in the locker room, in the weight room, on the sideline or even while attending non- basketball related functions. On the floor, it may include setting proper picks, boxing out your man, calling out picks, diving for loose balls, picking up teammates both physically and mentally. It means being an enforcer if necessary, or any other number of immeasurables. Not every player is going to be the star or superstar, no matter the level. You have to have the players that will do the dirty work that makes a team a team. Teams are littered with them throughout history. The best teams always have them. We wonder who are stars are going to be next season; but it is also important to know who are grinders will be as well. Perhaps Josiah? Perhaps Gary? Perhaps Hoiberg? We shall see. Digressing for a moment...I think we loss one as the door hits Briedenbach's ass on his way to the transfer portal. Five and Cazzie22 2 Quote
Handy Johnson Posted May 5, 2023 Report Posted May 5, 2023 I’m All About “Glue Guys” & “Lunch Pail Guys” but Wilhelm I think is better served playing where he isn’t so Athletically overmatched. He couldn’t shoot off the dribble, drive by defenders or score with his back to the basket. I’m sure he’ll find a School that better suits his needs, & he’ll always be a Husker. #GBR Five, kldm64, Cornbread21 and 2 others 5 Quote
